With the AFL attaching point values to picks, but being the AFL only going half way and not ditching picks altogether, is clubs doing these sorts of trades that stuff up everyone else. I've put up my suggestions on how to do it several times of ditching picks for clubs getting points based on ladder finish. Then can trade points from current and next year for trades. It removes the unknown of what you'll get. If we'd traded out 1000 points to Brisbane next year for instance instead of a pick swap, it wouldn't matter if we'd finish 1st or 18th, that's the price paid. There's other advantages as well, but in the main the AFL needs to bite the bullet and ditch picks for points full stop. Stuff it if it's harder to explain in 20 seconds to punters.
How does this work then, does it become an auction type system? Who decides which player is auctioned off first?
I'm genuinely curious, I don't really rate the draft in it's current format either.
The entire top 10 is more or less known a few days prior, these guys all chat.So many leaks must be happening for GWS to know a bid on Green was expected at pick 5. It’s quite farcical.
Who do you want with Ports picks MP?
Do you see merit in a 16 and 18 for 10 and 22?
Or keep the status quo
Why bother in a supposedly even draft from 6,7 on.Everyone judging this deal is still looking at the an unfinished result. We're most likely doing this to move up the draft further.
We'll do more pick swaps yet.
Last year was so different! We had a pick well inside the top 10- with the potential of drafting 1 of Smith, King, Rozee, Caldwell. I just don't see the same talent level when it comes to us at pick 12. Good on us for getting 3 first round picks but I don't feel anywhere near as excited as last years draft.
The positive is we only gave up one decent player this year to get those picks. Last year we sold the farm so had to nail the draft.
I am still more concerned about the fact this current coach may get re-signed if we scrape in to 8th and lose first week of finals for another 3 years of wasting any talent we do happen to have on the list.
Its the second round they don’t like which is fair enoughAnother pick swap has dropped in last half hour. Another club saying 2020 not much chop

This allows Hawthorn to trade their 2020 first for a 2019 first.
How?This allows Hawthorn to trade their 2020 first for a 2019 first.
How?
How?
However, it faces a battle to land the selection because, under AFL rules, to trade out a future first-round selection it must retain its other picks in that draft.
The Hawks traded their 2020 second-round selection during the exchange period, so would need to replace that to be allowed to move their future first-round pick.
The hawks want to get another first this year (trade out next years first) to do that they needed that 2020 second rounder as they had already traded theirs out.Another pick swap has dropped in last half hour. Another club saying 2020 not much chop
