Heard several groups of people today talking about GWS, both on the train and at work.
It's 5am Game day and I'm at Sydney airport and there are Giants fans everywhere

Kids waving flags and loads of families

Plenty of tigers here too and all friendly and excited about their team too. Good atmosphere

We may not outnumber you tigers fans, but this is what this small club is all about

There will be 15-20k actual fans there today and the rest neutrals. But one thing i can assure you is you will hear us.

Best of luck today. Looking forward to the experience

Also, all the Richmond fans have had stuff for years. All the gws fans are only now jumping on the bandwagon so needed to buy something to show that they pretend to care about footy
You know what it is. And I can't quite put my finger on why yet.

There are 30k members and plenty more that have not signed up. But Sydney just doesn't have a culture where people go to the sport no matter what. I just don't get it.

I'm a foundation member of both Freo and GWS and live in Sydney these days. And even in NRL they will get 5k at a game and then their team make a final and suddenly 60k rock up from somewhere

Growing up in Perth people go to the footy no matter what, it's about the live experience. When I moved to Sydney that's why I joined the giants in the first place. To see some live footy when Freo were not playing.

I don't quite get it.

But there are more fans out there than people think

I think Melbourne's sporting culture is a bit more weaved into the city. Sport dominates the city most of the year and generally all Melbourne teams are fairly well supported and attended as well as other sporting events.

Also, in my experiences Sydney is a lot more business and corporate than say Melbourne or Perth, and that might be a factor.

NRL too which is Sydney's dominant sport is a better view on TV than at the game. It's a straight line sport, played sideways, and that works better with the camera following alongside rather than sitting at an obscure angle in the stadium. State of Origin is different because of the pure rivalry people just have to be there.

Very true I agree

But a GF appearance does wonders for a growing sport in this state anyway. I'm stoked

Hope it's a great close game

It’s simple, sydneysiders are theatre goers. They will go to things that are big events regardless of if it has any meaning. Finals, big exhibition games etc. An exhibition game between Sydney FC and LA galaxy will sell out due to David Beckham playing because they are theatre goers. Very different culture compared to Melbourne.

I feel the bookies are probably underrating Richmond there. $1.40 is pretty good. The real juicy odds are Richmond $3.50 for winning by 40+. Worth a cheeky $30
Lol. This is a 50/50 game.

Graham out is massive for the tigers. If some of the Giants get off the chain, Richmond basically have no one who can clamp down on them.

If it wasn’t for the MCG factor and I was looking at it purely head to head I’d have GWS slight favourites

I was on an early evening flight out of Sydney last night, and there were just as many GWS supporters at the airport
and on the plane as there were Swans supporters in the years of all the Swans GF's I've flown down for.

I was at the Sydney airport yesterday and there were a lot of Giants fans there. Was quite surprised by it to be honest
I just arrived in Melbourne

Jetstar put on extra flights and they all were lined up on the tarmac using the stairs.

It was cool to see the orange pouring off the 3 that were in a row with mine

Really looking forward to this one. Happy for either to win.

Would be good to see Phil Davis win and also good to see Tom Lynch win.

Great move by Lynch, could be from bottom one year to top the next
