ITT:
Sydney fans (well one or two) moaning that having a grand final at ANZ is only fair.

IOT (in other threads):
Sydney fans moaning about having to play finals matches at ANZ.

People who say crowd figures don't matter are deluded:
1) More people equals more money so of course it matters to the AFL.
2) We all know club members get screwed with ticket allocation so that the AFL can look after their corporate sponsors. Who do you think the AFL looks after if less tickets are available for the match? The corporates or the club members? I look forward to a 20,000 crowd at Metricon with maybe 3000 club members in attendance (1,500 each).

Genuinely surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet.

It's not really that big of an advantage;

1991 - Hawthorn d West Coast
1992 - West Coast d Geelong
1994 - West Coast d Geelong
1996 - North d Sydney
1997 - Adelaide d St. Kilda
1998 - Adelaide d North
2001 - Brisbane d Essendon
2002 - Brisbane d Collingwood
2003 - Brisbane d Collingwood
2007 - Geelong d Port
2012 - Sydney d Hawthorn
2013 - Hawthorn d Freo

Victorians - 4 wins
Non-Victorian - 8 wins

Still the Victorian 'home ground advantage' but not played at the 'G so could arguably be excluded, swaying the results even more.

Only time I'd be ok with it is if two teams from the same state made the GF. Crows vs. Port or WCE vs. Freo final at AO/new Perth stadium would be better than if it was played at the G.

There is no such thing as a grand final home advantage. Whilst it is some teams home ground during the regular season for a grand final the ground is irrelevant. It's one on one contests between great teams. You could play it anywhere and no team would be advantaged.

So therefore lets play it at the home of football which is also the biggest and best stadium in Australia.

If Sydney or Perth want to host it then provide an option even half as decent as the MCG and there might be a conversation.

The point is wrong though. People wouldn't dream of suggesting that the Championship be moved from Wimbledon or the Masters be moved from Augusta. I see this as the same thing.
Your opinion doesn't disprove the point of the hypocrisy displayed of being outraged and ignoring arguments for one circumstance and then using the same arguments to excuse another.

I don't understand this sentence.

Best stadium in the world, in the world.

eeeerm, no

While I actually agree with GF being played at the MCG every year regardless who is playing in it and that the MCG is the best stadium in Australia, these sort of statements are actually laughable. Sure, it compares well with lots of other venues around the world, but the best? Not in my opinion, and I've been to quite a few in Europe that would be on a higher standard than the G. Just because those have smaller capacity, doesn't mean that they're inferior. The new Wembley, Bayern's Alianz Arena and Schalke's Arena are better stadiums than the MCG imo. I'm not even counting US stadiums as I've never been to one, but I'm sure there same kick-arse venues there.

And a farce for the fans. It's an embarrassing facility for something so many foreigners had to use .

Would be a farce full stop.

Sydney fans don't even like ANZ. Footy shouldn't be played there at all let alone the AFL's showpiece fixture.

At least all those big advertising boards would help SanDisk sell a lot of USB drives and floppy disks.

I don't understand what this sentence means.
For the third time: my point (and that the point of this thread) is that bigfooty has an obsession with a level playing field, except when it doesn't have any great benefit to their team. Some arguments which are being used in this thread to justify something which is unfair (the minor premier traveling to the home ground of the lower qualifier, who's played there three or four as many times this year) are ridiculed in other arguments about equality in the league. Your opinion on where the grand final is best played has no impact upon that, so you saying "your point is wrong", and listing sporting events is... I don't know.

Half the patrons at the GF now are MCC/AFL members. Really there is only about 40,000 seats on offer at the G now. Having it interstate wont change that figure.

Footy has to grow and evolve, the MCG will always be the spiritual home of footy but that doesn't mean the GF has to always be played there. I say sell it off to cities to host and bring the game to all the people. I

Easy to live in Victoria and say "leave it as is."

This thread isn't making it any harder either!

Any of Western Derby/Showdown/Q Clash/Sydney Derby would be cool in their respective citites, but as the teams aren't decided until a week prior it's impossible to suddenly organise the biggest game of the year for the first time at a that venue.
The lost revenue for the AFL would also be enormous, millions and millions of dollars.

Your problem is your inability to distinguish what's fair from what's practical. It's fair to move the GF to the home team's ground, but it's not practical. Nor is it a huge advantage, given how few tickets go to fans. Giving Sydney a war chest to poach players other clubs can't, is neither fair, nor does it have some good practical reason. You've had thirty years to stand on your own two feet - assistance at this point is unjustifiable.

Your dream as a kid is to win the grand final on the MCG in front of 100K.

It would be no different as a player.

Some things are never meant to change, and playing the GF anywhere but @ the G is one of them
