Review R4 2025 - Port lose at home to St Kilda lol

Face it the whole years lead up has been smelly and off, they look unfit, this compounded by injuries ,then the intro of a number new players to the lineup , with many kids . Then compounded by the introduction of a new game style that is extremely high risk and requires elite skills to pull off, all this topped off with a dead duck coach who sends a message that no one is really serious about the year.

The game today was an example of all this with a really disconnected gamestyle, many players out of form or looking unconfident, making simple errors, opportunities blown by that extra handball, rather then going more direct.

Despite this I actually saw some signs that I liked , the Lord , Georgiardis pairing looks promising, JHF tried his guts out, Lachie Jones was good but has passed his fumbles to Evans who is out of form.

Everything is so out of sync at the moment with the normal fluency not there with the gamestyle. It was clear that Saints new how we wanted to play and closed us down big time.

At some stage we will need to accept its over in terms of competing for this year at least and then hopefully use the year to expt and bed in a new gamestyle, try out the kids , expt with positions etc. Its been a while since we have been in this position but its close to that time to rip the band aid off and prepare for the future.

Has he told Koch? Koch says we don't rebuild.
Dont think we can trade our way out of this mess lil.
We need a new head coach
A replacement for Dixon
A speedy winger to link play
A replacement for Houston kick.
An angry inside mid
And a defensive mid that falls back behind the ball. Our mids dont run both ends of the ground.
And a couple,of HBF that can run and, kick

Lightning guernsey, aka "Electricity" or "Split Milk" or whatever the f@%k they call it, should stay.

Coz that potpourri of piss is a true embodiment of the whole club rn, a rogues gallery of spivs and squibs, flakes and frauds, phonies and showponies; on the ground, off it, in the coaches box; whoever, wherever, whatever.

Bung hip was a real campaigner today, setting my whole body on fire - back, quad, groin, knee, the works - and it was still less painful than watching that red hot garbage.

Those three quarters was the most AFL footy I've watched in donkeys... and I sure as shit won't be watching any more any time soon. Back to 80s SANFL on YouTube!

Weekend wasn't a total washout, but. Yesterday, I found some mint Maggies merch at My Dead Grandpa. Pretty keen on the vintage vinyl bag. They wanted $350, tho. Yeah nah, that's Tomy Omnibot 5402 kinda money...

Whilst I’m not prepared to give up on our list as we’ve won too many games over the last 3-4 years to be bad over one preseason i am now ready to put a line through josh sinn.

I’d hope for a long time he’d come good but he’s an averaged kick who gets out marked in one on one contests.
Port should not be playing him as a lockdown defender. That is not his strength. I'm not putting a line across him just yet. Sinn is running out of time though, four injury plagued seasons. One good game, two okay games and a poor game today.

Fwiw I think we have some talent and the bones are there.
I'm loathe to judge whilst we have such a sh*t coach.
First and foremost we need an overhaul in the fitness department. We're either too skinny or fat. Look at Houston who looks far leaner and stronger upper body this year having left the club. We are not AFL fit.
We need to draft a ruckman, key back, inside mid. I want to see Dante as first ruck. I don't rate Sweet and Soldo. Sweet was particularly poor today. Won the taps but is pointless when you tap it straight to the oppo.
Wines is nearing the end. Drew has been poor this year.
Aliir is also getting on. Rat is ok. Has actually been not too bad since coming back. Who knows with BZT and back injuries.

I love Aliir. God he gets ****ed over by the maggots though. His decision to smile is admirable. If it was me I’d be giving away multiple 50 metre penalties in fits of rage. He’s got some serious self discipline.

I think we need to be appreciating Aliir more now before he’s gone. For mine he’s on track for the BNF.

That free kick in the first 20 seconds was bs.

Only took us 20 seconds to have a worse call than anything in the crows game we haven’t heard the end of.

What did people make of Sinn and Moraes today?
The scouting reports on Sinn upon his drafting led me to believe we were getting a raking left footed linebreaker with turn of foot.

Granted he’s had injury concerns, but you can’t convince me he’s not Riley Bonner 2.0. Just a complete physical non-entity.

Incredible a team that played in a preliminary final can look so disconnected so hesitant so mistake ridden in such a short space of time takes a special coaching panel to achieve that.

I know we played in a preliminary final but we were never a serious premiership threat.
Even in the betting from memory Hawthorn who finished 8th was shorter to win the flag than we was finishing 2nd.
That first Cats final was the end for us.
A poor limp finals series has continued into a poor and limp 2025 season.
We’re a team that can’t afford any injuries because we lack depth all over the ground.
Our club is in serious trouble.

What did people make of Sinn and Moraes today?
I don’t know what to make of Sinn today (or any day for that matter). Underwhelming is probably the best description. I don’t belie
ve he’s a good defender.
Moraes didn’t have a great game with a few costly turnovers by foot. He’s better than though and I expect him to bounce back

This handball happy game plan when teams have been coming off their man to apply forward pressure and effectively kill that style of play for the past 5 years is laughable.

It works well in pre season games with zero pressure but the truth is we are still extremely stagnant and our players are frozen when we take a mark. So this handball happy game plan is all done off the back of chaos rather than it being a methodical approach. We still go long down the line from our defence 90% of the time and we no longer have a marking presence in that sense.

Today was a brilliant example, watch how the saints move the ball from a kick in compared to us. They are guaranteed an easy outlet kick and at very worst will get to midfield for a boundary throw in. We refuse to present and got hemmed into either long down the line or even out on the full as we saw in that first quarter on multiple occasions.

What did people make of Sinn and Moraes today?
Moraes was quiet but he wasn't worst. Sinn was pretty poor. He got out-bodied by a 3 gamer and his decision making led him down today; there was a moment when he elected to take advantage of the free and bombed it on a 3 v 1 Saints way and as expected the Saints intercepted it.

That's what happens when you overpay for B-graders and get unders for trading A-graders.
