Dockers are just like the Lions in that they're an incredibly inconsistent team that are amazing when they're playing well and absolutely dreadful when they're off.

Melbourne get away with holding the arm when someone is attempting a mark just did it too Logue. And they never seem to get called on it

If the umpires actually paid attention to their tactics then the Demons wouldn't be anywhere near as good as they are. They're allowed to maul opponents all the time.

Watch May carefully. As a kick is coming in. He instantly grabs an arm/hand or a quick jumper pull; just enough to put the forward off but not enough to trigger a free kick. Annoying as **** he doesn’t get pulled up on it. Ping him every time and he won’t look the superstar anymore.

May hasn't looked very mobile if you don't bomb the ball in he looks all at sea. Good under the high ball strong in a 1 vs 1 but get him on the move looks very vulnerable

He usually plays his direct opponent from behind and is an expert at exploiting the most recent interpretation of the hands in the back rule.

Its shits me no end every time when he goes beyond using his hands to steady himself and uses them to nudge his opponent forward and under the ball.

If he's not doing that he blatantly uses his hands to push his opponent off the ball as he did last week in a contest with Josh Bruce. Something that the dumb campaigners in the commentary box gushed over as a test of strength. Its easy to be strong when you push your opponent when he is in full motion.

Freo are dead ordinary. If we cant set up a finals tilt by claiming them as a soft kill next week, then we have no business being in contention.

Which is why we kicked the ball low and hard and not always direct last game... and it worked a treat. When we reverted to type, then May cleaned up, but we certainly figured out an approach that stuffs up the defenses that rely on one-on-one contests and intercept marking. I'll put money on us using it again against Geelong.

Walking the fine line between disrupting your opponents as much as possible without giving away free kicks is the craft of being a defender. The fact that he gets away with more than most is evidence that he is a master of his craft. He knows exactly how much he can get away with, how to disguise what he is doing etc.
How could that not be a demonstration of his talent? The alternative is that he is favourably treated by the umpires, which is pure nuffy thinking, equivalent to the "free kick Bulldogs" crap.

Salem just pushes people non stop. How does he get away with it?
The more of Melbourne that I watch, the more I'm convinced that its a deliberate tactic akin to our so called handball club of 2016.

Both tactics exist in a grey area of the rules and are reliant on fast movement that goes unseen on the field.

Turns out Bevo does have a few tricks after all

He does...but can he get the team to change tactics mid-game? That's the knock on him.
