Battle is the best comparison based off what we have. However, Battle is more a key defender.

Looking at how Essednon are selected this week, it will depend on match ups against them. It looks as though they are playing two ruckman so we may well need another tall defender to help out. Cordy to Wright, Battle to Langford, Wilkie to Draper and Shoenmaker to Cox. Stocker to Stringer and Sinclair, Bonner or Naz get the other small forwards. That leaves one of Sinclair or Bonner spare to play other positions if required. It may also mean that if Shoey starts he also will need to be positionally flexible.

Im backing there is a 70% chance Max beats his suspension so we wont need to worry about filling his spot. There is no way that was moderate impact IMO.

I did watch the game and he didn’t take all the kick outs.

He was also moved onto the wing in the last and the only reason they had a chance up until the first goal pies goal of the last.

They were giving him the ball a lot. He was the best of our listed players still. No-one looked very exciting.

It was his first VFL game and they almost played exclusively through Arie.

He marked well and had he goaled from his 50m set shot into the wind early in the last. We could have been talking about a good Sandy win and talking his performance up.

His kicking exhibited different lengths and across angles. He moved the play and hit the open man constantly.


Butler for Henry
Arie for Wood.

Sinclair and Jones onball to replace the dynamic Henry.

Arie gives us more height but elite kicking under the roof at marvel. Few times yesterday he wanted to unload the cannon but the wind made it hard.

Butler was terrible. Looked disinterested.

Shoenmakers is almost demanding a spot. There just isn't an obvious hole for him to fill at the moment.

Butler for Henry makes sense.

Shoenmakers for Wood and we shuffle a few deck chairs around. Maybe Bonner spends a bit of time up the ground.

Or we make him sub and Jones spends time on the wing.

I can't see how King doesn't get off that charge.

Butler looked a long way from playing seniors to me. Unless they just wanted to get him through the minutes. I'd almost give that spot to a kid unless they were managing him. Garcia wasn't stand out but almost the most ready as he could play a tagging role like he did in the practice match, maybe on a rebound defender.

Is a bigger slower version of Bonner who is better at marking.

So we stay with Bonner then.

First VFL game and they were actively seeking Arie out. Arie was the player moved higher up the ground at 3/4 to try win the game.

All game long, he looked consistently a class above the field and was constantly getting that ball in motion and spreading the ground.

Personally, I think he would be real stiff to not get a game based off that and it looks like a debutant is going to be named (based on the injury list)

Yep, he’s a HBFer that happens to be tall and can intercept mark. He’s just not quick like others that he will compete against for that spot.

Need to build up his defensive game so he's a capable shorter Full Back a'la Stephen May or Trent McKenzie at Port (never thought I'd reference him). Can't take the gorillas or extra tall forwards but can cover most else, using his cannon to clear the zone defences for us.

Watch it, he wasn’t going hard at all. He looked like someone doing his program and not get injured. He looked a long way off playing seniors to me. Garcia got lots of tackles too but didn’t do much to demand a spot.

bonner is more likely to make way than nas/sinc/wilkie etc.. could see battle taking cordy's spot and arie taking battle's.. depending on the oppo

He didn’t have to win his own footy so his disposal count was a bit inflated. He was the only player that put his name up but don’t know if we have a spot for him.
