Time to roll this thread over into the 2025 version

So with that in mind, how about some predictions for the upcoming season which shapes to another very competitive year - no clear premiership favourite imo and 15 teams with legitimate aspirations for a top 8 finish. (Unfortunately we’re one of the three that don’t have those aspirations along with North and Richmond)

Premier - GWS
Runner up - Brisbane
Top 8 -
Brisbane
GWS
Carlton
Fremantle
Sydney
Gold Coast
Port Adelaide
Geelong

Hawthorn - 9th

Bottom 4 -
West Coast
Essendon
North Melbourne
Richmond

Brownlow - Caleb Serong
Coleman - Jeremy Cameron
Eagles wins and ladder position - 8 wins/15th
Eagles B&F - Liam Baker

No Nic Newman is a reasonable blow for Carlton. Sam Walsh's injury struggles seem to be continuing as well.

Feel like they've got the list to contend but they just don't seem to be able to piece it together.

Sydney will have a chip on their shoulder and a point to prove after another grand final failure, I reckon they'll be in the mix again with a fire in their belly.

As for our friends down the road, with the improvements they've made to their list you'd think anything below top 4 will be a failure for them and would be the end of Longmuir as well.

I'm going to enjoy death riding the Hawks, I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels their list is very overrated and I'm backing them to miss finals.

Brownlow: Bontempelli and Daicos feel like safe bets but after last year's farce who knows?
Coleman: back to back for Hogan

I don’t normally predict the season ahead, but I’ll throw my hat in the ring.

Luke Sayers cleared with them saying his account was hacked.

....5 mins later he stands down haha nothing suss there.

I love how he steps down effective immediately even though the 'AFL cleared him of any wrong doing' what a crock of shit this league truly is.

How did the AFL clear him of wrongdoing? Did they tell him to drop his pants for a side by side inspection?

The forward line is Freo's Achilles heel - I don't see any universe where they fix it enough for Treacy to win the Coleman yet they don't make finals.

Waterman did well last year and we were no where near the finals.

I’ll fess up though, I did a ladder predictor and copied it straight into here. Freo won 14 games and were still a game out of the 8, which is unlikely in an actual season.

One learning from having a deeper dive into some teams is that Essendon appear the likeliest to fall. Stringer played very well in a lot of their wins. He kicked 5 against us in a 30 point win, 4 against Freo in a 1 point win, 3 against the saints in a 4 point win (including the match winner) and 4 against Richmond in a 2 goal win.

They also had 14/23 players play over 95% of the season. They have the 5th hardest draw.

Further to this, Richmond lose 4 out of their top 10 goal kickers from last year, not including Balta who will be out for 5 weeks at least and then will need a few weeks in the VFL. This doesnt include Lefau, who is coming back from an ACL who I’d say would be due mid year.

They lose Daniel Rioli who played every game and led RFC in Brownlow votes, BnF votes and was second in coaches votes.

They lose Baker (18 games) who was their 3rd leading goal kicker 😳

They lose Shai (22 games) who was their leading goal kicker and led in coaches votes. I’d also say he was a major contributor in all their wins last season.

They’ve replaced these players with kids, who may show glimpses, but won’t be able to replicate one of those missing senior player.

I gave the Tigers 2 wins and I believe that was generous.
