His last 3 games against us he’s kicked 12 goals win or lose. It’s probably why some feel as though he has played well against us.
I would say it's more so that he seems to look the one most capable of scoring.

He's a smart player who knows how to shake his opponent and skirt around undetected into dangerous forward positions out on his own. More than you can say for any of their other forwards.

He's weak as piss in a contest and built like an accountant but he plays to his strengths. Elite level forward craft. Reminds me of a bloke that played in our local team, never won a contested possession in his life let alone a contested mark, disliked by the team because he was a joe the goose softy, but somehow would win the league goal kicking every year. Some guys just have a knack of sneaking around loosely.

Great get LaV!
The quality of questions from Gerard and Gary goes up too. Brilliant.
Probably because the hosts no longer begin questions with, "Simmo, did... uhhh, (grumble grumble grumble), lemme try and... how should I say this... (suppressed belch), when you're a coach, do you... (sniffle sniffle sniffle) gawd is it hay fever season or what Gerard?"

Wasn't a poster on here convinced that Whateley hated Horse? He said that's why he was never on 360.

They must have patched things up.

Far from perfect , it's nothing to do with an Alistair mob mentality. Maybe he can't play because of testing
Would've been so happy to have him 2 years ago , but no way know
I know someone close to the club. It's drugs, alcohol, can't keep it in his pants. You name it.
Not focussed on footy.

I don’t know anything - but JUH’s recent actions suggest worse than troubled - they suggest douche.
JUH kicked fewer goals than Amartey last year yet he thought himself too good and laid a big turd in his kennel. I'd be wary of wasting money on a merely decent forward who still needs to be house trained.

Bad sorts are a destructive influence at a club. Buddy was a much greater talent but he showed genuine respect for his teammates and his former teammates. He trained his butt off to be able to keep playing so long and when he was injured he working to make himself, the club and our forwards better. His influence was almost as important as his goal-kicking. Our forward culture seems tight, team focused and unselfish but look how easily the Wicks incident knocked it out of kilter for a bit last year. Mutual trust and cohesion is paramount.

Peers can have as much influence on players as coaches in terms of everyday behaviour. I'd want a full psychiatric assessment done. If it strongly suggests he could be changed the most we should offer is minimum wage plus a per game payment. If the rescue dog wants us to bail out his stalled career at the kennels he should be prepared to prove himself first.

I argued back then that folks were underestimating our three young talls, particularly Amartey who had shown glimpses of a very talented forward and only lacked the consistency to play out full games. McDonald struggled towards the end of last year with confidence and niggles but he progressed despite the attention he suddenly had to deal with. He'll be an interesting watch. Doss showed he might do well in Reid's old role as a strong second tall forward, second ruck and contested marking option around the ground. Despite being his first game of the year he also showed an improved tank.

Throw in Ladhams and the goal scoring grunt from our smalls and rotating mids and I can't see any way we'd JUH would add more than his toxic attitude would take away. Then he'd probably want to be paid too (the gall!)

This article isn't strictly about the Swans but it's not only in the media it's about players' interactions with the media: https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl...instance=2025-03-29-14-02-AEDT&jobid=31329682. There is a Swans' reference to the possible impact of the 2022 GF loss on our performance in last year's GF loss.

The article isn't as insightful as I had hoped. Primarily it says:

  • players are aware of what's happening in the media
  • the narratives in the media have an impact
  • the influence of the media can be used to positive ends as well as having a negative influence but in either case should not be relied upon because it is not as real as reality (that's my parsing of the author - apologies if that's a bit off the money).

I did think this quote about the way media influence can put players on the defensive was critical:

Sports psychology calls it a “threat mindset” — your body shifts into fight-or-flight mode. In flight mode, players might step away from the contest, hesitate or avoid involvement so they don’t make a mistake. Ultimately, their impact on the game suffers.

Some talk about how many players the Swans will bring back. Can't agree we'll bring everyone back given we've some players who have played their role very well.

This article is so off the mark it’s comical.

Apparently Wicks’ role in defence is questionable.

Minus the goalkicking and you just described the entirety of my career!
