How much of a better coach has Hardwick become since he's stopped coaching Richmond? It's just amazing how much his coaching has improved in less than a couple of months.

Previously, the media couldn't get enough of slagging him off at every opportunity. About his marriage breakup, his team's lack of onfield discipline, off-field discipline, his concerns at fixturing and poor umpiring, his testy relationship with the footy gutter press, and perish the thought of him ever being anything but one of "Clarko's disciples".

But now that he's on the market he's suddenly the next messiah for about half a dozen potential clubs, and the panacea for all of their long-term issues. Worth every dollar of any contract they might offer him.

It's incredible what leaving Tigerland can do for your media profile.
Vickery was Carey and Hudson combined as soon as he walked out of Punt Road.

He went up another notch in my estimation, showed some tactical changes that helped win the game dealt with adversity well and I like the way he speaks to the media win or lose, bouncing back from an 80 point smashing was quite an achievement.

Still needs to go through the process but his coaching in this interim role is not harming his chances at all.

Some posters here won't give him the credit he deserves as they want to be proven right. They would rather see us lose to prove a point. He is going to have some crap games, he is still a new senior coach, but I just liked the way we went about it, especially after our heavy loss last week and how it was looking in the 1st half last night.

He had the courage to take advantage of the swans by going with a smaller forward line, using the conditions and playing some of our better players in their best positions to turn the game around. As a supporter that's all you want to see in a coach, someone willing to try something different when it isn't going to script.

Game day thread was hilarious, melts galore in the first half. Pot shots at the coach, our tactics and our younger players. A lot of our posters look like gooses in the end.

Not sure how interesting it is but I was chatting to a guy who's a poort supporter today and he was saying he thinks all this year's success so far is down to Josh Carr.

He was saying worst case scenario for port is they make it to the GF then lose, lose Josh Carr to another team as head coach and they re-sign Hinkley. If that happens they fall back down the ladder he thinks.
That would be awesome to see lol

I always wondered where the Dimma protagonists disappeared to, they were reincarnated as poort fans and are now white anting Hinkley crediting all his success to josh carr ,,, where have you heard that before ,,, too funny 😁 you know it’s true

1zOR0Zq6.png-medium.png Just for those voting Leppitsch, here's a reminder of his last year as senior coach. And also, just have a think about Voss and how he's going again as senior coach of Carlton.

McQualter - 4-2 win loss currently.
Leppa's last season as per attachment. Not even we were as bad as his last coached team in 2016 (and we nearly sacked Dimma).

So hang on, Mini has more wins in 6 games than Leppa did in a season?

Yep. People forget how bad Brisbane was under Leppa. While he is proven to be a fantastic assistant coach, his senior record speaks for itself. The club was in disarray. Let's not forget.

It’s a terrific example that a successful coach is less about solving Rubik’s cube and much more about the collective momentum of having the entire team on board playing at their best
Interesting exercise to compare output of several players in recent month compared to first 10w of this season
It says plenty , especially so considering our average Forward line

Based on history he's right.

Sounds like a lot of Tigers fans back when Caracella first came on board, all the success was his and when he left we'd be screwed and yet we won the flag the year after he left.

Since Leppa left Lions he's spent 4 years under Dimma, a year off in the media and 2 years under McRae. Clearly he wasn't ready to step into the head coaching role @ Lions when he did and he'd have learnt some valuable lessons since then. By all reports he was a hard ass when head coach........now he's braiding Darcy Moores hair. A tactical genius according to Fly and has clearly mellowed.

Interesting to look at that and you are correct. In saying that could be possible he is better now then he was then. I guess we won't know unless we give him the opportunity. Will be interesting between now and August/September. I have voted Leppa, If I was to change would be most likely Mini or Carr.

Check their points against, over 2800 which is 130 points per game they conceded. For a bloke who is supposedly a defensive guru, that's horrendous

Bang on. Yet they’re stilll here fighting the good fight

Absolute toff. If you go back when Voss was the assistant coach, guess what they were saying about him and Hinkley on the Port board. No BS. They were saying the same thing. It was all Voss etc etc.
Funny thing was, we had posters saying it was all Blake. He moves on and Dimma wins another 2. Must of been all Fly and Leppa.....

There's no disputing Leppa's tactical nous, but is he a good motivator and manager of people? That's the big query on him that he will have to address if he is to get the job.

Id like to see Leppa back as an assistant.

I got no beef with that. I reckon Rutton has been doing awesome work since he has returned. Last year we had the highest scoring offence in the league with Teague. I think Leppa would be great back at the club, just not as senior coach.

With asst coaches There’s alot to be said being right place right time , take Caracalla for instance , claimed as messiah on here , when he had to stand on own two feet at ess it all turned to shit , and they only looked a competitive outfit again when Brad Scott arrived . 90% of asst coaches will never make it as head coach coz their skills are t in man management , we’re bloody fortunate able to road test one live ,,,you’d love to put Carr and skippy and Grigg thru same hoops

And that was the great thing "KDH" did. By being a Richmond man, he has given the club ample time to go through the process and select the right fit for the club. Totally selfless. I reckon Minis 1 wood is as a game day coach. He is making moves which seem to going to good effect (so far).
But I'll also say, Richmond would be doing the wrong thing if it didn't interview Chaplin, Carr, Yze and whoever else they feel appropriate.
