Assuming that Waterman is ok, Duggan and Hutchinson miss.

IN: Ryan, Allan
OUT: Duggan, Hutchinson
SUB: One of Allan, Cole, Maric

Move Dewar up to the wing to cover Hutch and either Maric or Allan can take Dewar's sport in the backline, match up dependant, and the other sub.

Duggan being out is a bit of a blessing. Graham, Kelly, Duggan combined for too many midfield rotations (along with Harley). It looked slow and one paced and unable to defend. With Duggan being out, it provides a bit of opportunity to give Elijah some more midfield time.

While Brisbane are a superior team, their on ballers aren't as brutal as the inside game of Gold Coast. Last weekend they ran with Clug, Neale, Dunkley and Ashcroft almost exclusively. A good midfield, yes but not the blunt instruments that GCS are, and if we are going to lose clearance by 20, I'd rather give Elijah a more substantial role.

Ryan can take the minutes Elijah was spending up forward.

After watching the weekends mess I'm now of the opinion that baker is going to have to spend a bit of time on ball. I don't think duggan is the answer in there, I'd rather see him stay back.

Not the position we would have had in mind, but the midfield is in such a state at the moment that it needs someone with bakers attitude injected into it, particulary while yeo is still out. He'd be more than willing to call blokes out who aren't willing to pull their weight in there. We invested alot in the guy, time to put him to work where he's needed most.

I'm just not seeing it with Long. He's a small forward that averages 11 disposals a game, and barely kicks any goals. Should be building match fitness back in the WAFL.

Lengthy lay off and did enough to earn a round one spot. I don’t think we should be pointing too much at him based off that - not exactly a great day to be a small forward was it?

If no injuries
Out: Flynn, Cripps, Long, Hunt, Kelly, A Reid
In: Ryan, J Williams, Hall, Petch, B Williams, B Allen
B: Hough, Edwards, Duggan
HB: Maric, Gov, Ginbey
C: Dewar, Hutchinson, Graham
HF: Petch, O Allen, Brockman
F: Harley, Waterman, Ryan
R: B Williams, Baker, Hall
INT: Hewitt, J Williams, B Allen, Owies, Cole

Need more speed in the forward line and only play players who will gut run both ways and scrap in the midfield, so I'm happy to keep Harley deep forward until he shows that he gives a shit, and if he cracks the shit then he can piss off back to Melbourne, I don't care.
I want players who give a shit

For the longest time, some on this board have acted like Kelly isn’t clearly in our best 5-10, just because the price we paid means he came with the pressure of needing to be in our best 1-3. Some people even laughably pretend he’s not in our best 22.

Yesterday wasn’t that, yesterday was genuinely someone who wasn’t good enough on the day and, most things being equal, would be in line for being dropped. That’s new for Kelly, whether you want to admit it or not.

But nonetheless, there is simply no way a midfield this thin walks into the home ground of the reigning premier and drops the only bloke in our side capable of having 30 touches, however few and far between they seem right now. Not after Round 1 of a new regime.

Setting yourselves up for disappointment I think.

Dewar a forward was playing in the backline, did some dipstick think they were going to turn Dewar into a Lewis Jetta overnight. Whoever was responsible for that grossly stupid move should be shown the door.
Does anyone know why Maric was on the bench for 3 qtrs when our defence was getting flogged.

Got to disagree on this. Bo Allan showed plenty in the Bunbury game.
I thought he looked a bit overawed by the pace of things, but I know this is an unpopular take.

Maybe I'm just too pumped by the unexpected Grego love in. :)

Per MKMatty what about just shifting him out of the middle? Get him running off half back or something? Agree he was putrid in the guts.

If Gross is fit he should debut. Looked so good in the second team against the flow (which let’s face it, we are going to see a lot of this season) in one of the intraclubs. He’s a competitive type and hard as a cats head. Also more dynamic than Hall who I’m not against getting a gig again soon too

Think there'll be a few injury changes and maybe one or two more but after a deep breath have come round from wanting half the side dropped to send a message.

Don't think that's the go for a new coach after game 1 - feels more toys out of the cot than sending a message. And if the message doesn't work and we get towelled up against Brisbane (likely even with the most optimal side any of us could put together) it just deflates everyone.

If these types of performances continue then yeah, would hope Mini makes a statement. But right now think we need to back a few players in to be embarrassed and want to rectify it. Ridiculous to punt Kelly - as others have said that really would be shitting the bed despite deserved disappointment at his performance.

I'd be looking to add another pure mid to the mix but not at the expense of our starters on Sunday (as much as I want to say they deserve it) - I just think the balance was off in that if we couldn't compete player for player in there, at least have a few more fresh bodies who can actually play in there throwing themselves in hard then rotating out.

Add whoever of Gross or Hall they feel is best up for it, probably at the expense of whichever small forward they felt didn't perform their role. Give them legitimate top 4 midfield minutes - we need to uncover someone else in there desperately, we're unlikely to at WAFL, let's see what they can properly do. Let Kelly play a little more HFF on balance.

If Duggan is out, Maric to start (needs to start regardless) and possibly Grego/Allan for a debut.
