heard the boys ran out to start training and Grego ran through the pack like a bowling ball to assert dominance and now the entire squad has entered concussion protocols

Judd did the exact same thing for the eagles that Baker did for Richmond in making sure that the club he had won premierships with were adequately compensated.

Many still do not see it that way, despite getting 2x 200 game players include 1xlegend of the club.

Can’t let go of not getting pick 1 (despite the fact it would have meant no Kennedy).

Jack Graham wins the MAS running test, followed by Liam Baker and Tom Cole.

Talk about setting standards on the track hey 😉

It depends which picks you have in your pocket doesn't it? We didn't have a late teens pick for Baker which is probably what his value was. You have to play with the cards you've got. We folded too easily I agree but at the end of the day the sun goes down, comes up the next morning and we move on.
If part of the deal was the Tigers leaving Allan and Shanahan for us, then it was good deal for us.

• Haven’t seen - Yeo, Chesser, Hough, Petch, Jamieson

• Sheed was doing a bit of work with trainer early including some running but left early
• Long continues to work on his own, mainly running the boundary
• Johnston did the warm up but then worked separately with Cole
• Bazzo did the warmups but I haven’t seen him since
• Hutchinson was doing a bit of running when I arrived but left not long after

Everyone else is doing the bulk of training including the new draftees

Doesn't look good for the standards of current senior players... hope we get to see the extended results
Who are the senior players we have that you'd expect to be at the top of this table IF they were at training today?
Not all players are pre-season champions but perform very very well during the season (Dane Swan comes to mind) just as much as those who perform exceptionally well in the pre-season not translating that into in season.
Such a blanket judgement/assessment on one test about the standards of "current senior players" because Baker and Graham performed well in a MAS test, but hey........

Has there been any splitting into groups yet ? I'm interested to see where big harry trains this pre season. I've seen talk on here trialing him as a KPD but seems like eagles actions in the draft and trade period indicate another year to develop his ruckcraft.

Playing devils advokent..

Isn't Graham supposed to firstly be B grader, but also isn't he always constantly injured? I'm seeing his fitness as a positive.

That said, not sure what someone like Kelly's excuse is, losing to a bloke like Graham. Would love to see some actual times/results of this thing.

Having elite endurance doesn’t always equate to elite football ability. Kind of fits his profile coming in as great trainer, 100% effort guy really. Knew he was a specimen coming in, one for the Chardonnay brigade on game day haha

While I do agree with what I think your general point is (not to shit the bed that Baker/Graham won the MAS + I do see it as a good sign they've shown up in top shape) -

Think to be in that Dane Swan category of average preseason, exceptional during the seasons, you actually have to have been having great seasons! An average preseason looks fine when you're getting 40 touches for fun and your side is contending for premierships.

Of our current list the only one who I genuinely could not care less about their running times is Gov (as long as he stays uninjured) - definite Dane Swan like lack of worry over him in that regard. Yeo similar although keeping half decent paces probably more important to his game than Gov.

Waterman was our only other fantastic performer over 21-22 last season IMO and his elite preparation and fitness was a big part of what got him there. Cripps you're always confident is going to be doing as well as he possibly can, and that's about it for players who I think shouldn't have to at least take note of Baker/Graham's performance.

Not trying to directly argue against you as I agree with the blanket judgement aspect, but I'd at least hope the rest of the list was looking at the Richmond pair and thinking "oh shit, maybe I need to push myself more" like a Kelly, or even as a HBF/leader comparison maybe a Duggan who always does train well looks at Baker and gets competitive about outstripping him. Maybe Cole and/or Hunt makes it their mission to beat those two come end of preseason as part of his defence for their spot (Hunt's injury concerns a factor of course). Or a Clay Hall type looks at Graham and that last midfield spot and thinks this is how hard someone without Harley Reid's talent needs to work to make it.

Again yeah not bedwetting over one run but our on-field performance has been undeniably poor and I do hope some of our players take it competitively and use it for a bit of motivation. Think a player needs a few AAs to back up the Dane Swan vibe.

Not sure what time they started as I didn’t arrive until about 10.00 and they were doing their time trial but they’ve only just finished up now (11.50). Although the last 10-15 minutes has been low key kicking at goal

Some thoughts
• Hewett continues to impress. Looks leaner than I remember
• Harry Edwards has looked pretty sharp
• First look at Graham - think he’s going to surprise a few (myself included). Early doors but seems like a good addition
• Ginbey is our best trainer. Every he does is flat out
• So good seeing Harry Taylor and Bunga on the track as coaches - always seem to be talking to players giving them advice
• Allen is moving pretty well
• No fluoro hat for Harley today but he’s been a little more inconspicuous so far compared to last year
• A contested drill working on pressuring turnover in a tight space got quite willing at stages. Was good to see

The new lads sat out and observed a lot of the session (mainly the contested stuff) but a few early observations on a limited sample size
• Bo Allan looks ready to play AFL and has a good frame to work with
• Shanahan moves well and has a body shape that will suit a KPP
• Gross looks smaller than I anticipated but in one of the handball drills his hands were very ckea
• Grego looks like one of those wiry Gypsy boxers than is harder than you think (kinda like Brad Pitt in Snatch)
• Davis a couple of times showed a good turn of speed
• Champion really is tiny. Very clean with his ball handling though

First day back for the full group so not a totally full on session. Be interesting to se how quickly they b ramp it up
