Hey all, I need the name of a small forward who is a little unknown but is looking likely. Want to try and cash in on some goal scoring markets and the way we are going, there has to be some tasty odds on the 3rd rung from every team able to fill his boots.

Also, from your more experienced eyes, was the performance against West Coast just the symptom of a side that has gone deep into the finals each year having a slow start, a good side getting dragged down by a crap side that has enthusiasm or West Coast playing out of their skin?

Noah Answerth is an up and coming small forward who kicked out first goal in rd1. Go all in.

Yep we've only been able to beat Melbourne out of all the home tenants there under Fagan.

Out of interest, I just checked: since 2019, these are our losses:

2019: Essendon, Richmond
2020: Hawthorn
2021: ---
2022: Melbourne, Richmond, Geelong
2023: Hawthorn, Melbourne, Collingwood :(
2024: Collingwood

With wins against Melbourne in 2022, 2024, as well as Geelong and Sydney 2024.

So we're 4-10, however, 4 of those losses were by fewer than 10 points (Collingwood twice, Richmond once, Melbourne once).

Reverse a few of those and we're 50/50, with a couple of wins against non-Melbourne tenants.

Nonetheless, I pray we can notch one up this week.

Interestingly, the first year that club ever played more than 2 home and away matches at the MCG (as either the home team or the away team) was 1985.
1985 is before 2024 according to my sources, so it counts!

Reverse all of them and we're just about undefeated at the MCG since 2019. What a team! ;)

Loved X - used to see them a fair bit when they played in Melbourne.

I saw The Clash at Festival Hall in 1982. That’s still the best gig I’ve ever been to. How’s this for a set list!

When The Dead Kennedys toured in August 1983 I saw them consecutive nights, first at Monash Uni and then at The Seaview Ballroom. Amazing live band. Them and The Ramones tie for second place in my gigs ranking.

Orh man, even greater envy. I grew up in a small town in the Qld bush, access to gigs was non-existent. There was only so much Slim Dusty and Chad Morgan one could listen too. My music tastes were considered very odd to say the least. Could talk music all day.

Back to the footy, lol. I went to the last game we played Richmond at the MCG. Down visiting family. Was lucky enough to be in a corporate box. It looked like we had their measure at half time, but man, we got overrun big time. Awful train trip home afterwards.

Not expecting any changes other than Shagga in for Lohmann. Bruce stays sub. We're due a quick start, should have started to develop some improved cohesion. Not sure if the tigers have a tagger that can do the job on Neale, so hoping he cuts them up. Would love to see a dominant win, make a statement. But if it's another scrappy win I'll take it. Ya never know what these young tigers will produce.

Surely Day gets drooped this week and Lions play Fort and Oscar with Nank being a hard matchup we need that second ruck who can actually compete

unfortunately, Cobra Kai is out but McLachlan looked good against the Eagles, so he makes sense to come in.
I like your tactics. Preparing the terrain for a full-on melt post selection tomorrow night.

All of the above.

Out of curiosity, is there anything planned for Melb members in regards acknowledgment of the premiership?

I can recall in 2002, during the 3-peat, that they raised the premiership flag at Docklands prior to start of the the Lions first game in Melb (Rd 4 vs Footscray)

I think there is a decent analogue between us getting Gunston and us getting Day. Look how solidly Gunston did going back to Hawthorn after people here wrote him off. Day just needs a solid two to three month run of it and I reckon he will end up averaging more than a goal a game and 4 to 5 marks a game. He just needs to get up to speed with our way of playing.

He actually did a decent job on McGovern two weeks ago, who only had one intercept mark for the game.

We don't have better tall alternatives IMO anyway. We can't have Gallop and Morris as two of our three tall forwards in big games, that's just too lean and inexperienced IMO (body wise and mentally). Next year might be a different story with an extra years development into them.

Apparently Swann talked to Richmond CEO Shayne Dunn about setting something up to celebrate the Victorian fans but Richmond knocked on the head surely the Lions have something booked for the Brunswick Street Oval on the Sunday before heading home to Queensland

This is the only thing I have heard of.

Captains Run with Premiership Cup on display.

I wonder if the biggest difference with Gunston is Hawthorn using him sparingly, and only playing him close to goal? He is hardly dominating at the hawks, just bobbing up in key moments.

His biggest weakness with us was total lack of pace in the open. We even used him as a spare behind the ball which really wasn't his thing.

As stated earlier there were plans to unveil the flag there but Richmond kiboshed it.
As a Qld member I can say I won't ever forget the support of the Vic Members at the GF. Very passionate support. While you miss out on the home games you do get the major benefit of the MCG Finals. It cost me 000's to get there 2 years running but hey I'd gladly pay again.

I hate shagga as a nickname, its awful. There I said it.
Every player has a nickname. Just because his gives an adolescent giggle, give it away - show him the respect to use his real name. Will McLaughlin.

I am hopeful that Day will be much more serviceable than Gunston. 🙏
