Battle of the bottom 1/2ers.

The Saints loss really hurting now as we sit 1-2 going into this week V the Demons.

Neale in a moon boot and off for scans suggests some time on the bench IMO. Love to be very wrong here but clearly was hampered after landing in the first 1/4.

Lots of work to do - it can be turned around - but until we become a 4 quarter team we will be in trouble.

We are also still blooding younger players and under 40 gamers so there is time for them to get up to speed - but the worrying part is the fade outs and the inability to stop teams getting a run on, or halting it when they get going.

The Demons arent much chop and the slopes would be full if there was snow - but of course this will be their week to find form lol

Perhaps Stewy comes back but one player wont change the outcome IMO - need the team to find another gear and be able to hold it.

COS, Clohesy, Clark, Knevitt, Mullin all prob get another go.

Need to level off at 2-2.

Word of advice for those travelling from Melbourne. For the umpteen time in the past 18 months V/Line are seeing fit to shut down the line to Geelong. A train will take you part of the way (Wyndham Vale) and you will then be put onto a bus to complete the journey. I suggest you allow 2 hours travelling time.

**** me drunk the Dees will be under the microscope in the media all this week for their insipid start to the season so the Cats need to be prepared for a first quarter assault by them both on the man and the ball led by Gawn we need to take them seriously from the first bounce and snuff out any thoughts they may have of making a game of it really we should win this easily but knowing this Geelong side unlike the team of the mid to late 2000 we will probable play the game at their level and see it be a real slog.Hope I'm wrong and we turn it into a % booster.

Geelongs next group of games is tough ..

Gather round where nearly everyone plays on a neutral ground ..we play a hot home team in the Crows

Then ...Is there anyone hotter than the P&W Swarks atm

Then we play Carlton .. should be a relief but ...

Then Pies, Then Giants...

and I suspect , for the first time for a while , some heat is about to start to fire up on a few in the team….

Big Game this week. We cant afford any slip ups. Thankfully its a home game at KP

We can smack them up and down the ground in the first half alright, but can we run out four quarters? What's going on with us fitness-wise? Is it the mix of footbal n00bs and seasoned veterans causing an imbalance?

I'm not thinking it's fitness I see the answer being a rocket up a few jacks we have to many still in holiday mode or content with their 2022 medal.

Or just the obvious explanation - when your midfield is Holmes, Smith, and a bunch of limited role players and kids, you’re going to be very brittle vs Neale, Dunkley, McCluggage, Ashcroft, et al

You guys will clearly win easily. Melbourne are hopeless and need a new coach.

A few predictions:

1. Chris Scott will advise the players to go hard in the first half and hold an 8 goal lead. Given you have a 6 day break into a crucial Thursday night Gather Round game against Adelaide, on the back of a sapping game in Brisbane, I'd expect Geelong to take the foot off the gas after half time and have a break even second half.

2. Sam DK to have his breakout game in the ruck, comprehensively beating Max Gawn in the ruck.

3. Shannon Neale to have his break out 6 goal game. 4 by half time, assuming he gets up from his ankle.

4. Geelong to rest Danger for the reason outlined in point 1.

For those who catch the train from Melbourne, it's that time of year again when Vline undertakes their annual works on the Geelong line - it means interruptions to the train journey for the next forthright

Geelong line

Due to V/Line annual maintenance and infrastructure works, coaches replace trains on the Geelong Line for all or part of the journey from Monday 31 March to Tuesday 15 April.

Monday 31 March to Saturday 12 April

Coaches replace all trains between Waurn Ponds and Wyndham Vale. Trains will run between Wyndham Vale and Southern Cross.

Extra travel time:
Passengers should allow extra time for the journey as there may be delays when transferring between the train and coach replacement services. Please check the temporary coach replacement timetable before you travel.

View the temporary timetable for Monday 31 March to Sunday 13 April here.

And added info for our friends in Lara who are going to be dealing with a level crossing closure:

Reminder: Due to V/Line level crossing upgrade works, the McClelland Avenue level crossing in Lara will be closed to vehicles and pedestrians from Monday 31 March to Friday 11 April.

A complimentary accessible taxi service will be available around the clock to move pedestrians from one side of the level crossing to the other, via the road detour.

Traffic management and customer service staff will be onsite to provide assistance. Please allow extra time.

Test trains and freight trains are still operating while the works are taking place, so please remember it is never safe to cross the tracks when a pedestrian crossing is closed.

We thank passengers for their understanding during this time.

Our foot off the gas is often like throwing a car directly into reverse though

There are legitimately some posters on BF who believe that the secret is the coach “instructing” a team to get a big first half lead

I have no clue what to expect in this one.
Was confident we'd beat St Kilda and very confident we would beat Brisbane on the weekend.
We just don't look to be a premiership contending team. There is a lot of 2023 about us at the moment. New faces learning their teammates strengths & weaknesses. Going to take longer than I thought.

Melbourne always play us well.
5-5 the H2H over the past ten meetings.

If we lose this, I think 1-3 with the likes of Adelaide/Hawthorn to follow is almost curtains.

You'll draw many raised eyebrows for this take but you're not far off.

Footy is a game of inches sometimes. Last two losses have come with a combined margin of less than three goals. Lose this one and things start to get pretty shaky early in the season. Teams that go on 4-5 game skids in the first 10 games of the season almost always miss top 4. If you called this game a must-win, I'm sure many statisticians and optimists would scoff. But this one really does feel important, given the fixture ahead of us in the next month.

I have faith in the team to get this one done. Having already dropped a game we should've won, that makes the future 'should win' games even more imperative.

Yeah, we're not resting Danger.

Is this a troll?

Tough game, can see the Dees really setting themselves for this after their insipid start.

Their midfield will maul ours, Gawn has no match up, so our backline will have to be ready to rebound, then fast transition into our F50, that’s how we get them.

It’s a must win after dropping the saints game.

Confident of beating the reigning premiers on their own strip?
