on the Fox shows tonight there was no mention of the co-captain in Duggan (who feels like the foremost captain anyway, having more leadership experience). They are carrying on as if Oscar is sole skipper or something, ridiculous skew. First Crack the other night also seemed unaware that Simmo sent him back several times during the darker patches of 2023 when the ball just wasn't going forward and to get a star like him involved, it ain't a new move from an Eagles coach. Not to mention the context of last week where we lost our rucks and despite no impact he didn't pinch-hit (he isn't good enough anymore to be put in cotton wool and excused from that emergency task anymore), and therefore this week's move feeling a reaction to that from both player and coach to ensure he is more involved.

a lot of Eagles fans would've been glad to trade Oscar and Waterman at the end of last season for lucrative return. Great players when firing, but you can't trust their bodies, they aren't durable players that take the field every week.

I’d say the obvious play is that Duggan remains as the sole skipper…

At this rate Duggan is struggling to keep his own spot. Neither captain was in the best 16 on the ground on the weekend, we're jamming blokes in to the backline, including now playing Harley down there.

Both captains have a lot to think about tbh.

Surely he stays. One of west coast’s best talents.
He is getting offered less money, less years by the Eagles than both Brisbane & Hawthorn.
That's with the Eagles having plenty of cap space...
Imo it's obvious WCE are trying to force Oscar Allen to leave, the compensation pick is will be worth more the player Allen is.

It's the same situation with Ben McKay & North except North apparently didn't even have a deal on the table for him.

Not sure why Hawks so keen on him. We already have an injury-prone KPF in Lewis. Who wants 2 injured KPFs sitting on the bench for large chunks of the season?

This is why. Hawks are 7th for forward half intercepts but 14th for scores from front half intercepts. Hawks defend their entries well, but still lack fire power.

Of all the dumb things WC have done in recent years, (reportedly) offering Allen less money than he has been offered to leave isn't one of them. Offering him massive unders would be a dick move, but the onus is not on every club to immediately pay their players what they are offered elsewhere. Otherwise Carlton would be paying De Koning $1.7m. I didn't love the Barrass trade (more so the dragging it out than the end result) but letting a 29 year old move on for a first round pick instead of extending him beyond age 32 like he wanted was the right move.

I would like Allen to stay, but he has also missed all of 2022 and half of 2024 in the last three seasons. Was great in 2023 and pretty good last year after he came back, but hasn't exactly set the world on fire so far this year. The idea that WC should just pay him what he wants because they have cap space is ridiculous. How has it worked out for Carlton, St Kilda, North over the years paying Brad Hill, Zac Williams, Jared Polec etc. like they are superstars? WC need to use cap space to improve the list. If Allen was at Hawthorn and talking to WC, people would be saying 'well he's worth X, he might have to accept X or under to stay, WC will need to offer more than X to pry him away'.

It's the same situation with Ben McKay & North except North apparently didn't even have a deal on the table for him.
It isn't. North wanted to keep McKay but he's not worth the contract he was offered and pick 4 is too good to pass up. A top 5 pick is very attractive to WC yes.

Remains to be seen what the offers are for Allen. I don't think Hawthorn and Brisbane are interested in trying to buy Allen with a ridiculous offer. I think it will come down to where he wants to be football wise more than anything, but if clubs want to throw $1m a year at him that is their prerogative.

Who was the opposition captain Adam Simpson met with, when he was the coach of West Coast?

He admitted this on AFL360 tonight.

Cripps would be the obvious one, but there could be a few.

I wonder if it was David Mundy in 2016 when he lost the captaincy to Fyfe.

Simmo had previously stated he tried to get Mundy across as a coach towards the end of his career.

We were also interested in Cogs in 2019 but he wasn't captain, but wonder if we had a dip in 2020 when things went south for him in the hub.

not sure if true, but why would mitchell and oscar be having coffee and chats at a swanky cafe....why not meet at mitchells joint or somewhere neutral joint like Andy Gowers house away from prying eyes. seems a bit sneaky, stupid or slack

So its all over the media and puts pressure on the eagles to up their offer

Reckon Oscar would do well not to play until he's fit to run. Fwiw, Eagles offer of four years is nowhere near as bad or lowball as it's made out to be.
Hopefully we doing the right thing considering we'd have to give him a longer contract than four years! And more coin. I'm 50/50 ( about the pursuit ) )but I have trust in what the club is doing.

Not sure if this is a popular/unpopular take but you've got 6 months of off-season to meet with players/coaches - Don't do it during the season, and if you are going to do it, do it during the mid-year bye. If it's all open slather then great, but some coaches don't have a bye in round 4 to be able to go and meet players.
What difference does it make? Footy players have a ton of down time, using an hour or two to get a coffee impacts him playing how?

Or maybe neither care enough to try and hide something that no one really should have any issues with.

Anyone sooking about an OOC player looking to make the right decision for his career needs to grow up.
