News Simonds Stadium stage 3 redevelopment - Players Stand, big screen and new lights

Very rare - I did attend such a match of 42,000 in the early 80's, wasn't really a great experience.

I reckon 40,000 that is about right. I'm one of those who would go to KP alot more if I was fairly certain I would get into the ground. Would like to see 10-11 matches there a year, including the likes of Essendon and Collingwood. Would be a fantastic atmosphere which Geelong is continually robbed of.

I don't see why teams like Gold Coast get all their matches at their own home ground where they are closer to the Gabba than KP is close to Docklands or the MCG.

Not only that, but it would give us a real chance to play a "genuine" home final should we come up against an interstate team!!

I am sure the AFL would rather fill a 40k stadium than play it at a 52k stadium which is half empty.
And you cant tell me they wouldn't draw bigger crowds at KP for a game like that!!

Geelong Freo was only 45k people last year!!

Looks interesting.

On the earlier discussion, I certainly think a capacity of 40,000 would be filled comfortably. I don't go down to the games in Geelong at the moment because it just seems hard to get a seat or at least one you want. If this was made easier by increased capacity, I would be along all the time. I think there are quite a few Geelong supporters in Melbourne who feel the same way.

The renderings look impressive and the idea of the members bar is a good one but will this be taking place of the social club or will this still be going?

Imagine the inability to move , 1952 is just a little too long ago for me Rabbi but before they built the Wade nee Hickey pretty sure they could get those sort of crowds.

Me too Turbo. I did not make an entrance for another 1/2 dozen years. But I can still remember some Jam packed games when the Wade/Hickey was a hill.

Re: Massive news coming out of the Cattery this morning. Stay tuned!

Crap, we would get 40k to a Geelong vs Bulldogs game down at skilled stadium (even with the bulldogs low member numbers) let alone when we play the likes of essendon, richmond, saints.

I think 40k or just over would be a perfect capacity to have for Geelong. It would also give us the right to finally host a home final, can you imagine what that would be like..................mmmmmmmmmmmmm......... licks lips.

I remember being at skilled in 07-08 and having 20k people in. How are we going to get double that? We generally play the interstate sides only here. Would love to play a final here, and would love to play Friday nights here, but the AFL runs like a business not a sporting competition.

I would expect that the old river end stand demolition should begin sometime shortly after the Grand Final. Does anyone have any news on when work will is due to commence?

Says in that Addy article , april 2013

And that seems more realistic then the June 2012 date.

I dropped in today and there are three Bernie Leen demolition portables ready. The Past Players rooms near the Lamby's tent/shed thingo look like they have been emptied of all the bar facilities and the path out the front of the Past Players is a bit torn up. Other than that there appears to be no real action.

But the surface of K'Park looks a picture.

Hi Rabbi (Name changed to protect the guilty),

Thank you for your email.

The Doug Wade Stand Redevelopment is due to commence sometime this month. We are currently just finalizing plans for the redevelopment.

The completion date still remains the same (March 2012).

Kind Regards,

Tyler

Personally, I find the completion date extremely hard to believe and think that a date 12 months later would be more realistic. It is really quite a large project.

I do not believe it will be ready in 4 months. Every other project has taken over 12 months and this one look bigger than the Premiership stand. I suspect it could be May 2013 before its really ready

Didn't Cook say a few times this year that we will have a bit of dip in attendances in 2012 due to redevelopment?

Also weren't people who have reserved seats in the Wade stand told that they could apply to get seats elsewhere this year or wait until next year (2013) to get seats in the redeveloped stand?

Makes the March 2012 completion date seem a bit weird also would be setting a record for a demo and construction of a stand

Thats what were doing , be watching 2012 KP games on TV , it will be a very different experience. Short term pain , long term gain...hopefully

The project completion date is April 2013. This information is linked in some of the other links.

That date makes more sense than the one Tyler from the GFC gave.
Possibly he made a typo and meant 2013.
