So our midfield is that bad, but just adding Zac Bailey would make us a huge difference?

I dont think Bailey would have the same impact if he was playing for us. He has a tonne of class around him and has been able to slip under the radar a bit while clubs try and stop Cameron, Neale, Zorko, Lyons, Berry etc. Certainly a player of the future but I feel sometimes young players look a million bucks in top sides but if they are relied on to carry more weight like they are at clubs down the bottom like North and Adelaide, they never look as good.

What’s the real difference between forfeiting a pick and blowing it on a dud?
The difference is that you actually get to try and pick a decent player. Would you rather have a half court shot with a basketball for a million bucks, or just walk away and say you would probably miss anyway?

I get that we actually need more than just one or two more good players, we're like a dozen guys short. In particular we need 1-2 pointy end of the draft superstars
I think people on here forget that Petracca was drafted in 2014 and it wasn't until his 6th season he averaged more than 20 possessions.

Their midfield is also coming from almost exclusively top 4 picks
Petracca - pick 2
Brayshaw - pick 3
Oliver - pick 4
Jackson - pick 3

The way I see it is that we have just taken the wrong options too many times aside from 2020 and 2021 drafts. We have picked up guys like Gallucci with first round picks that wasn't even highly rated compared to others. We needed more midfield class at the end of 2017 and we pick u a small forward. Then in 2018s draft which was super strong we pick up Jones and McHenry with our first two picks, let's be honest who expected those two out of all the names in that draft to be selected. I was dumbfounded by the Gallucci, Jones and McHenry pickups they just didn't make sense. It's almost as if this club is blind to the importance of big bodied/tall midfielders. Fed up with Ogilvie, he has set this club back for years and yeah the 2020 and 2021 drafts look good but what about the previous 5???

How many years for EH, Fog, Jones, McHrenry etc on the list?

What about the senior players with deficiencies?
Not every player makes it. EH is done, Fog I would persist with for this season under the new fitness coach. Jones and McHenry need 5 games to see if their output has increased, so far it isnt too bad. They are both only at the start of their 4th seasons.

No point in dumping players then replacing with pick 75 and 93 in the draft... This season Davis, Frampton, EH, Possibly Tex and Sloane, Seed if his issues persist, Borlaise, Parnell, Newchurch could find themselves off the list before Jones or McHenry

Clearly each year we have been moving on seniors with deficiencies

So it’s not 1-2 years then

Or is it the patience of our supporters?
Supporters in 2020 when the club announced a proper rebuild: Rebuilds take at least 5 years!
Supporters in 2022: 'y are we still inconsistent?'

Having Laird and Tex back over the next couple of weeks cannot be understated, this type of quality experience is critical to a team that is the least experienced in the comp. I think we win round one with Tex playing instead of Berg and at the very least put up a significantly better performance against Collingwood in round 2, given that we still managed 51 I50s. I haven't seen significant improvement from last year just yet, but it's also round 2 haha

Harry McKay also took until his 5th season to really start dominating games (this is why Berg and Fog are a bit of a concern).

And how about the senior players who have deficiencies or the guys who have been on the list for 5 years and are going nowhere or the first round picks going into their 4th year?

You need to ask the club for more material.

"We needed more midfield class at the end of 2017 and we pick u a small forward." - actually, we took Fogarty and McPherson in 2017

"It's almost as if this club is blind to the importance of big bodied/tall midfielders"

Who are the big bodied / tall midfielders we should have taken with our picks from 2016 to 2019?

I can't understand what's happened to Berg. He had a great few weeks last year, and then has turned terrible since.

Fog certainly needs to have a more consistent impact, make more leads and increase his presence. I think his intensity is too low, he jogs from spot to spot, rather than actually running.

A whole lot of hindsight going on here.

Come again re Gallucci, he was as highly rated as anyone taken after him, Eastern Ranges Captain, AFL Academy, Co-Captain Vic Metro, good Nationals Carnival, one of the top performers at that years draft combine...

Twomey had him going to us in his final Phantom Draft.

Both Chayce Jones and Ned McHenry were 2 players that were linked with us quite a way out from the draft also and both went around the mark they were expected to go.

And they are all duds

You might think so...

Gallucci is the only one that fits that category at this point.
Give it time. Jones the midfielder is playing back pocket and looks lost at times. McHenry the midfielder runs around a lot like an angry dog up forward but makes poor decisions and average disposal and doesn't kick goals.
