I keep posting this but I can’t believe they paid fair price on an obvious out of favour salary dump. I wouldn’t have minded Jack, but at his backended wage, if a first is involved, he comes with it, not the other way around.
Luko is a talented player. At the risk of being accused of under rating a player just because he plays at Port, how would we fit him in?

We have Curtin, a similar younger player with massive upside.

Luko ain't pushing Tex/RT/Fog out.

When Tex retires, it is highly doubtful we play that structure anyway. Probably play a smaller player with RT/Fog KPF and Curtin mid/wing/Fwd.

We were not desperate for him, and I hope us showing interest was minimal especially with the trade/salary value.

He is a perfect fit for Port. Bloody shame he got injured.

Im confident we showed enough interest that ensured Port payed overs for Luko both in salary cap and trade.

Quintessential win-win scenario for the Crows.

Port will not get good value for Butters at the trade table because stars like him never get fair value.

Hope he leaves

I just don't see the bonus of moving him on this year. We all saw what happened to Houston, he only wanted to move to the club he wanted to move to, not the one with the best picks and Port were stuck.

I'd be betting they are not going to go through that again

Not even sure it is that.

He was a salary dump by GC. So the minimum salary he is contracted to is probably higher than what we would offer.

Did our club confirm any interest? Or was it just media BS to set up future stories to say we missed out and Port bear us.

WC captain Oscar Allen met with Sam Mitchell and his wife over the weekend. Seems the Mitchell's flew over to Perth.

Barrett seems to think he now needs to give up the captaincy

And then the response from Don Pyke / WC (I guess Don's got some experience here)

Thought you went allowed to talk to players?
Still can't believe we got investigated over that when literally the only evidence they had was senile old Mick Malthouse's sour grapes that Eddie walked because Carlton wouldn't pay him what he was worth.

Hard call, I think he's a local

Maybe, but you don't want a one year captain who could be leaving and that was what Walsh was strong on when it came to the captain of the team. I do get that there isn't a huge amount of options for that position and maybe the other candidates may not have leadership qualities, I don't know.

What it looks like though was to give him that position in an attempt to keep him at the club, a move that isn't looking cool just at the moment

I guess Barrass left last year as well - another Perth local

They're in for a bit pain by the look of things

Allen (as per Barrett's article) could throw the towel in and they'd still have Duggan as a stand alone captain

I always felt they had a bit to go down before they started going up.

Let's say they lose Reid, Allen and then injuries finally bring Gov down. That will hurt big time.

It wont happen but it would be shut the doors for winter scenario

I hope its just noise to push up a new contract

They've already been down since 2022 - this is their 4th consecutive year in the cellar, and there are no signs of them climbing out any time soon.

Adelaide's rebuild has been remarkably smooth & efficient by comparison.

They've staggered their list cuts, which is fine if youre half contending for the 8 but theyve been nowhere near it.

Kelly hasn't really worked out like they thought he might, Yeo can't get on the field and they signed him again. I'm not convinced Baker is the right answer either.

There will be some disappointment if Oscar goes, but won’t be devastation - if it nets us a good compensation draft pick.
We are well stocked for KPF’s, some promising young players ready for more opportunities.

Expecting (well strongly hoping) for a better second half to the season. Will see some more young players given the chance in the coming weeks. Quietly building a reasonable young group 👍

Warner is the big question - would be great but the potential cost is a concern. May be best to leave and keep focusing on the draft.

There will be another big cut this year, but we have been steadily making changes and are starting to get a good young group together.

Baker is a reasonable addition in terms of leadership, been solid thus far. Yeo had a great preaseason before the collision injury. TK is a big watch, if he doesn’t improve his form, he could be on the precipice of being moved on.

I was still under the impression you couldn't talk to players in contract and it had to be through a player manager but Sam Mitchell meeting Oscar Allen in person for coffee should not be allowed, particularly during the season.

I wonder if Brisbane will complain because they are also interested and have taken the correct route of tabling an offer through a player manager. Bit of unfair advantage that Hawthorn can have their senior coach meet him one on one during the season it's not like Fagan would have the opportunity to do that.

I’m not sure on that, I reckon they had no idea he was even considering leaving. Pyke had no idea Allen had even met with Mitchell.
