Yes, you could argue that but given that the draft is itself of dubious legality and that the AFL reneged on the original entry conditions/concessions it had agreed to, I would say it was a fair move by Port.

That said, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have been done if the current regime were running the club back then - they would have just bent over and taken it in the arse.

It’s fascinating that Goodwin’s list gets upgraded and he gets downgraded because they actually did breakthrough and win that flag — despite not being able to win a solitary final since.

Whereas Hinkley’s list gets downgraded and he gets upgraded because he can’t breakthrough despite being in a commanding position to, on a handful of occasions.

Members would expect and demand performance and accountability. The way to get that performance is to have people with different and the right skillsets. Ten or twelve ex footballers wouldn't produce that and would not happen.
