Well it's actually something I've been thinking about , you're not likely to win too many games giving big starts no matter who you are.

I'm sure we're totally aware and we won't be intending to give starts in big games. That's a given.

This is shaping like a topsy turvey year and banking the first 4 wins will be pivotal.

This team is going to be scary good in a few weeks once the early season rust is shaken off and everything starts to click.

We will have periods throughout games this season where the level of cohesion, skill and dominance is unlike anything we’ve yet seen under Fagan.
Perhaps.

I guess it's possible.

We've seen a few 'unbeatable' teams fall off the perch in recent times. As long as we make Top 4 I'll be happy.

Didn’t say we’d be unbeatable. I didn’t even suggest we’d win those games. I just think from what we’ve shown whilst nowhere near our best thus far, once we build into the season we will see periods throughout games of dominance we are yet to see from this group. The level of talent and skill is undeniable, particularly around the midfield, wing & flanks.

doodee was listed as 1-2 weeks at the start of the week. Every chance he plays against Richmond on the weekend. Can’t wait to see how he goes if he does play. Hoping starce is back for gather round. Then it’s a full strength defence minus kiddy.
I think that’s when we will start to see how we go. We should improve over the next few weeks, iron out some kinks …. Next 4-5 weeks going to be exciting.

Just say Doedee ,Coleman and Starcevich are all fit and good to go.

What happens team wise ?

I know footy blogs love what ifs.

As in selection wise ?
Or performance wise ?
on current back 6 I’d drop Answerth and Bruce drops off.
Who’s in for those 2? Starce and probably kiddy.
No idea where doedee goes.
Performance wise I believe we would be stronger defensively. Maybe Zorko pushes up more ? …. And kiddy replaces him. But that means someone gets dropped for Zorko to push up because you’re only doing that to then try and fit doedee in.
Does Doedee replace Sam Day up forward ?
I don’t even know.

Someone has to say it. Lester is one of the most reliable ,dynamic and exciting half backs in the game. Regularly supports his team mates going in to 2 on 1's and winning the ball or diffusing the contest. Know exactly where to kick it on the rebound.

Who knew. Well I know someone who knew but I never did.

I told Fages and Leigh at Balmoral on a Saturday night to bring Lester in for Joyce.

Doedee will play VFL. I don't think they'll bring a guy off 2 acls straight back into the seniors. Could take a month or so of VFL footy to even get going again.

The one thing I'd be careful about is Zorko. He's been winning us games ever since we put him in the backline and the position seems easier on his body. Wouldn't mess with that.

A tough match and at half time I thought we might be out of it - but we came back strong and won in the end.

I would like for us to stop letting other teams build leads and then coming back - it will cost us in a big game.

Happy we are 3-0 and onto Richmond.

Especially since his main replacement in the seniors would be Froggy and there's no way you could drop him after that performance last night

Ha, awesome. I thought she was really good. That sort of stuff suits her down to the ground I reckon, both chatting with the players of course but also interacting with the fans around the ground during the game. Go Belle 👏

Lots of positives. Connection between mids and forwards didn’t appear great even in the second half when we were on top. Wet, slippery ball, perhaps. The forward group getting their leading patterns right post Joe? Lots of delivery to a two sometimes three on one Lion with the ball being swept away by the outnumbering defenders.

Any comment from those at the game?

Thought our defence saved us in the second quarter. Could have easily been three or four goals further behind. Left the door open and our mids took full advantage.
Yeah defence outstanding.

I just thought with our forwards we had a small (usually Charlie, occasionally Kai) playing as our deepest forward, which I have been at pains to say over the years I simply don't think is sustainable, in any conditions, but particularly in the wet. We needed a big body to present as a target and get one or more smalls in around him.

It's always great to send that smug turd Dangerfield home with a loss. A bonus to add some stitches to go with it.
Looked like he was getting ready for Halloween.

Wouldn't have happened if the quarters were shorter right Patrick? 🤪🤦

First half things just did not go to plan, but a lot was our own doing.
Last week against the Eagle i thought we did not lower our eyes going forward. Pinged away at goals when that was not the option.
That trait was still there in the first half, and we struggled to score.
People may say it was wet but watching live i thought the conditions were good for footy.

Marks inside 50 to half time Cats 8 Lions 0 with Neale being tagged out of the game with 8 disposals to half time.

