Certified Legendary Thread Sack Hinkley 13 - Another Crack At This (Stepping down end of 2025)

this is what happens when a guy with no football experience as far as a player or in admin is making all the decisions in regards to the football department. Just think about it, a TV fan boy is there making the final decisions on everything football related at the club, he surrounds himself with yes men that never challenge him and you wonder why the coach looks at the guy and works out very quickly that he's easily manipulated when it comes to the crunch, falls for cliche and slogans and has no others option than to say, 'sign your contract extension here". Its pretty much why they signed Josh Carr because he literally has no idea what else to do.

Imagine if Ken actually manages to get to a granny, loses the granny and Carr takes the reigns in 2026.
What's your point here? That we should sack him GF week to have a shot? Its not going to happen.

This is pretty much a best case scenario given we dont have our own first rounder. Have the group get a bit of self belief, then **** off the muppet and actually have a chance next year.

My point is in context to the post I quoted. Hinkley finally makes a granny and he can't come back the next year would be a decent FU to him imo.

And this scenario while not in the realms of a good chance of happening, its not exactly a long shot here either All because we didn't have the balls to cull him at the end of 2024 (which imo should have been 2017) and once again went the easy option instead.

I did laugh at that press conference from Ken "We know we are in a performance based industry"

You are the longest serving coach in the the history of the game without a GF appearance and have three final wins in a decade. I don't think you are in a performance based industry, or maybe to be more accurate, a performance based club.

I never thought of the Houston trade as Ken's act of selflessness to build Port Adelaide's list.

This is total BS.

October 3, 2024:
“Let me have another crack at this because I ain't giving this away."
October 14,2024:
Collingwood has won the race for Dan Houston, with a mega trade involving three clubs and five players completed on Tuesday afternoon.

So you're telling me, in 11 days he went from begging for his job to then understanding he was in fact leaving the year after and sold the farm for the future*? Spare me.

*magic beans

Not hard to see how Jon Ralph got overlooked for the top job at the Herald Sun peddling absolute shit like this.

When it comes to list management and trades the senior coach is just one voice of many, and probably the less prominent voices of the committee behind the list and recruiting managers.

To spin it as if brave Kenny pulled rank and let Houston go to his own detriment but the betterment of the club is just disingenuous, bordering on offensive.

Not even this incarnation of Port Adelaide would be stupid enough to hand total control of their list to a coach who not only won’t be there next year, but has proven in the past to be thin-skinned, vindictive, stubborn and happy to throw the entire joint under the bus when it suits him.

Absolutely the kind of character who would go scorched earth policy on his way out the building to hurt the joint.

Koch is the real life version of Graham Kennedy’s president character from The Club.

When it comes to football matters, he is an uneducated man child.

He literally thinks stability is success, you can hear it in his voice when he speaks so proudly about the succession plan and how it makes Port a “good club”.

Conveniently forgetting that the great clubs have stability, because stability stems from sustained success and the fact it reinforces everything you’re doing across all levels of the club.

He is clueless.

It's the 2nd time he sacrificed short term performance for long term gain, so if we check the scoreboard, thats:

Sacrificing short term performance for long term gain: 2
Sacrificing long term gain for short term performance: 379

Some new assistant coaches must be coming. Carr would surely be getting this sorted.

Also just not having Ken around would be quite a change in the joint.

You can start to see where we are headed, we just have to ride it out.
I wanna see a complete clean out of our current coaching staff and carr bring in a quality senior assistant and other quality assistants. Head hunting them from other teams not just getting the dregs nobody else wants

Quite amazing Ralph has framed it that way.

Houston first approached Ken before anyone else about wanting to go home (said approach happened mid last year). And Ken, thinking he controls everything, essentially promised Houston that he would be traded at the end of the season.

If Ken had kept his mouth shut and simply referred Dan to the list management team to discuss, Port would have had far more bargaining power at the trade table.

Ken didn't open his mouth out of selflessness - he did it out of stupidity and ignorance.

How has this motherf-cker managed to avoid being dragged through the streets, honestly
