Oscar McDonald? .. ..... . . .

you'd assume most rookies that come up from here onwards will eventually end up as dead rooks. cant see hustwaite staying in the squad. even if bo allen gets a game, how long until he's dropped again..

will have to start targeting cheap midpricers, or expensive rookies when they come about (e.g. smillie and kiddy).

The case for Hustwaite:

Been absolutely banging the door down at VFL level as the best player in the comp so far. His quietest game was the first of the season when he had 'only' 30 disposals, 10 clearances and 2 tackles. Overall, he's averaging 34 touches, 12 clearances and over 5 tackles at VFL level.

With Day out and now Nash suspended for 4 weeks, finally gets a chance at what should be a month of selection at minimum.

Handily coinciding with Hawthorn entering the 'easier' part of their draw with West Coast, Richmond and Melbourne the next 3 weeks.

The case against:

Mitchell historically has not put the kids in much for CBA's. Even Ward and McKenzie (both whose best position is on ball) have had to serve longer apprenticeships in other roles and are only just increasing now. It's possible with Nash out - he gives Ward, McKenzie and Dylan Moore more CBA's instead of Hustwaite. So far, there is not much evidence of Hustwaite doing all that much in other roles.

Also, Hustwaite has looked good in preseason and VFL before (granted, never to this extent) and not been given much of a go at AFL level for whatever reason (probably just because his best role was being filled by senior players doing a decent job of it).

Verdict: Definately wait at least this week to see how he is used (which really you should do for rookies anyway). With his mid time, I expect both will be true - in that those others mentioned will increase their loads but Hustwaite will get his chance too, especially as none of the others mentioned play the Nash role (bigger bodied, blocking, tackling, etc)

Reid, Davidson and Dawson to Petracca, Rowell and rookie. Bit early to be sideways trading but I've got three boosts left and there's no decent rookies on the horizon.

My teams been crap since Jacksons been on holidays, going to see if I can bring him back in for the duds that replaced him, maybe, probably not.

Have no idea, think I'll just sook about having picked a crap team, wait for some cows to moo and bring in some more duds when my bench has fattened up a bit more.

I do want Tsastas gone, sick of looking at the spud and he'll only annoy me more when he comes in and scores a 27.

Hmm, I have M Reid and Davidson as bench cover in forwards and mids, think I'll bring in a cheap D/M donut for Tsasta, so I can use Holmes (M) to cover the backs and have a Forward and back loop.

Think I can do that.

Great post. I've ended up having to bring him in this week to find a route to Daicos. YOLO

As for next week, Zorko looks tasty at close to $500k.

Speaking of Luke Jackson, hopefully he drops to $400k. It's inevitable that Darcy will break down, so hopefully Jackson is ripe for the picking when that happens.

But with Darcy in the side he’s not worth having

Will be going Max Hall, Kako and Trainor (unless I have JUST enough to keep him and trade a different rook like Caiden Cleary) to Trac and 2 rookies.

Went Clay Hall and Knevitt -> Flynn and Carroll this week

Trac first ton of the year against a bottom two side and everyone’s frothing at the mouth

Not frothing at the mouth, more so the fact he’s a solid price and position which allows for getting rookies off the field which is my priority right now

Has been ordinary this year at best. Think he was overscored the other night. 2 goals probably helped. Max had 4 more contested than he did - a ruckman. Clarry almost had double. Shadow of his former self. Looks like he’s mentally checked out.

Good like finding one let alone two decent enough rookies

Yea - that’s gonna be the trouble. All is fine in planning in advance but gonna need someone to pop up. Don’t love Oscar McDonald’s JS at all so probably don’t wanna go there. Not exactly many great rookies on the bubble. Hustwaite from hawks could be good but 1) would be going early 2) probably goes straight back out when Nash is back. Will have to wait and see

Name six forwards that are guaranteed to outscore him from here though?

CBAs back around the 80% mark the past couple of weeks, good bye, and he'll be still be sub-500k. Easy trade for non-owners if they have the cash.

I’ll find a way to get Murphy Reid out at ~300k and stagnating. Can see him having a rest or even a sub game soon.

Likely go a week early on Hustwaite assuming not sub. Nothing else standing out.

Only other option is Hewett at around 220k? or so. But seems like a waste on Reid.

There’s no such thing as a guarantee in SC.

But based on the first seven weeks of the season, I’d put these six easily ahead of him: Simpkin, Macrae, Smith, Daniel, JHF, Rankine.

He’s currently 21st on average for forwards. The only question is whether you think one game against the bottom side is more indicative of the six games prior as to what his future output will be (and maybe it will be).

I definitely wouldn't put Simpkin "easily ahead of him". If the midfield time holds for Petracca (as it likely will considering we've won both games with him in there), he'll comfortably outscore Simpkin. Daniel is also line-ball considering that he isn't far off being dropped at the moment, despite his stats.

Also, his average of 95.3 is 14th amongst forwards now. Greene, Kennedy, Pickett, Wright, Simpkin and Hogan won't outscore him from here.
