Tonight is the 2018 Hall of Fame Ceremony.

The AFL recognises players, coaches, umpires, administrators + media, who have made significant contributions to AFL at any level.

Players are eligible once they've been retired for at least three years, while candidates from other roles are eligible only after retirement.

How likely will Matthew Scarlett be to be inducted tonight?

The ceremony starts at 7.30pm EST + is broadcast live on Fox Footy.

I assumed he wasn't eligible yet. But he has been since 2016? So they choose to put Barry Hall, Simon Goodwin and Anthony Stevens all in ahead of him? 3 guys who wouldn't crack the top 100 players of the last 30 years over undoubtedly one of the top 3 full backs of all time. Good call afl. Surely he's in this year.

Well, yes, but there is an obvious time-since-retirement precedent there. I doubt it's on player quality.

Well deserved. Great player, innovative backmen. Hated losing. Was a real pleasure to watch for many years.

I remember when Carl made a massive play for him(according to his sis) and he said no-bluey magrath well done and well done to Scarlo as he has life long buddy’s with roots.

Very fitting induction to the HoF.

One of the absolute finest Geelong players ever to have graced the field; I feel fortunate to have seen him play. After years of fielding mediocre or stop-gap key defenders Matthew Scarlett reminded Geelong fans how tall a key defender could stand.
At his height and weight he had no business embarrassing key-forwards as absolutely as he did, and yet he did, often - appropriately cat-like when the ball hit the deck, the guy came from nowhere (reasonably speculative F/S pick, 45th overall - 6 games in his first two years at the club) to slowly establish himself as an hombre not to be underestimated. Once he found his confidence at AFL level, he produced the most compelling (and decorated) defensive body of work a defender could hope to produce.

One of my faves and surely in the top 5 Cats ever to play for the club.

Yep, can’t see how I will see a better defender in my lifetime. To have witnessed he and Boris in that backline through the same period was such a treat.

Thrilled for Scarlo, definitely the best Defender I've seen play, over many years lol

Had the pleasure of meeting him + what a character! He spent five minutes trying to convince me he was born in Bondi + no matter what I said, he'd counter it with rubbish, but he had me nearly peeing my pants.

If the team of the Century was named today would Scarlett replace Silvagni.

My Gut feel is yes, but I am biased.

I personally Think there were other Full Backs as good as Silvagni...Bob Murray..Peter Steward...David Dench..Roy West and even John Scarlett.. Malarkey However Silvagni was good and Matthew is as good as ...Rance may get rated by the modern as better than them all ..Pissing Contest really. Different eras etc. etc.
Will always be remembered for the toe poke and his cheap( but enjoyable wack) on Ballantyne. Great Player.
