It was only in the later years they went with three. And the later years of Channel 9 commentary - after Richie & Bill retired and Tony died - was worse than what Channel 7 do now.

Geoff Lemon's take on it in 2015 was brilliantly written.

That’s a great article, and matches my memories which always helps!
I remember them actively distracting Warne from serious commentary, and the pumping up or mediocre reality tv shows was excruciating.
Perhaps I should just pine for the past, but still appreciate it has been worse.

Didn't he have the record for the worst batting average for a Number 6 in the history of the game? Or at least by an Australian. A bit's being made about how unpopular he was with the public but, fair enough. His record was terrible and he just kept getting picked.

So for him to go from that, to getting back into the Test team and doing what he's done in all formats in the last six-months is extraordinary.
He was among the best BBL and One Day players for the last few years
First class he did have some notable games but others were performing better... He wasn't at the top of the cue when he came back
TBF though, all rounders need a bit a bit more love than others, he did get an extended run, 28 innings to pass 50 twice, that 181 against the poms in Perth showed what he could do

I’m pretty sure it was for an Australian that had played over 10 tests, but I could be wrong. I just remember him being all at sea with feet movement and his decision making and that he looked completely devoid of confidence.

Honestly can’t believe how well he has bounced back, I could’ve understood it in ODI’s or T20’s because of his power hitting but never thought he’d be a force in test cricket ever again.

Home series against Pakistan, among the highest scorers for the series as an established member of the side, writes well as an ending...

Him taking a (somewhat) middle stand on some things isn't a bad thing... the real payoff will be him being a role model to the young indian/pakistani/south asian (general region) kids he is a role model for... we will see that pay off well in a few years
He’s of tremendous character. No doubt.

Smith is batting like a scrappy night watchman edging towards an unlikely 50, but it has been a more important innings than some of his more ascetically pleasing tons.
Love test cricket.

He's getting by on his smarts and tenacity. Really struggled in the first innings too. Second lowest SR for a 50 in his career.

Have to say that this has been a terrific Test Match so far.

The pitch offers something, but not too much, for everyone. Both sides have stuck to their task incredibly well. As soon as one side feels on top, the other strikes back. Pakistan looked a bit ragged as the Marsh/Smith partnership got going but were really good in the last hour. The lead is 241 with the tail exposed. Australia on top but the way this game has gone I wouldn't write Pakistan off.

Also, I've always found Pakistan a hard side to like. Maybe that's me but even in the Wasim, Waqar, Inzy days they were too flaky, too absorbed in internal squabbles and a seriousness that was hard to connect with. And here in Australia they simply haven't been up for the fight. But this team is different. There seems to be a good bond between the teams (the Xmas pressies was a lovely touch) but the competition is hot - without the faux argy-bargy that India and England always bring. From Hasan Ali interacting with the crowd and Shafique's guitar they are here to entertain. And, most importantly, they stick to the task. They might be outgunned away from home, but they seem to want to stay in the game longer.

Having said that, they were bowled out for 89 in the last game and this game isn't done yet, but I'm enjoying this series more than I thought I would.

.
I’ve always loved the inconsistency of Pakistan, never knowing if the cheques cleared and they were all out for 75 or if they had actually been paid by PCB and they made 400
Fair play to them though, played the game well and Ali interaction with the crowd will endear them more

Can't believe its 2023 and we still haven't found a better system than Duckworth Lewis.
Having the WinViz basically saying 95% chance of a win for a team before a ball is bowled is just insane.

Devised by a mathematician and a statistician….

It was just a “by the numbers” thing…

All right, declare half way through second session? Or bat through it and give them the final session to get into the top order?

Fair effort if we're still batting half way through the second session let alone until tea. Carey would have a 100 and at least one of Cummins and Lyon would have a 50. The lead would be easily 450 assuming they went for quick runs before the declaration.

Bat normally until we're bowled out. If Pakistan can bat out 5 sessions on this deck, or if they can score 300+, they deserve the draw/win.

Clear gap, but noise on snicko. Frames and audio not synced.
The non-sync was pretty severe in my opinion. I know that there's a difference in the speed of light verses the speed of sound but I would like to see a genuine scientific analysis of how far the ball would travel at the measured speed of the ball bowled before the stump mic picks up the sound.
