Review Rd 9: Freo keep rolling against the Swans

We haven’t gone backwards though, we are just coming to terms with a new, younger group playing together and taking on greater responsibilities.
It is evident when we get burned on transitional overlap from other teams - the defence is only as good as the midfield accountability and pressure on the ball delivery - that has previously been very poor at times.
The Jackson and O’Meara potters can suck it up and watch this team grow week after week, they are finding their feet now.
Get young Matthew Johnson in there as well after the suspension - getting games into him and we are building really nicely.
Erasmus was very poised at times today, he will be a contested in an under beast very soon..
Agree with your post 100% will also add I thought Treacey was sensational today , Best game in Purple
And isn't it great we no longer have to watch that human toilet brush in Lobb ever play in purple again and the ones taking his role are proving to be better than him.

I'm starting to believe personally.
Amiss, Dogga Jackson and Treacy is a handy forward big man mix.
Our mids have lifted too, big time!
There are some good signs for the future but need to remember that the first game was the Hawks and Sydney probably has the worst backline in the AFL at the moment (well bottom 3 for sure).

I think they will struggle to replicate that against quality KPDs just due to their age but its probably a glimpse of the future once they mature.

yewh Tom Stewart, De Koning and Rutogalea is a different kettle of fish

RIP Taberner's career
Sad if this is true....

You don't usually shed a tear for a player at the end of their career unless it's a club legend or player that at least work hard and busted his a** to help the club.

When Taberner retires, I will miss him. I think he is contracted until 2024 anyway. Even then, Tabs body isn't great.

There are other guys that want to play in his spot in Jackson, Tracy and Amiss.

Jono Griffin wasn't an all time great ruckman. But he at least tried his guts out. So when he retired in 2017, you knew younger rucks like Sean Darcy would fill his spot.

Then you got guys like Nick Suban, Clancee Pearce and Matt De Boer all being cut at the end of 2016. All 3 were from the 2008 draft. All 3 served 8 seasons.

None of them were picked up as free agents. I would of kept one of them as depth for another season.

I actually didn't watch one minute of this game LoL. I was asleep LoL.

Yep my sleeping patterns hasn't been good for the last 2 weeks.

Yes I put $20 on the swans at $1.30.

Yes I’m confident you will lose money at some stage in the next three weeks.
I am glad you were right.

If I had to choose between swans at the SCG, cats next week at home or demons at the MCG in round 11 on which would be a likely win out of those 3, I would of predicted the swans today based on their bad form

Tough for away teams at the SCG but Sydney are out of form, would love to pinch this one.

I assumed you loved the fact Freo pinched the win? I did too.

Again ... Fyfe was in the squad of 23.

Fyfe was the only bloke left from the dockers 2010 and 2011 swans wins at the SCG

I met an old timer today.

He played 1 game for the pies in 53 before moving to perth and playing with Polly farmer in 56.

He was working at the family business today at circa 90yo at a guess (watching the Freo contest)…….what a legend!
Seriously, ask him if he knows what a flat punt is and how to kick it. Its what Doug Wade and Peter Hudson kicked and they never missed. It's literally a dying skill.

That’s crazy, after the swans outs it was a genuine 50/50 game and we were paying $3.50. I’m managed to have a nice win.

Roll it into Geelong next week as we’re still above $3.

Agree re Tabs.A bit of a kicking horse for many.Frustrating.. yes he is. But when there he gives his all.
Re the delistings, Suban was kept on until 2017.It was a toss up between he or deBoer. I think Pearce was shot from injury.

How goods Lachie Schultz? not many would have got up for that game after getting smashed last week, in fact most would have been subbed off in that game.
But then to follow up with a heap of energy & kick 4, he’s got a massive heart.
We‘re lucky to have him.
In that 1st quarter a Swans player was running towards their F50 with Clark and a couple of others running behind, when Shooter burst past them and caught the Swan cold. I commented to my friends watching with me, that the tackle was all about intent. Shooter wasn’t chasing for show but with a real desire to do it. It’s all a mindset to be desperate that others should copy.
