Off topic as it's Essendon related but why the hell have our VFL team got two byes in a row?? It's not that hard to fixture them with few weeks difference is it? How does that help players coming back? Absolute rubbish

VFL sides always get byes when the AFL side does. And there’s no VFL during Gather Round.

VFL scheduling is one of my pet peeves, it makes little to no sense

I agree with the call, though I'm curious to see if it holds up to the challenge.

I assume the Tigers will challenge the high contact part given that Mansell pushes him under the arm

Basically the grading system doesn't really work for this kind of thing
don't see this being a problem. the guidelines are written in such a way that this is still high contact:

Contact shall be classified as High or to the Groin where a Player’s head or groin makes contact with another Player or object such as the fence or the ground as a result of the actions of the offending Player.

I think it'll just be a big hearing about duty of care/no other way to contest the ball, etc etc.

we had multiple players successfully appeal decisions based on technicalities last season, so it's hard to have confidence that all loop-holes have been shut off, but I think the difference between Mansell and some of the pre-season incidents is:

A) the memo, obviously and B) Mansell is not in a marking contest.

I think most of the pre-season incidents took the form of two different groups of players ended up in the marking contest, and so you've got the push and shove happening in group (a) and you've got the players in group (b) joining the marking contest, and a player in group (a) gets pushed into a player in group (b).

Now, post-memo, I expect eyes to be cast on those type of marking contests (see: Vandermeer & Lalor) but there'll be cases where the player will successfully argue that they had their eyes on the ball, they were contesting the mark & they didn't know other players were joining the marking contest.

In this case, Mansell isn't going for the mark. To me, anyway, he's setting himself to be front and centre for the crumb and trying to get his opponent out of the way. That's all well and good, but I think he's gonna struggle from a duty of care point of view because...he obviously knew he was pushing his opponent in the direction of the marking contest and so that becomes a duty of care thing.

(sorry there's bad words in this one but the angle is good)

still, these things can surprise, it'll be interesting to read the arguments presented

I know I bang on about this a lot, but I am very envious of how Ross Lyon has gone about his time at StKilda and building that list, specifically his prioritisation of running power:

Day 1, he says we are a team of runners.

Since then they have drafted: Wilson, Phillipou, Wang-Mil, Owens, Windhager, Travaglia, Hastie, Garcia and are right into Bergman.
All of them are tall athletic types who are either 6min 2krs or very athletic. They also added Collard and Henry for even more pace.

They are going to explode, and going after Bergman is right in their wheelhouse.

They are building a point of difference.
And what are we building?

See what direction Rosa takes the list I imagine, this off-season the type of player drafted seemed different to the types Dodoro would usually take, if Rosa brings in another half a dozen or so draftees that'll give us a bit of a sample to start to see what he's looking for in them.

What was Rosa picking, public school kids from bad families who we think won't be able to turn into anything and that were so far down our big board we were never interested in taking them with any of our picks.

I thought this new hank persona was a bit of a joke one, is it not? Is this the new, real hank?

It's that rare time of year when I go severely against the '**** Carlton' grain and hope for a big Blues win tonight.

Pies can go suck a big fat one.

Up the Baggers!
Ban worthy

I do agree, it’s a textbook example of having a plan, identifying fits and building around that. In that sense, they’ve done a great job. I’ll give him credit too considering he’s changed his style over the last few weeks which I didn’t think he had in him.

In saying that, it’s St.Kilda. They won’t win anything
