Are you sure she is well remunerated?

I think the remuneration is the reason our game has someone of that.... umm.... 'calibre'...
Her resume is rather impressive including tertiary education.
I’m sure the AFL feel certain obligations toward her.
If you look at the job she’s done in raw numbers it’s hard to deny the performance especially when the AFLs number 1 metric is growth.

Did I read somewhere the game only grew from 526,000 nationally to 528,000 in season 2024?

Hardly the massive growth if true? Maybe she should have went to dealing with community clubs school to further her education. Definitely the most disliked leader of QLD Footy I can remember in my time over last 43 years or so.

Media release said 16% so take that as you will. Understand your feeling towards headquarters so I take that with a grain of salt. I have had no dealing with a Trisha personally as a club representative, just know who she is via media and what’s happened on the past.

I asked an honest question about an award. So just checking if the answer that you’re providing is that:
(1) having tertiary education is impressive, (2) the game of AFL itself has grown by this 16% figure provided (and that is directly contributed to the award recipient), and finally;
(3) If you’re not drinking the HO coolaid then your opinion is null and void.

Did I read that right?

Just providing some context to the snide remarks.
So I need to knuckle drag and bag the crap out of head qtrs to have an opinion? Guess Im in the wrong place then. Merely stated my own experiences with head qtrs. I’ll leave you lot to it then. Bag away

You can have your opinion. No probs. I just wanted to understand the criteria of the award and how the winner rose above and beyond so I could celebrate with you.

Plenty of people have a degree but it doesn't make them smart or understand the job.
Have seen some impressive resumes at interviews but ended up being absolutely useless.
Statistics are unreliable especially if the person presenting them has a vested interest.
A club won an award with quoting a 33% increase in senior footy.
However that year they lost a whole team but gained another.
So you must understand that 78.76% of statistics are made up on the spot.

The growth is mainly attributed to Girls and women’s programs. I would love to see what growth occurred without those numbers.

With Australia’s population growth there would be natural organic growth in most sports one would think.

So let’s give her a tick for growth. Now let’s zero in on other areas.

  • Has staffing improved to control club issues or clubs left to their own devices even more than ever.
  • our major competition coverage is poor to say least in regards media/social media compared to other major leagues across Australia.
  • no coaching interviews
  • no real previews of games
  • no match reports/results
  • rising star award has no relevance or exposure
  • state/representative footy is not consistent
  • presidents meetings at community level non existent

I could probably keep going for half an hour but don’t want to bore everyone on what most people in this forum know.

If it wasn’t for the way our major clubs are set up and run most of our competitions would be a shambles if it was left for any reliance on league headquarters and our fearless leader.

Pretty sure they throw school carnival participation in too. Reality is youth boys is in serious decline. The numbers are bumped up on female and schools and Auskick which is largely not aligned to clubs and is glorified baby sitting.

Qld numbers up 6% prob more based off 2023 (still some afl 9s and Auskick numbers to be added ini think) but that’s off record numbers in 2023 and 2022.

There is no doubt numbers are on the rise. Fri night footy is an indicator of this and no clubs going out of business as result. Some clubs have 7 senior sides ffs incl women.

Junior numbers increasing with new clubs popping up and others growing in size. Just this way club like Coolum JAFC goes from strength to strength and mt creek JaFC has over a half a doz junior teams already.

Not sure how anyone could be critical of Auskick FF. It’s been recognised internationally as one of the best junior sport programs in the world. Rarely have I heard a parent complain about it and those not from afl background are just gob smacked how much better it is than any other junior sport program for that age of kid.

I’d have nfi if Trish is a good operator but she’s the ceo of the whole states footy, not just our corner of qld, plus has a role with afl international and chairs the AFL jimmy Stynes community service award. Throw in a couple of kids under 10 reckon she’d be pretty time poor.
Theres competition managers to deal with day to day stuff I would have thought?

You’re often the voice of reason on here SMY. However in fairness to all involved in our game we’ve grown for 20+ years and Auskick, which I agree is a winner, has also been around for 20+ years. That can’t possibly be the sole criteria for the award as it couldn’t possibly be the result of the actions of one person.

Surely there was something that the recipient personally performed that was ranked above and beyond all other nominations to be named Administrator of the Year. Otherwise it’s just a game growth award, and should be named same.

I mean clubs wouldn’t nominate someone for a life membership at your club unless they did something extraordinary that you could clearly define, was above and beyond other volunteers, and was performed for a defined period of time.

I would say LB that the game has improved on many metrics over the last few years in terms of popularity. Auskick numbers are higher but thats a direct reflection on increased population in SEQ in particular and the attraction and value of the program - it wouldn't have anything to do with winning a prize, agree. Look I don't know what the criteria was or who she was up against but all I was saying is that she has a bloody big portfolio, much bigger than any of her predecessors. Obv one person on here has had good communications with her in recent times (Boxo) who I am going to assume has a connection to Kawana AFC and has been successful getting a new senior side off the ground (more proof of growth ... :) ).
I know there are many presidents on this forum, no doubt each and every one with a vested interest getting the best deal for their football club. That's understandable. But it wouldn't be the mandate of Squires and co - there's is to make the best decisions for football as a whole which in turn will negatively impact some clubs and benefit others. Bloody hard job imo.

There wouldn't be a sports administrator in Qld that would speak negatively about the state of our code in this state.

The conundrum of clubs interest vs the proposed “good of the game” occurs in every sports code across the country. AFL isn’t anything special there.

I just want to separate the health of the game, which is impact by a number of things (including the performance of the Brisbane Lions, both men and women in past 24 months) and someone’s individual performance and impact. Different matters completely.

How many baby sat auskickers end up in club footy? They have no KPI for that. Sure it’s a great program and raises awareness but they need to improve the conversion to club football.

Same goes for school footy. The kids that do play club get counted twice and those that don’t aren’t playing g where it matters.

9s? Many, if not most are existing club members. So another double count.

Youth boys is in trouble across the country. Aflq floated a project pre-Covid to address it and it has not been revisited. It’s easy to get lost in the big numbers but if you dig you will find decreases.

Yes Fri night has grown. Now let’s see it translate to more Sat footy - the main product. None of the clubs I know of in that space have received any active assistance at all to get up and away. It’s all off the backs of volunteers.

You have a club development role that thinks assisting clubs is forwarding emails.

and on, and on, and on!

Think some valid points there Freddy. Actually sounding more and more like a club president than a footy nuffy😂

I think boys footy between the age of 16-20 years of age would be good guage on participation number increase/decrease as that’s where I feel they getting lost to game.

Well obviously the judges thought she was the best of the those nominated (not sure who else was though).

Thats an issue across every sport in Australia though SM - not unique to AFL. And has been for decades tbf - not just because of modern day advances.
maybe some blame needs to lie with clubs themselves? ie what are they doing about making that transition from juniors to seniors more seamless for their players or are they just sitting on their hands expecting these kids to just saddle up the following year "because that's what I did"?

There is barely a football club on the coast without juniors (only 1 I can think of) and in the last 2 decades alone there has been a ballooning of male senior teams as well as an increased strength among the incumbents, all who are playing better levels of footy than they were a decade or so ago.
