This team has sucked for years now and all of these kids are growing up in the same loser environment. Coach needed to go two - three years ago but he is who we are counting on to rebuild the club from a position lower than we were at inception.
So, follow the Norf method then?

Can anyone get a video or gif of that angle they showed at half time of Reid wrestling Laird? (Not the coverage footage, the HT angle was far superior).

I think it seriously shows off his strength against a very senior AFL body.

Harley was underneath and being pinned down, he proceeded to grab Laird by the collar and flicked a switch on him, Laird might have been in a bit of trouble if Yeo didn’t pull Laird off the second he did.

No doubt that footage will be going in to some special banks, if it’s as good as I recall. Disclaimer, I might have been Harley drunk.

Like squashface said, Laird left looking like a shook little bitch by the end of that exchange.

"I'm gonna try it on with the new kid getting all the press - show the league how tough I am."

Worked out well for him. 😂

There's a video on youtube of Nate Caddy and Reid mucking around doing one on one marking contests in a park from last year. Despite giving up a considerable bit of height Reid is able to out-body and out-muscle Caddy in like 75% of the contests.

I fear what JHF, Wines, Rozee and Butters etc will do to us in rd1 with Ivan Soldo in ruck

But you could replace that with most mids/rucks this year

Reid just loves the contest. Him and Kelly are the only ones who; even when behind; bust their arse to get to the contest first.
Guys like Yo,Duggan,Cole etc seem happy to be second to the contest then either tackle or corall.Attack you simpletons!!
Barnett should be persevered with.
It’s a real worry when Duggan,Hunt,Kelly and Cole get the ball because they are all shit kick/decision makers.
Hough? Does he hear footsteps?? Mmmmmm?
Forwards are not working hard enough to make space for short leads. It’s like “ let’s all clump together “.
FOR THE 100th TIME.. STOP BOMBING THE BALL INTO THE FORWARD LINE! HAVE YOU HEARD OF A GRUBBER/ CAOS BALL??
Any forward has more chance to beat a two ( defender/ ruckman) on one if the ball is fast and low.
How many years of “THE BOMB” do we have to put up with?

I’m surprised by everyone willing to write off Bailey Williams again. Yes, he had a stinker of a game, but come on - one bad practice game doesn’t undo all of the growth he showed last season. He was arguably our most improved player last year and produced several quality performances.

After training as a forward all preseason it was always possible it’d take a bit of time for him to re-adjust to being a full-time ruckman. He was also up against one of the best and most physical rucks in the comp in O’Brien.

Again, not denying his poor performance today - but I’m willing to wait until we’re a few rounds into the actual season before judging if he has actually regressed.

My takeaways

+ve:
*Harley is as advertised. A Grader at a minimum and loves the rough stuff. Could tell he thrived on it
*Hough is a beauty and a steal for where we picked him
*Long is always in the right spots. Quiet day but is just quality
*Despite the hate, there's something to work with with Jamo imo. Was competitive in the ruck and I thought good again in defence
*Yeo and Kelly are still quality players in this league
*Gov and Barass are exceptional key defenders and we'd lose by alot more without either playing given our midfield woes
*Barnett looked decent in the ruck given his age
*Thought Petch was good despite getting caught cold a couple of times
*seemingly no injuries

-ve:
*With guys like Yeo and Kelly starting in the centre square, we should never be 13-0 or whatever it was down on clearances. Set up more defensively (at least while Flynn is out) Not rocket science
*We concede so many transition scores from kick ins without even touching the ball. What the hell are we doing (or not doing) defensively when we kick a point?
*Im a Williams fan but he was poor today
*as above with Maric apart from that one pass
*Duggan was laughably bad. Maybe trying too hard as captain but directly cost at least 3 goals from bad turnovers
*Cole was generally ok but also cost at least 2 goals from simple errors.Cant have pur senior players regularly doing this
*going to be a hell of a long year again

Again, not denying his poor performance today - but I’m willing to wait until we’re a few rounds into the actual season

Reid is going to be like a black hole, he is going to suck players towards him like a vortex, he loves the physical contest. Other players around him need to play smart, help protect him at times but more importantly, create an option on the outside as players sag off their man and go to double/triple man Reid. He will feed the ball out to them if they are in space.

I am glad he got more time on the ball today.
