Does the Board at the company you work for consult you and ask for your permission before it executes on decisions it makes? If you walked into a Board meeting and told them all your grievances do you think they would reverse any policies or decisions to appease you? What do you think the shareholders would think if they found out the Board was allowing itself to be over ruled by mid level employees and was changing company policy to pander to their petty self interested grievances? This is not the way that high performing companies run their show. The players whingeing need to be very firmly put in their place and told they are paid to play football and have no input on Board decisions.
Boards are there to make and deliver high level strategy. They should have no say in operational decisions

I remember all these things too.

I also remember when we drafted Chris Judd at pick 3 because he was the best available despite people saying we were stupid for not taking Graham Polak who went at 4 because he was from WA and we needed a key forward.

And I remember when Michael Braun and David Wirrpanda and Adam Selwood and Luke Shuey and Will Schofield and Shannon Hurn were drafted here as teenagers and never left. Now top 10 players from WA want out.

I remember how poor we were under Ken Judge and how he was let go after two years. Then how after 12 years of club legend John Worsfold we had become stagnant and he was let go. It took losing 7 out of 9 games in 2021 then three historically bad seasons to get rid of Adam Simpson. And that was after backing him in only to backflip on that last year.

I remember players that I liked as a fan that were part of poor/middling teams that were traded out or delisted. Sorry Andrew Donnelly or Paul Symmons or Jason Ball, you aren't part of the plans.

I remember how we were conservative at the trade table, valuing high draft picks and doing pick swaps and player trades in the 20s and 30s. Trading 12 and 28 for Tyson Stenglein as a final piece was as adventurous as we got. Not a chance WC in the 2000s would not have paid what we did for Tim Kelly or Liam Baker. We were always going to let TB go under contract, were never going to play hard ball over Kelly, and I hate to think what will happen if HR ever requests a trade. Where is the arrogance to leverage low ladder position into getting Chad Warner for a steal?

I remember Rowan Jones (not exactly everyone's favourite player but undeniably a good guy) going from vice captain to out of the side for a year to fighting his way back in by getting 50 touches for Claremont.

The club has definitely lost its way. 2000-01 we were dreadful for a season and a half. 2008-10 poor for 3 years with a slight dead cat bounce in the middle. 2013/14 we just sort of Essendoned it. Not really bad or good enough to talk about. We've been hot garbage for 3 and a half seasons now and have won 12 of the last 79. If can scrape together 5 wins this year that will be 17 of the last 100. Is anyone genuinely confident that the club is close to turning things around? Each to their own but I am less confident now than I was 1-2 years ago. I hope I am wrong but it feels like now is 2000 or 2008 rather than the upswing after a couple of years of shitness.
Fair enough. I think we both will have a better idea by the end of the year. I do think adding a new coach and totally reinvigorating the list is the sort of thing you'd want to see rather than same old same old 'credits'. (This weekend's team is a good example.)

And, in the meantime I'm absolutely fascinated to see how the new chapter develops - and without a dark cloud of gloom hanging over me. But each to their own.

No, my board doesn’t get involved because me or anyone else decides to talk to a competator. Nor does it sack people just because it doesn’t like something, has a feeling about someone or if someone is whinging.

Poor companies behave like that and very much not known as high performance companies.

But then again, where I work mid level employees don’t earn $1m a year. There are unions though and would love to see how it would go down if someone gets sacked because they had a coffee with a competitor.

False equivalence, a leader and captain of a rock bottom " elite " sports team coming off the worst performance of his career being seen speaking to a rival coach a few days later is not good enough. Dropped at the very least for 1 game would be an adequate and controlled response.

Oscar to kick 6 goals this week and next.

Also probably shouldn't have accepted the captaincy if he had any inkling about leaving for more money and years.
Unless he was 100% committed to the club he should have just said he doesn't feel comfortable being a captain and would prefer someone else in the role or let Duggo do it solo.
He wants the extra money. Clearly all he really cares about. There is nothing wrong with that, but him saying otherwise is what is frustrating a lot of people. Just own it.

You don't know if this is true. Oscar missed a flag in his first season, and has played just one final (a loss), in the next 7 seasons.

I don't begrudge Oscar leaving for success, and wouldn't begrudge him if he was leaving for money, give our deal seems to be well under what other far more successful teams seem to be offering.

Other teams pay overs to lure quality free agents.

99% of the time a player wont move for the same or less money unless family pressures are a factor.

So it isnt surprising our offer is less in both $ and years. And we know everything about his injury history and current state.

Opposition clubs dont have that detail and are being optomistic in luring him across. Then the medical is needed and then what? They then realise why our offer is what it is.

In the meantime the media do what the media do. Sensationalise, overreact and throw mud for clicks.

Gov with the juicy protentional move to Freo in 2018.

He met with Ross Lyon at his managers house.
This article reminds me of that episode of South Park where all the guys admit to whacking it in front of another guy too.

There are non compete clauses in employment contracts. You leave you cant work for a direct competitor for a set period. Which would also include talking to them.

So the real world does have legal means to stop employees interacting with direct competitors, predominately to protect IP and strategy.

And if an employee breaches that clause they may be sacked and then sued. It happens.

I just have this feeling the club is very ok to lose OA to FA

With Waterman and young stocks of Ried, Jobe and JW, maybe the club sees the value of pick 3. After all the clubs knows we will finish 17

Pick 2 and 3 allows us to bring in a combo of Warner Freddy Sharp and Curtin

If we could bring in Warner plus Sharp/Freddy, that would be awesome and go along way to completing our midfield

What’s the point of having OA & Waterman if the ball doesn’t get in there

OA has only ever player 1 full season too so doesn’t deserves 7 years

Also the sooner we get rid of this entitle culture at the club the better. I believe OA is part of this along side his 18 premiership mates and Kelly

You mean the union like the AFLPA?

They were the ones hard pushing for FA, this whole situation is because of FA

I wonder if Chris thinks Joel Selwood or Luke Hodge would be seen meeting publicly meeting with a rivals head coach at round 4 during their tenures as leaders of their club?

Yep this it , WCE at our lowest in clubs history , okay for C Scott to be all matter of fact etc but Geelong get so many advantages with their location , club of choice advantages and are ruthless traders because of it.
Made me spew .

Throwing out the generational gap and using 1987 was just pure waffle.

By the way Chris modifying our behaviour because of other peoples perceptions is part of living and working in a community, and its amplified when when you have a leadership position. Its a requirement of the role you simple man.

No club has manipulated the system more than Geelong has over the years (with the AFL's blessing as well).

Chris Scott dd the same thing in 2012.

Port Adelaide has slammed Geelong for its public courtship of out-of-contract midfielder Travis Boak.

Cats coach Chris Scott, captain Joel Selwood and Brownlow medal winner Jimmy Bartel were seen arriving in Adelaide Airport on Sunday to present the case to the former Geelong Falcons junior that he should move back East.

Who cares.

Should we not have met with Patrick Cripps in 2021?

I think it's super weird for Sam to travel across the country to visit Oscar when gather round is in 10 days, but whatever.
