Philp has his brief; Bring Pressure.
Couldn't be more straight-forward than that.

A couple of goals won't go astray, either. I'll say he'll get 2.
He is also under instruction to bring

Apparently he needs to bring these as well

Looking at the tackle numbers in the ressies, there was no way you could leave Philp out.

Lightning over 20m, he will sneak up on a few of the drug cheats.

If I was Essendon I'd tag Martin not Cripps
Speed is an important key. Tackling and the ability to hold a tackle equally so . So many times I have seen our Opposition break our tackles . Sometimes I do wish we could bring in a Melbourne storm coach to help us in this area. I really don't like it when we tackle and the opposition player and they get their arms free and dish out a handball. I see that time and time again. We have added speed. We will need it. Its the icing on the cake.

Unpopular opinion - Simo wasn't really a "great" player until he went to the backline at around age 30, prior to that he was just an OK winger.

Heart and soul the last 6 years and there were about 3 years of mercurial defensive and courageous play in there.

I hope the hype around Smith and Rozee lights a fire under Walsh this week. He hasn't been poor, but is yet to put a complete game together this year.

I am hopeful we can be a good enough club to be able to carry him, if we are winning then no one is going to focus on him and he will be able to find his way in peace, if we are losing the pressure builds and media are more likely to start calling him out.

I remember I used to call for Simmo to be included in the All-Australian side as a genuine winger, as opposed to selecting a centre bounce midfielder and just naming them on the wing. So i used to love him on the wing.

I was probably like 16 at that time though, so not sure how much weight you can give it.

You nailed it - he has simply come across as a kid who is grateful for his chance and will do everything in his power to make the most of it. Throw in his exciting pace and willingness to tackle and you have the makings of a cult hero. All he needs is a unusual hair cut - perhaps he could go the Tom Alvin?
His work ethic is first rate and like his captain Cripps is always looking to improve his game and get better and better, bounced back from non Vic Metro selection to win Knights b&f and polled in every single game, the year before when out injured went away and worked on his sprint work so he would be better when he came back. Basicly he is a mini Cripps that refuses to quit and is always looking to be better, first class recruiting SOS.

Bombers will look to come out and flick the ball around and get it forward quickly and play chaos football to try and unsettle us at the start ala Cats in the last, we need to win the ball and control the tempo from the start and get it forward and then set up our press man on man to restrict there run and handball game and force the long kick outs where we dominate the airways, we do that from the start we can control the game and play it on our terms which we love. Blues by 24

Instilling confidence in the group and picking a team to win now has been such a breadth of fresh air...easy to forget we were like 1-11 last year and won 4 out of 43 games before Bolton was sacked.

The turnaround from Teague has been amazing and we're back on track to expecting wins and being able to beat the best.

Yes he's brought in some older guys, but that's the right call. It's not at the expense of our youth, we still have plenty of young guys in the team and we are now making our draftees earn it which is a good thing. Dow was being gifted games, and not just games but was playing a prominent role in the midfield and centre square stoppages that he didn't really earn tbh. Not to mention the negative flow on effects these decisions had on our older players and leaders like Murphy/Ed/Simmo - guys we need nurturing the younger players.

Also if we didn't start winning there's a fair chance guys like Martin & Papley wouldn't have wanted to come.
I agree on most points without question.
Not to sweep away Bolton’s positive attributes to our club, as I feel I was one of his last defenders in here, along with a weekly dwindling crew, until this matchup last year, with the game plan, implemention, player concious driven or not, derailment of his tenure, it was complete for all eyes.
The simplification of the entire system, has freed the play on field and off.
3 crap quarters for one win.
2 wins from 3.
We can slide into contention with a win over our hideous red rivals.
Bring it!!!!!!

Yeah, a little unpopular for me, thought Simmo was very good on a wing and probably would have broken the consecutive games record if prick didn't break his jaw

Its not just his numbers, his ball use frustrates me at times - and did last year. Needs to do more damage with ball in hand and not just be an accumulator.
Agree - he has to become the elite winger that can influence contests around the ground -- he probably need a few more Kg for that .. but in his defence last week the Long haired Viking didn't have much influence off his wing and Tomlinson didn't do much .. this week the MCG wingers rule the game so I back him in . before draft I stated I hope we don't come last so we can take Smith or rozee -- I hope im wrong ..

Yep he gave us plenty on the wing and that was an absolute dog act on the little champ.
He's quite tall in person. I wouldn't call him little! Quite stringy though.

Anyway, we better pump these scumbags this week. We should too, I'll be despondent if the dirty bogans can beat us

Can not wait to see Philp strat his stuff in navy blue. I hope he gets some minutes through the middle, Shiel and Merrett will struggle to deliver with Philp hanging off their back.
Im hoping he could be the first generation of players that have a positive win%. Interesting as simmo breaks the 3rd spot record for Carlton we could have a few players going up to 50%+ win records for blues.
