There were a few calls, like that one, that left me shaking my head.

I'm beginning to wonder if the dissent rule has given some of the umps a sense of being untouchable, which influences their decision making at times.

It's handy on a Friday night game if one team is getting too far ahead and people might start tuning out.
Pull out the old dissent rule and a 50m penalty for a certain goal.

Because a small section of ex-players - notably Russell and Taylor - are huge US sports fans. So they feel the need to infect the calls with that garbage. You like those sports fine (I don't, at least not those ones), but footy doesn't need it. You add the bizarre insecurity that seemingly everyone associated with sports media has for anything from overseas, and the parasite gets spread.

Think it was Russell who first started shouting "from the paint". Should be executed by firing squad for that alone.

I see it as a symptom of the whole 'make the commentator the show' policy. They're just bringing in new and edgy things to spice up the game. At least they think they're being clever and cool.

When they run out of Americanisms, they find some soccer things to say.

Have they mowed the field cross pattern in a curving/snaking type pattern rather than the usual squares?

I remember that innings well.
Everyone cracked it because he came in the squad for Steve Waugh.
Turned out it was a fantastic decision.

By the end of the series he was nearly everyone's favourite player.

It could easily have been over for Roy and his good mate Haydos 23 years ago when their boat sunk early morning on the South passage bar kilometres from shore in shark country,given a life on 23 one could say and out now sadly 4 short of a half century.Great character loved the way he played the game

Fremantle showing what i already knew - there is 1 outstanding team in the comp - and the rest of them ( compared to Melb ) are no good whatsoever

And the only thing that the teams finishing 2nd 3rd and 4th on the ladder after the home and away have got - is potentially losing the GF by a margin in excess of 100 pts - that is the only thing of note that they have got any chance of achieving

And if Melb later in the season beat us at KP - then i wouldnt mind seeing the Demons win all 25 games this year -that would be exciting and they are very good to watch

Well really the last thing the afl is interested in is making it a better environment for players or viewers. What do you expect?

Yup was just running and went down. Initially the commentary thought he did an ankle and on the replays conversation changed to achilles based on his reaction etc.

Not sure if there's anything confirmed at this stage, but believed to have ruptured his Achilles tendon - not sure if it's the same one he ruptured in 2018
