In their chosen sport it’s not even close.
Kane has achieved way more than Nick with less talent.

What? He was 3rd in the norm smith voting 😂

Frog - I think you are one of the best on this board. But you are waaaay off here.

Tennis is an individual sport. Kane Cornes was one of 22. His premiership should not be compared to Kyrgios accomplishments. Kyrgios made it to the Wimbledon Final and lost to the Joker who is a top 2 ALL time player in that sport.

You quote his 4 All Australians. Nick was ranked top 22 3 times in his career.

How many times did Kane make the All Australian Squad? Because Nick was the equivalent and top 44 another 3 years.

And you've always got one, it's always a poor one, but hey we can't always win can we
Not sure why you stagger from view to view - it's got a real Wayne energy. I like it, but it feels very inconsistent.

Still, antagonise folks, it makes for good reading in the off season. Maybe it seems a bit like you sometimes just want a response and it's hard to know if you're genuine - but what else have we got to talk about?

Fancy someone who backs Wayne almost every time there's a discussion, coming up with this doozy.

Not sure how I've staggered, NK has had a career that could've been so much more, but to call him mediocre shows a lack of depth in your knowledge..... which comes as a shock to no one.

Kyrgios at one point was the 13th best player in a sport played all over the world.

Was Kane ever the 13th best player in a game played in 3 states of a small populated country?

Nick spent about 2 years in the top 22, Kornes has 2 all australian guernseys, pretty similar I'd say. There'd be dozens of tennis players with Nick's record that nobody would remember because they didn't give great pressers and/or social media messaging.

Yep, a VERY small portion of total top level tennis players on either side.
There's only about 1300 professional tennis players at any one time, and a quick google says only about 200 of those can make a living directly from the sport. The rest are supported by government, donors, teaching, etc.

Kyrios should be proud he's made a living, and that he's one of seven Australian men to have won a grand slam doubles title in the last three years.

How that compares to someone playing 300 games is up for debate.

Btw both 1970 & me are both X gen.

Lazy?

Daly is to Golf what Warney was to Cricket. Both extremely talented, competitive as shit and playing in sports where you didn't need true fitness to succeed.

Sometimes that little bit of crazy is what makes players so great. If Dane Swan had Nathan Van Berlo's mind set he would have been shithouse.

300 games of a sport no one else in the world plays.

Difference is Warne is one of THE greatest to play his sport, John Daly is not.

Sort of a comparison, sort of not.

So 1300 professional tennis players coming from a pool of 3 approx 3 billion.

Compared to 968 professional full time AFL footballers coming from a pool of 23 million.

The conversation ends there.

Kane Cornes is a medium sized fish in a swimming pool.
Kyrgios is a medium sized fish in the ocean.

See i reckon it's been fairly good for a guy with 2 weapons. A serve and a forehand, that's about it. In terms of actual tennis talent, old mate Bernie had FAR more strings to his bow.

Hence why Kane is wrong, there's been far more disappointing tennis players in regards to wasted talents come from this country, let alone sportspeople.

You can make a case to say he gets more attention than he deserves, which is probably right, but his bodys been shot for 5 years

I don't think he gets more attention than he deserves, he's a rare breath of fresh air in the the largely stale modern sporting landscape. But reality is there'd be dozens and dozens of players with similar or better records that nobody outside of their country's tennis fans would recognise.

and that’s exactly where this debate probably should have ended.
Comparing team sport to individual is dumb.

I can’t be way off becuase he was 3rd in the norm smith, it’s a fact.
I never even mentioned his AA honors.

Well Daly wasn't exactly a fitness fanatic & never attempted to get as fit as he should have been. Would have won more if he looked after himself.

Warne was fit in his prime.

Granted Daly was the exception to the rule but you did ask...

Depends what you think he deserves and what for. He says what he thinks which is great, it's just he probably doesn't think enough.

Kane on the other hand probably thinks too much, he's rarely on the "positive" side on any argument. He COULD be a great journalist, but I'm not sure he wants to be.

Had a good year in 2022, but it's an outlier. He's said numerous times that he doesn't put in the work or play anywhere near as much tennis as others do. Reckon he also mentioned being out drinking during that 2022 Wimbledon tournament.
Comes down to passion and drive. He's openly said he doesn't love the game, he just happens to be pretty good at it.

I reckon he gets way more attention than he deserves. Over here in Canberra, his best performance in the last few years was getting his lime-green Lambourghini stolen from his mother's driveway and then remotely disabling the engine so the thieves couldn't get away with it. ;)

I will accept he gets more attention than his tennis deserves, but not more than the entire package deserves.
