6 of their scores were rushed. 1 of ours was rushed. Scoring shots (excluding rushed) Ess 21, Port 19. Not as big a delta as it looks on first sight.

So, disregarding rushed behinds, they kicked 9.12; we, 8.11.

Yet…

Goldsack, Sutcliffe, Cornes, Hinkley.....what a coaching brain trust

I’m adding once again that Cornes was the coach of our last competitive Magpies’ season.

It was a simple fact of Reid defending Georgiades by being a couple of metres in front of him, instead of just ineffectively being led to the ball like McKay and Ridley were.

Just deliver the ball up on the defenders head, give Mitch the sit, the lad can jump and jump very well. Back him 9 times out of 10 to outmark his opponent when the balls not to the defenders advantage.

Also help if there was a bit of talk between forwards, have someone else chip lead -middle out to the boundary - across the field into Mitch's space to cover that lead up option.

Having the 192cm Georgiades as the lone key forward is a total joke and will be exposed as such every week that we don't play Richmond and maybe West Coast.

As much as Marshall and Lukosius are potatoes, they are at the very least tall potatoes who will get the odd mismatch and might sometimes be able to stop their opponent marking the ball.

Ollie Lord has to come into this team and stay there, it's not even an option if we want to win more than 3 or 4 games this year.

End of the day they deserved to win that game. We had so much of the play in the first half and had 4 goals to show for it. You're not going to win many games with that sort of return. They dominated the last quarter.

He started really nicely. Took a neat mark uncontested on the wing. Then a good overhead mark running back into the forward pocket dropping behind Redman. His setshot from the boundary was a drop punt that hit the post. Thereafter he didn’t really feature except for one half-tackle that showed good intensity on the defensive side of wing but stilll didn’t lockdown the opponent with the ball.

Too little in too short a time with his teammates too poor to be able to judge him.

Didnt help that the coaches decided to plonk him in the goal square at full forward oppose to McGrath and our mids couldnt win the ball and deliver it half decent to the forward line. Then so inevitably he ended up fading out of the game. Could of used his speed and energy higher up the ground El Hawali style but nah cochrane probably gets dropped this week for no good reason too

I've been developing a system to compare and contrast my simplified stats for IMPACT vs junk stats. I'm keen to see how this compares to champion data, Brownlow medal, coaches votes etc.

One thing I want to refine is tackles. I want more points for effective tackles especially leading to free kicks.

Here are the results for my key stats from last game and I'm surprised at the outcome. Jordon Sweet had a lot more impact than I had noticed. Please be aware this isn't rewarding uncontested kicks that don't impact the game.

I've readjusted the scoring. I gave too many points for goals, I'm thinking statistically 4 inside 50s = 1 goal. Hitout to advantage and clearances should be on par.

Also this isn't an Attack Connor Rozee opportunity. I put a lot of time into this. Take the results as you wish.

Not sure about that. If you're feeling disrespected and invalidated by the club and have become disenfranchised, isn't it better to cut ties altogether?
Not if you xam differentiate between the club and the current custodians and know that there are still enough people who get it to save the club of they act soon.

Watched the a North Crows game today then just rewatched our first half.

Why do North seem to have game-plan and method…. We have Ken.

Can you post your full methodology? Maybe in a thread of its own…

Definitely the immediate take away is it looks like you're putting a lot of value on ruckmen actions.

It might look that way but rucks this season are impacting the game in more stats. Look at TDK.was getting clearances hit outs to adv inside 50s.....
What I'm not doing is rewarding disposals that don't have a significant impact on the game.

Why reward an uncontested kick around the ground.
Those scores have also been adjusted. I've got up on the main board for round 3.

One thing to consider is that if you are rating centre bounce actions higher then its gonna reward players that start in the middle.

Anyway not meaning to be too critical, just find this interesting as I've always felt CD doesn't get it quite right.

Ruck has first opportunity to impact game. Hitout to advantage. Weighted same as a clearance.

Will also reward stoppages.

every player has multiple opportunities to score.

The beauty of this system is no one stat can give a high score. You need multiple. 4 to 5 in fact. Unless you kick 12 goals and take 10 contested marks inside 50. But that's elite by any standard.

Essendon v Port Adelaide

8 Zach Merrett (ESS)
7 Sam Durham (ESS)
6 Xavier Duursma (ESS)
4 Jase Burgoyne (PORT)
3 Ollie Wines (PORT)
2 Dylan Shiel (ESS)
I didn't really notice Duursma, except a couple of times when he was chasing Moraes (unsuccessfully) and the occasion when he spilled a diving chest mark near the boundary line. Obviously both coaches gave him votes.

Burgoyne as our best was pretty clear. Wines was the only of our mids who played to a reasonable standard.
