Absolutely nothing to apologise for. As I said, the position of the club, their knowledge and who was at any meeting are the missing pieces of information here. See my post above if you need clarification.
Surely you understand why I formed the view on Oscar I have, and now likely share your disappointment in his CONDUCT as captain? right?

Maybe not an apology, but certainly an acknowledgement that what I said and believed was prescient and not incoherent ranting of a crazy person.

Don’t think I ever said your posting was the incoherent rambling of a crazy person? I asked you on what basis you formed an opinion.

As I said in my above post, the details of any meeting are crucial. If it turns out Oscar blindsided the club and met with Mitchell without the knowledge of the club then it would appear your opinion has a strong basis.

If we are eyeing off a top 3 FA pick for him and the club gave their blessing or even encouraged any meeting then there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

I think if the CEO didn't know anything about it, it counts as being blindsided.

As I said, if it’s proven Oscar himself met with Sam Mitchell and no one at the club knew he should stand down immediately as captain and we should put games into Shanahan instead if his body ready.

This smells of when Joe Daniher went to meet with Tom Harley for a "coffee" when he got caught Joe said "it was just a catch up with a friend" lols

6 months later he asks for a trade to Sydney

Who do you have as next captain?

If true it's a scummy thing to do behind the clubs back Joe Daniher did the same with us

I’d say the obvious play is that Duggan remains as the sole skipper…
Like you said he's needs to step down immediately as captain if he went behind the clubs back. All this does is put doubt into the minds of the youngers when they see the captain meeting a rival coach they be thinking "if the captain wants out then why should I be committed long term" sets such a bad example.

Not sure if this is a popular/unpopular take but you've got 6 months of off-season to meet with players/coaches - Don't do it during the season, and if you are going to do it, do it during the mid-year bye. If it's all open slather then great, but some coaches don't have a bye in round 4 to be able to go and meet players.

(apologies to Martin Niemöller)

1st they came for James Frawley and I was outraged by the unfairness of the decision to the rest of the competition as to the compensation given and I spoke out.

Then they came for McKay and I was outraged by the unfairness of the decision to the rest of the competition as to the compensation given and I spoke out.

Then they came for Oscar Allen and I was outraged by the unfairness to the rest of the competition at the compensation given and I rejoiced at the fairness of the compensation and wisdom of the AFL and I kept my trap shut.

The AFL's rules around what you can and can't do outside trade week are a bit of a joke.

Oscar Allen can meet with whoever he likes AFAIC and technically Sam Mitchell was an assistant coach at WC in Allen's first year, but if a current player meeting with an opposition coach is OK then just let it be a free for all.

The other strange thing, is it's the second time that Sam Mitchell has done this that we're aware of, where other clubs have shown interest - put in enough work to a point where the media have ran with a story - and it's almost prompted Sam to go and meet with the player. I don't even know if I can be critical of Sam for it, like good hustle.

Captain of the footy club and speaks to a rival coach during the season.

If I were WC I wouldn't be happy about it. I would make it very clear to Allen "is your future at WC as captain or you thinking of leaving? if you are thinking of leaving then we strip the captaincy from you"
Can we stop pretending like the Eagles do know exactly what's on offer should Allen leave.

The AFL is a competition and he represents his club. If you can leverage a personal connection to attract a star FB or FF or whoever else to your club then you wouldn't be doing your job if you didn't. Adrian Hickmott is also an assistant at Hawthorn after spending a long time at WC. The two clubs have a bit of off field history with Simmo being an assistant to Clarkson, Mitchell coming here for two years, Darren Glass was there for a while etc.

TB made sense as he's 30 this year and would have been highly unlikely to ever play in another flag for WC. Allen just turned 26 and is younger than the 3 guys we just brought in. He's got plenty of footy ahead of him and if he doesn't want that to be at WC then better to know sooner to plan for it.
