I also recall Ken was aggressively super defensive about the lack of preparation in the post game conference and then Koch and Davies had to beg him to admit to the supporters that he got the preparation wrong
Did he actually admit that publicly? I don't recall him doing it, was a few years back now though.

To think the Prelim humiliation and Russell Ebert game disgrace came within three (competitive) games of each other, yet the club and players seemed to bristle at the criticism as if it was unjustified and over the top. **** me.

Nothing against Josh Carr but I believe for the player mindset to change we needed a fresh voice to take the group forward. Personally I think it's to late for any coach to turn this group around without a clean out, which will take time, more time thanks to Hinkley.
Our depth is bog average as we will see when we start playing the better clubs, the Showdown is going to be an eye opener and I hope Koch is there to see the carnage.

There really isn’t any coach out there I’d look at apart from Kingsley. He’s now entrenched. My next would be Carr if he wasn’t already here. We’re in good hands.

Remember when West Coast gave us a hiding over in Perth in Round 3 that season, Tom Jonas went on radio and said he was shocked by the manner of the loss as they expected to go undefeated.

How do you have that level of [false] confidence and belief, yet approach big games like timid kids?

And then we have Hinkley passing the buck, and Rucci’s churning out articles for the website heralding Voss getting the gig at Carlton as rich vindication of the ‘football program’.

The mindf-ckery in that joint from top to bottom needs a full scale nuclear exorcism.

Well they did no match simulation in the 2 weeks between the quali and the prelim.
It's been a few years, so the timeline is murky to my recollection, but a few of the players got together for a piss up (I believe it was the weekend of the semi finals). My understanding is that this may have resulted in a few of these players not being able to access the Club due to certain covid protocols at the time.

The boys love Kenny though, they want to win one for him so badly

I'm only concerned that Carr is already there and has been for a while, a familiar person to the players. I have no doubt that Josh will be a good coach but because the players are already familiar to Carr he won't have the same impact as a fresh coach from outside. If we were selecting someone from the outside I would consider an experienced person like Buckley.

Some new assistant coaches must be coming. Carr would surely be getting this sorted.

Also just not having Ken around would be quite a change in the joint.

You can start to see where we are headed, we just have to ride it out.

Tbh I don't have an issue with Carr taking charge. It's the assistants below him that I have an issue with and that's where we need some change. Some tacticians and some that are strong in developing talent would go a long way.

I wouldn't say our depth is average talent wise, I would say that we have not developed our depth players as well as other clubs. Players like Lord, Williams, Walsh, Lorenz etc imo would be further along their development if they were in clubs like Cats, Swans, Hawks, Pies, Giants and Lions. We just don't have coaches that are capable of developing
The only thing I have an issue with is the fact that Hinkley is still there. Has anyone at the club given any indication of what possible advantage there is to having him here - apart from him getting a farewell tour?

If they could think of one besides money, it would be a miracle!

I don't doubt this is true. The thing is, AFL players are generally immature, lacking in life experience and quite often also unintelligent. This is where the leadership of the senior coach becomes important. Unfortunately, these players have a senior coach who is a loser and has no idea how to prepare a group of professional athletes for high performance.

Good person first, good footballer second. And what could be be better for making you a good person than going out with your friends and building a deep connection? That's far more important than preparing for the biggest football game of your life, a job that you get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars a year to play.
