Remember how important Vardy/ Lycett were to us in 2018. BBW is good as our 2nd ruck/forward but we need a bruiser at the top.Knobel is the skinny stick type so no thanks.We want/need muscle.

Gerreyn won't be undersized compared to Luke Jackson. (18 yrs old, 99kg, 199cm. Vs. 23 yrs old, 100kg, 200cm)
Our future playing styles need a mobile ruckman capable of moving around the ground and better still plays like another midfielder.
Edit: Actually Freo played better with Jackson as the sole ruck than Darcy in the ruck.

I like him too mate, suspect he goes well before our third pick and I wouldn't take him with our second. If he's still there late in the draft I'd take him for sure.

I don’t have anything to back this up at the moment but I thought it was up to 5 now for him. 3 this year, 2 in 2023.

Starcevich has been mentioned a number of times, but not sure whether just because he is from Perth

He's had two years in the system, he's still putting on size. He'll be ready in a year or two and I'm confident will be a good ruckman.

Fully agree with you on Knobel - a very good pick up as a DFA or rookie. He is not that skinny and from watching some Thunder games, his tank is looking OK.

I expected Flynn to be the big bruiser - let us hope we get to see it in 2025
 
Not rehashing the pick 3 split, but the offers for Harly were way unders

The only one I would have done is IF Norf had offered up 2 and 3 for 1 and 19.

McKercher is looking the goods. I expect we would have been fine taking the Melbourne offer of 6 (Curtin) and 11 (Tholstrop) and maybe 42 may have saved us a F3 for use this year

That said, I am still happy we have taken Harley.

Not that I would have done it, but Melbourne's fall from grace made their offer seem pretty tasty... 5, 6, 11 and 42 for an untried rookie is pretty good. If Harley were to leave, not sure we'd get better than three first round picks.

My point was no matter if you've got even 1 'wingman' on your list you still play someone on the wing. If you want to call trying Jamieson on a wing being creative geniuses you can or it could be that we really just had no one suitable to play in that role so plonked someone there.
Chesser sure. He's probably played it a bit in his career so far. Sucked most of the time but yeah we're trying aren't we.
Probably the last draftee I had high hopes for as a wingman was Foley. That didn't go well.

We add a Lindsay or TT this draft and a Davis or Moreas with our 2nd we have players to work with for the wing positions.

Does Kelly get pushed to a HFF or a wing? Certainly gets enough of the ball.

Also some likely wingers coming up in our NGA next year.

So 2017 was seen as a deep draft - Eagles traded with Suns for our F1 plus 50 for 21, 26, 37 and F2

This was perhaps in hindsight the most one sided trade, you wonder why the Suns are shy of trading with us since. The Future R1 we gave up ended as pick 18. Mind you Suns also gave up pick 2 for Weller so it was not the List Team's best year.

Looking at the draft, I have colour coded the green for nailed it, amber for so so and red for flops. I have gone to pick 40 which is on a par to what I see this year. In addition, players taken after 40 include as Ballard at 42, Worpel at 45, Farrell at 51, Miers at 57, Moore at 67, Meek at 69 and Xerri at 72.

It would be important to nail this draft with picks 12 (likely to be 14 or 15) and 26 (likely to be 30)

And yes, I still look at 2017 and think what if we had of gone ever so slightly different with Allen at 13, Kelly at 21, Taylor at 26, Ryan at 32 (or Moore if gone) and Worpel at 38

Interesting that they also include the F/S, Northern Academy and NGA prospects. Note the absence of an expected bid on Champion!!Mind you they also excluded Logan Smith (204cm ruck) from GWS academy who looks a R3 range and similar or R4 for Swans with Joel Cochran (195cm KPP)

My wish if for the Tigers to bid on Ashcroft at 1, Saints on Lombard at 7, then Kako at 8. Round it up with a bid by Sydney on Marshall at 19 or 22. That would see the Lions draining futures to match. A good move but damn hard to police it.

So we did draft some players. And we have played someone on the wing to develop as a winger.

Johnson looks like a likely type for the wing.

Maric as a point of difference Mason Wood type winger is worth pursuing IMO. Maric's foot skills in general play and kicking g inside 50 is elite.

Hall potentially plays wing or inside.

Burgiel and his injury issues is disappointing sure.

And since Gaff we haven't had nor used a top 5 pick on a winger.

And Chesser. Can't forget Chess. Thrown onto the defensive wing to become the next Masten whipping boy. Hopefully a new coach and game plan can get more development out of Chesser and free the kid up to play football instead of running g back and forth on the dead wing.

Wouldn't it be be good if we had an athlete who wins more 1 on 1s than loses, and put them on the dead wing on a point kickout and actually use them on a set play?

That table of draft picks doesn’t include any of the 2024 trades so is massively out of date

After the way their president carried on at the B&F, St Kilda will be the biggest hypocrites of all time if they don’t bid on at least one of Lombard or Kako. And it should be both
 
Is it too soon after the Baker trade to ask if we should think about splitting pick 12?

Feels like there are a lot of nice prospects across a spread of positions projected from the late-teens to early 30s in this draft. And a few clubs with multiple picks in this range (GWS: 15, 16 and 21. RIC: 18, 20, 23 and 24. SYD: 19 and 22.)

Rebounding defenders: H. Oliver/A. Clark
Key position defenders: L. Trainor/M. Whitlock
Athletic mids: C. Hynes/H. Boxshall
Forward/mids: T. Hotton/H. Davis
Ruck/Tall utility: K. Gerran

Would we rather say Allan and Davis at 12 and 26 or something like Oliver, M. Whitlock and Hynes across 20, 23 and 26?

The idea is fine, but…..,

Need to find a club wanting to move up the draft order and it seems that those clubs with multiple picks would rather keep 2 picks in the draft than 1 pick higher up

We had trouble splitting pick 3, hence the underwhelming 12 and 14 we got and North aren’t getting much of a bite for pick 2 it seems
