Two weeks ago Danny Dailey was interviewed and asked about matho.

He quoted the coaching mantra - too many deficits in his game, not a two way runner blah blah blah

Not only was matho easily in the top third of players today, he makes other players stand tall.

The fact that our coaches can't understand how he contributes to our top team is worrying.

They are allowing bias to influence their team selection, and it stinks, and borders on incompetence.

We smashed contested possessions. Yes, GSW are a poor team, but we lost last week, at home against a team equal to GWS.

Can't wait to see what Fagan has to say. My money is he was say he has a cracker of a game, great depth player.

Then I will lose my s**t.
Especially with Lyons in the team.

It’s not going to be the difference between a premiership or not but are we starting to think Fort might be a slightly better ruckman than Oscar? For what we need with this team anyway?

We need contest mid field winners. Fort provides that, big O doesn't.

Big O is a good contested mark in the forward 50 , but for the moment we have that covered. Next year sans Mcstay we play both fort and O.

Shits me when we give up the last few goals. Happens all the time. Coleman has the potential to be a million dollar man, he’s the Rich replacement but there’s something extra with Coleman which is the exciting part, we still don’t know how good he can be.
1.6% lost in a couple of minutes.

Great game. Average oppo, but none the less it ticked every box.

Defensive structures
Pressure
Clearance

The 3 areas that have landed us in a form slump where obviously well coached during the week and the boys executed across those areas for 4 quarters.

Well done Beast, now hold your spot.

We commit to that for the next 2 months and we have prelim credentials.

I think he's better on the ground but I'm still not sure he's better than Oscar in the ruck contest (who he himself is probably below average). The other game Fort was no. 1 ruck, the two Geelong guys gave him a bath.

Also super happy for Hipwood for those two goals. He may deserve to be dropped on form, but we're sticking with him to get some games in before finals, and those goals he got today are exactly what he needed.

On current form I don't think we're a serious threat for the flag, but if we are to get there you'd think we'd need him back close to his best. Not sure he's going to get much playing in the reserves, so I guess we'll keep playing him at AFL level and hope it slowly comes back for him.

Far and away the best he's looked since returning.

Absolutely. Fagan has refused to reward Mathieson’s form in the reserves and coaching staff and plenty of the parrots on our board have Chanted the Mantra about his supposed deficiencies. Well I tell you what, Mathieson has got enormous heart, mental strength and an obvious love for the club and he killed it out there. Fagan has clearly lost sight of the football fundamentals that have never changed in the nearly 55 years I have been following football - REWARD GOOD FORM AND MAKE BLOKES WHO ARE OUT OF FORM IN THE SENIORS GO BACK TO THE TWOS AND EARN THEIR PLACE IN THE TEAM.

Fagan’s hubris is on full display in these situations also:
Devon Robertson should be on the senior team.
Ah Chee and Prior don’t get dropped again.
We can’t afford Adams and Payne in the same team because they are poor contested footballers.
Ryan Lester deserves a proper run in the seniors. He is a better footballer and contributes more than Fagan and the parrots give him credit for. “Oh, but he has deficiencies…LOL”

Reality check - Today we beat the team that was 14th on the ladder.

Couldn't squeeze Lester in for 1? 🤣
Always. I would like to see him in the team. I tell you what though, I thought posters taking pleasure in his non selection let themselves down. Many of the same posters sang from the hymn sheet that said Mathieson is a ‘reserves’ footballer who doesn’t have what it takes for the seniors because of his flaws.

If you call it hubris it did cost us the 4 points last week.

In hindsight.

This is what made me so happy. Clear improvements in what has been letting us down.

Matho made such a clear big impact. Huge pressure and enthusiasm.

Hughe getting released slightly wider as that receiver is a winner. He looks so good driving the ball forward.

If Kiddy played like this for a full year he would get an AA spot. Ball use is brilliant.

McStay showing his absolute value. Best pressure forward. Flexibility in the ruck and following up at ground level. Only one missed shot as a blemish

Rayner was my other best. Good mix of forward and mid. Pressure, marks and goals.

Also thought Cockatoo was decent in the backline. Good pressure and ball use. Gives us another option. I'm also usually a little critical of Answerth but can't deny he puts his body on the line

I quite liked Cockatoos game today
Not sure how they did not register one single tackle on his stat sheet.
If Rich returns next week someone has to go
Will it be Cockatoo or Answerth to go?

Sharp will be overlooked next week so that makes way for Prior to return

Good win after last weeks loss
Now we need to break that W/L record that has prevailed for the last 9 games since the Adelaide win
W, L, W, L, W, L, W, L, W
Now for the Suns next week surely we can break the sequence

The reality check is that we have tread this path before with Matho. His form is undeniable at the moment and he provides a feel good factor for the team obviously. Playing like this he is what we need in a seriously misfiring midfield but let's not fire off prematurely. It was refreshing see us with a different look.

That was Cockatoo's best game. There could be a future for him down back. We can't fit them all in.
