I'd have Mihocek over King in the blink of an eye. Is incredibly durable and always available for selection, is really strong in aerial contests and an accurate kick for goal and is very strong defensively. A very underrated footballer and possibly the best value for money player in the past 10

Most importantly, Mihocek plays for the black and white and doesn’t get suspended for knocking out players.
( Not that Max actually knocked his out)
😉

Obviously the 77.3% is an anomoly, I wonder if its for players with such high uncontested levels?

Surely you can see the guy (Bonner) cant DEFEND and playing a HBF role irrefutably has to be his first job. The ball has lived in our defensive zone for most of the year and I cant recall one occasion when he has gone back with the flight or laid a game stopping tackle or spoil. I am not relying on stats its the old 'eye test' and we simply cant rely on him to win a one on one contest on the rare occasions he is matched up on an opponent. If we didnt need Sinclair in the midfield I doubt he gets a game, so I guess its a moot point to some degree.

Having said the above I would much prefer to be getting games into players with a future like Hastie or Shoenmaker, if not them then Paton for me provides a hard edge we are missing in defence.

I don’t see a problem with him being in the side. I’d say only a few players are even close to their best this year. This guy is owning his spot. His role is to attack through kicking. Doesn’t always come off. When he stops performing he’ll lose his spot.
Schoenmaker is closest to how he plays and looks most likely to push him out long term. Don’t see anything wrong with developing him at Sandy though.

Premierships aren't won with Messiahs which we have proved over the past 50 or so years. King is not the weapon he was expected to be and after 6 years in the system is yet to have his breakout that catches the eye of the competition.

I'm frustrated and concerned in equal doses and I'm certainly becoming concerned with the excuses he is still afforded.

Hopefully he can turn it on soon and meet the lofty expectations when he was crowned Winx and bestowed the number 12 guernsey.
yeah, lets see how Mihocek goes with the same delivery that Max gets.

Over the past 2 years, kind of sells itself.
An available and reliable asset is much more valuable to a premiership campaign.
yeah, those premier coleman medallist forwards like hawkins, cameron, lynch, riewloldt, kennedy,

i mean none of them have won flags recently at all...

I've been as frustrated as anyone with Bonner but he's in a new team, new plan undertaking a crucial role. This is absolutely not our year so I'd rather he get time to see if he can be a HBF in our side.

The upside is if Bonner settles we can get NAS forward of centre much more. That NAS => Hammer pass on the weekend, it was a thing of absolute beauty and something we've been crying out for since, like 2017 or so.
Nas has the ability to create beautiful moments every week.
Has been less of a force this year compared to last. However as has been mentioned here teams have been sitting on him, he seems to be working through that by streaming forward, which Nas passing into F50 like Sinclair is what we wanna see more off... Could Mason Wood kick 30 odd goals in the back half of the season?

Ok we come home the back half of the year, win all those games and maybe even one more..Like freaking Port at home here...

Then beat Geelong and Carlton in the last couple of weeks...

I might believe again.

At some stage we have to try Heath surely?
Sounds like he’s doing well at Sandy.
He gets better each game, I still think he is a way off AFL. Don't know if he has the tank to do the two way running Roh does.

He is building an AFL tank, but feel he will get a go late this year or 2025.

In the words of Molly, do yourself a favour and watch the 2nd half, especially the 4th.

It's amazing what can happen when coaches have talent at their disposal to execute a game plan. We looked so much better when King went off too. Camaniti is our guy, hopefully he can be the number one banana for a block of games.

Special mention to RoMa, the way he picked himself up after that clash and didn't thing twice about getting to the next contest.

RoMa or Wilkie should be our next Captain.
I like your idea about Marshall as skipper.

On average King kicks 2x as many goals than Mihocek and he averages more goal assists

And as mentioned King doesn't get the midfield supply that Mihocek gets

What Mihocek also has and King doesnt have currently is a great fleet of small forwards who are dangerous both in the air and at ground level as forward support.

We drafted Collard but another gun marking small forward should be on our Xmas list

Pou, Ro, King (I think) & Stock all spending time in the pool today.

Arie has concrete hands, his kicking is sublime, seriously elite - but overhead marking still needs a fair bit of work. I'm no coaching expert, but he desperately needs some one on one time with someone to learn 'soft hands'.

Love watching the 'reserves group' train. So much potential there, of those guys Garcia is just so ready-made. Can't speak highly enough of his endeavour, rarely does anything wrong with skills or decision making.

Irish improving with every session, great size and could surprise with a sneaky debut before the end of the year.

I almost wrote off Hotton as an injury bust but he's starting to really explode out of the blocks at training. He is ahead of Collard and Hall in my opinion as that fwd option in the wings, with Hall being very new and yet to adjust.

Hastie lacks a bit of strength when bodied, but has great footy instincts nonetheless. Kid is quick and has a beautiful boot on him. Will fit in perfectly when Jimmy retires but I'd be more than comfortable to see him in Bonners role if we want to blood the kids.

Crouch way too good for the twos, the guy is a fantastic footballer - easy to forget how good he is when fit, emphasis on the last bit.

Considering covid years, Allison and Heath still need time. Heaths short game is horrible, but he wouldn't be the first big man who has trouble with that. I'm turning the corner with him, kids a big boy and is still so young - times on his side and improving every week.

Allison, he hurts my brain, can look incredible one minute then completely second rate the next. He certainly has potential, but needs to consistently perform at training and in games to keep the faith in him.

Mainly focused on the developing players today so don't have a lot to really report.
Edit: actually I lie, remember a bit from 'seniors'.

  • Battle, I know he is a FA discussion point, but he is still so underrated I feel. Everything he does is fantastic
  • Owens trained well
  • Sharman, can't remember where he was training but I remember him doing some great things - great timing and a real spring in his leap.
  • I want to say I noticed more, but no real other standouts today.

I reckon if Heath doesn't get his debut this year he will be cut, if he doesn't have an AFL tank by now then he never will and we shouldn't be spending excessive resources flogging dead horses, this was the error of past recruiting teams, not bringing in o
players who had the physical tool kits from the get go...the whole big men take longer thing is a myth and a relic from the past.

Bring assets into the club who can provide a ROI on investment within 2 years...otherwise cut them and churn the list over but keeping players on a list for in excess of 5 years without having any AFL capability is poor business.

In breaking news, Max King is showing no signs of his knee injury - at training it was almost as though he was a completely different player. Unfortunately, Ben King has gone on a one week holiday and as such will miss this week's game.

Cutting Heath now would be madness. We don't actually need him in the AFL team now. Whether big men take longer or not doesn't matter, right now he's starting to dominate at VFL level and could definitely make it as an AFL ruck with the trajectory he's on.

Long has been one of their best players the last few weeks. I'd like to see someone pay him some close attention and light his short fuse. I'd also like to see Windy play another negating role, worked a treat. If Crouch is not right please for the love of god do not bring him in as we'll be badly exposed. Garcia for Ross and instruct the expressionless one to lay 20 tackles plus!

Insultingly, GC are favourites on our home deck. Time to roll this souless mob, put the sour right back into that pout of Dimma's and push on for one more short-break before the Bye.

Saints by 3 points. Howard to keep Bing goaless! Higgins off the leash kicks 5.
