"West Coast has been looking for extra key defensive depth, considering delisted Hawthorn pair Denver Grainger-Barras and Ethan Phillips, as well as ex-Power backman Tom Clurey."

These guys still being considered or have we moved on?
Find out in the next couple of weeks.

See which ones turn up to training.

DGB is at least starting with Carlton

Hahahahahahaha. Just got wifi on my flight.

Was offered a contract by us and did negotiations but freo wanted too much in trade only to delist him with the promise of redrafting. He either wanted to stay at freo or go home so the club didn't bother. It was discussed as an option with our last live pick in the ND.

So freo are pissed, Knobel doesn't get to either place he wants and GC have picked up an absolute steal. GC were definitely short a true ruck on their list and Knobel could even play games next year. Whilst it's all rather amusing outside of him coming to WC this is probably the best spot for Knobel to be.

Also means Freo are locked in with their rucks next year and really can't afford to lose one which gives us much more bidding power money wise when it comes to Warner.
Then didnt get another ruck via draft or trade……

Unless it’s through a train on in the next few weeks.

Should have taken him as a rookie. Bizarre we didn’t with Champion listed at a Cat B rookie.

We had one vacant rookie list spot and we elected to use it to trial some potential SSPs.

Should happen more often. The rookie list has become an utter farce the way clubs use it these days.
The rookie list is so far from where it once was - you had to be young, undrafted and train without being available for selection unless there was a LTI you were replacing. Then you got to have one "nominated" rookie, then you could select anyone, then you could play them, then....

While I'm happy in retrospect we did it, Drew Petrie was not a rookie when he was on our playing list.

I remember when the AFL denied the Eagles request to allow Brad Smith to be placed on the rookie list on grounds of trying to give him a lifeline after his second ACL - but then only a year or so later allowed the Bombers to rookie Adam Ramanauskas, which was the first slippery slope move toward the current rookie list debacle.

We got an A+ by ESPN. However, they also gave Adelaide an A who only drafted 2 players so their ranking system is entirely trash.

I will get more interested when the media take a more holistic view of draft and trade.

I do not think the Tigers deserve an A let alone an A+ for their draft.

I think they cashed in brilliantly in their four trades and FA.

The three clear winners from the hand they had were us, Port and Saints.

Absolutely spot on. Don’t amalgamate the fantastic work yesterday with that appalling trade and say it all worked out. We could have had Murphy Reid as well, Clarke is very, very lucky the recruiters and team pulled that off.

If Essendon didn’t shit the bed so Shanahan goes early and Freo and Port don’t want the same player one pick behind us this conversation is very different.

Ah man let it go. We get it, all bad stuff is Clarke, all good stuff is someone else.
This draft period just keeps on giving.

The Violet Crumbles.

1. Miss out on Berry.
2. Consolation prize is M Reid for three years before he heads home.
3. Knobel gets stolen from underneath them.

Their daily dream is seeing Harley Reid leave. What are odds their own Reid leaves first?

Yeah, it's funny when they're given an A+ when they got all these top picks, like bravo, you drafted everyone you were expected to take, here's a medal for your courageous effort. Would've been like us getting an A+ last year for taking Harley

An invitation to train on is not a guarantee of a list spot. Would Knobel add more to the club than Burgiel?

Yes.
Can you have train on players if there's no spots left on your list?

Also would let's wait until we see the full train on list because Knobel is still a string bean with limited mobility so it's no certainty that he'd offer anything to the list beyond the nothing he'd offer next year.

I know you like Knobel, and I am with you on that, I sense he did not want to be an Eagle. If that was the case, I do not want him at the club.

A motivated Knobel is another matter. But if he was not going to give his all unless it was Cockburn or Victoria, then a good call. Phil had indicated this earlier and hence I've let it go. Just glad the Frockers got shafted back for what Feathers in His Cap has been calling to be done to him.
