Don't be surprised if Tassie don't make it in for 2028 if the government changes.
Tassie team is not happening if the new stadium is cancelled. Cant see the new stadium happening if Labor win government, they will have to form minority government with the Greens and Lambie who both are vehemently opposed to it. The AFL dont want a 19th team anyway.

Ha Ha toche! If I may, it takes one to know one... FWIW I think Simson is a very good coach trying to do his best with a shitty list.
A rebuild is painful, I doubt your club and the supporters have the patience and wisdom to back Simpson (premiership coach no less) in.
Doesn’t matter how good of a coach you are if you can’t get all your players to turn up and actively pursue winning a premiership week in week out, a battle he’s been fighting for 3 years.

It's touche...(like douche). Royalty huh - will latch on to anything in the absence of success.
A club without a cup is like a king without a crown.

Is the gameplan a problem of being too complex to get right? Because it’s hard to believe we’re constantly so indecisive about where the ball is supposed to go next and outnumbered at almost every contest

I remember Voss saying something about Carlton having similar issues and when they simplified things they went on their winning run.

Modern footy really isn’t that difficult. All it comes down to is beating your direct opponent and run in waves to support the guy with the ball. We still don’t have enough players that either want to do this, or can’t do it and it leaves us with having to pick through a flooded backline because the ball was moved too slowly.

Senior players have played one way for a decade, or better part of.

Young players are just adapting to the AFL system.

It's not something you can just flick a switch with.

Game plan is probably fine when we have no injuries, removed key players like Flynn mcgovern etc and it turns to shit real quick

Not sure if indecisive and/or slow disposal is the main issue, despite issues with witho, gaff and Edwards on the weekend and even Barrass who takes far too long to long to move it on (would kill for 3 x Long, who I hope they don't coach out of him his urgency to move the ball on).

Speed kills and we genuinely lack of pace across the field and its causes issues with our backs looking up to find our mids who rarely seem to be able to break into space and get the easy uncontested ball which results in pinpoint delivery to the fwds.

Jeremy Sharp is a limited footballer, but would have fitted into our side as a needs filling wingman (i.e. being able to consistently cover the ground at pace).

To this end, Hough should be permanently positioned on the wing and allowed to learn his craft there as he is wasted as a backman in our limited team.

Simmo made a hard choice on Priddis in 2017 and it paid dividends.

Roll forward to 2024 and we just keep on keeping on with Gaff to the overall detriment of the side.

Harley was not tagging anyone? There is a difference between learning to be accountable at stoppages and tagging a player.
Tagging was a bit of a stretch playing very tight, why does simmo always have to have our young guns following the best mid around like a bad smell. Let ginbey and reid have a crack. Mekercher/daicos/sheezel will get tonnes of leeway why simmo have to lock up ginbey all the time

Our stoppage setups still don't look great. However there is a key issue, if you can't win or break even through the middle you just don't win games.

When it regularly gets walked out thats when you lose big. The other big thing is that outside of the run and carry kick out from defence is that Gov is the designated kicker either from there or from a mark 30-40 metres out. If you get it to 30-40 out quick and then Gov can either pass off to a running player or a player in space then it makes a huge difference coming out of the backline.

Even everyone fully fit the club is struggling to field an AFL quality 22/23 to compete. The lack of talent in their prime is killing us. Flynn as much as he was a reasonably cheap trade was a very important piece for the club this year.

The reality is even with decent picks and a couple of late wins we really are missing half a quality midfield worth of drafted players. 50% will fail. The real hope with our current list is Ginbey over the next 3-4 years can actually get to the ball first or be the defensive mid, Culley can make it as a mid and then you have some cream on the outside in Hewett and Reid being inside out. But we're 3-4 years away even in a best case scenario from them being able to shoulder the workload and we're still missing the quality outside players particularly from HB, through the midfield and rotations.

I highly rate Long and Brockman as skilled small forwards who can get up around the midfield a bit with their smarts but we need at least 2 more smaller forwards. Dewar has shown some significant signs of improvement but even if he does make it he's still again 3-4 years away.

The rebuild may have started at the end of 2021 but even though they were my high points with my time at West Coast they are both lacking in the field kicking area, Bazzo has had a terrible set of circumstances and doesn't play above his height so will need a few years and Hough really needs to work on his longer kicking. His personality, intensity, attack on the ball, man and ability to play taller and smaller are great and his short kicking is pretty good however if Burgiel is to make it he is still a couple of years away from being that run and carry defender we need with good skills and we need a truly elite long kick from defence as well.

If we had a fully fit shuey and yeo last year we would have likely finished around the Hawthorn mark or even a touch higher so last year was a bit of an anomaly. I always expected 2024 and 2025 to be the clubs toughest years.

Seems lost out there doesn't he?
The intra club and yesterday he doesn't seem to get good position and looks very flustered.

I think once he gets belief in his body and confidence to break tackles he'll be better.

He's going to get plenty of opportunities in the midfield because we have spots in there, but I said when he was drafted that even if he doesn't come on as a full time mid (given his lack of exposure in that position during juniors) I was extremely confident we would at least end up with Sheppard mkII.

Ginbey has the physical attributes to be a devastating lockdown backman who builds his offensive game once he neutralizes his opponent. With regards to his career, I don't think it should be seen as midfielder or bust. Prime Shepp carried us to multiple GF runs.

I actually thought Jamieson had a really good game in defence. He might not match up to the gorilla forwards but he has the speed, agility and reach to beat out second marking talls.

Also he has a long way to go but Hough looks much better with the ball coming at him, i'm not so certain that wing is a true option for him going forward. If he can keep his kicks inside his ability and not bomb long where he gets way underneath the ball he could very much become a taller (probably for this generation it means relatively the same height) Sheppard shutdown defender for us.

As much as he is likely to develop into a very good forward it's also why I can see Maric playing defence in the future for at least part of his career. He makes great decisions, reads the play exceptionally well and is a great field kick. The club genuinely needs another really good kicking playing from defence. It's a genuine glaring need in modern footy.

It's why I would happily pay well overs for someone like McLuggage in FA.

1.2mill a year is what 1mill a year was 3-4 years ago which is what was 800k a year 3-4 years before that.

Speed kills and we genuinely lack of pace across the field

Yeah...

It looks like we are terribly slow across the field. It was kinda funny watching Freddy torching all our defenders.

I can't believe that we are actually recruiting so many players off the pace given combine testing etc that goes on. Which really feeds into this issue of never being in the right spots and having to chase all day being a structural/coaching issue.

This game showed one thing and that is regardless of anything we do this season Petrucelle/Brockman/Long all need ample midfield minutes over the season. One of them should be in our midfield 5 at all times. We also need in the 22 the second he is fit enough for AFL football

I think for Tyler Brockman id like to see us go the Shai Bolton route and play him majority midfield and rest up forward if his body allows it

One annoyance or aspect we have at present is well Simmos obsession that you gotta have big arms to be a midfielder. Greatest example of this is the Reid/Ginbey conundrum

Based on team balance, we simply have this one the wrong way around

Ginbey NEEDS to be off HBF and swapping around with Elliot Yeo. Harley Reid needs to be 100% full time midfielder who shouldnt even know what the term HBF staands for in football never mind play it

If we go with a 3 of Kelly, Yeo, Reid its much more balanced.

The second Simmo is sacked come Round 15 and we make this change, our form will improve thereafter for sure.