I mentioned before halftime Fagan and the coaches have to do something about Neale when he is not handling a hard tag.
Move him forward/wing/start off on the bench but do something to help break the tag.

After 1/2-time Neale lines up at full forward (again in the last quarter) and takes our first mark inside 50 for the day.
Neale scored a point. We then took two more marks inside 50 shortly after, unfortunately those also resulted in a point.
But at that stage you could see things had turned and we played a better style of footy.
Not as congested up forward and we kicked 4 goals 3 behinds to the Cats zero setting us up for the last quarter to win the game
I was just as impressed with our last quarter as our 3rd as Geelong responded and it was a struggle to eventually win the game.
I believe the pressure rating was over 200 for both teams in the last quarter.

Our KPF of Hippy, Morris & Day are doing a great job of not being out marked one on one.
But Geelong had an extra tall in defense and that made it very difficult for KPF when our players just rushed kicks forward.
Of the three only Morris was credited with a mark I50 but that was literally on the 50-meter line.

Mainly our defense has got us to be 3-0

We got the win and are 3-0 and i will say again i am so glad we did not meet the Cats in OR or things may be very different.

Lloydy has put us on notice 😬😅. I'll take the 3-0 with room for improvement thank you.

Also the Swans and Geelong played well for periods of these games, who are both likely top 8 teams. Sure the Eagles kicked 5 goals in a row, most of which were high quality BTW, but we comfortably control this game after this. It's not an internal practice match.

Always whinging about us for one thing or the other.

Before Grand final - "oh I like sydney's preparation to Grand final. Sydney should win"
After West Coast game - "oh I don't like Will Ashcroft's 1-2"

Since we won again vs Geelong - he had to eat his hat again and had to go nitpick on something else.

Keep that 2001 hate going Lloydy, it's always fun watching you make proclamations and then we burn you back. It's like Kingy's "Chris Scott is the best coach in modern footy" and Fagan has beaten him back to back.

Section 5 Nice post. Even though Lachie has been tagged out of two games, Dunkley, Hugh and WAshcroft have been some of the best players in these games. If Lachie is tagged well and nobody plays well then that's when we are screwed.

I loved McCluggage's game yesterday. He played like he was possessed.

That Bailey Smith tackle was something I'd usually associate with Dunkley or Berry doing - watching Hugh nail it while swinging his body all the way around Smith showed how vested he was in winning. Amazing.

Also a special shout out to Wilmot and Answerth. They kept the smalls quiet and Wilmot has the knack of popping up and not only intercepting but sidestep through traffic to get us back into F50.

Sometimes it looks quite funny watching Wilmot with the ball, it's like he has come up with 5-6 different permutations of what he's going to do, like even he's not sure what's going to happen next.

Wilmot will be brilliant one day if we ever choose to transition him into middle of the ground. He has almost all tools you can think of - defensive first, leap, pace, long/short kicks and any other metric you can think of. Every single time he pops up to provide that intercept cover as well as rebound. And we are just scratching the surface, playing him as a small defender.

Just say Doedee ,Coleman and Starcevich are all fit and good to go.

I know footy blogs love what ifs.

Starce obviously comes in as soon as he’s ready/considered safe.

RE Doedee and Kiddy; given they’ve both missed so much footy and the team has their positions well covered, give them a few weeks in the VFL. Get their touch back, then we can make the hard decisions from there.

For Doedee it’ll be him vs Lester; obviously Lester at the moment is hard to displace but Doedee is VERY good at his best so we’ll have to see what happens later in the season.

Kiddy…. I genuinely have no idea. At his best I stand by the statement that he’s the best halfback in the comp by daylight; it was so clear that we knew that going into last year as well and based our gameplan around him (he was central to that first half dominance against Carlton before he went down, and I distinctly remember in one of the pre-season games Sydney having to tag him because he was running wild). But Zorko has also been good enough to earn an AA jacket there… We could play both obviously but then need to justify someone else coming out, maybe Answerth? But he’s been very good too.

I do not envy the selection panel.

You've been Lestered

JEZZA got a firm Lestering

Hit lace out out on your chester by Lester.

Rebound 50 by Lester the goal investor

No green vester for Lester
We will never Sequester Lester, despite noises from the Court Jester and the occasional Uncle Fester.

History and form prove it is better to be a Lester Investor than a Lester Divester.

Scary what our side can do if we get Starcevic, Doedee and Coleman all back for the second half and we actually play our best footy.

And Daniher makes a comeback in the MSD.
