Establishing the pre-game ingestion is the trick. That depends basically on how believable the story is, along with how much he registered, etc.

Rules and penalties here is different from AFL 3 strikes rules coz of how and when and by whom the tests were done/conducted?

Aka game day, testing for Cocaine etc and they only test for such substances on game day?

Then the penalty eventually applied is max 3 months or 1 depending on player’s defence?

Yep - this was an Asada/sports integrity test. And the penalty will be determined by that framework. He will likely seek to establish he took the Charlie previous to game day.

He will also cop a strike under the afl illicit drug code too. If it was a second he would cop the 4 game suspension which is likely worse than a beautifully timed 1 month holiday whilst on holiday. But burden on him to establish the non game day ingestion.

As for Goodwin - I still cant get over how he allowed the Maynard/Brayshaw matter to dominate his public statements in the week leading up to Melbourne's first final. Running with emotion and anger is a very poor way to prepare.
