I actually like both, one of them has been advertised on a DVD box set for the Cats last year and available through EZYDVD. Has shown this logo on it since the GF.

That one has been out for ages, don't know what all the secrecy was, but if you want a DVD of last years effort in summary, plus all finals games, here is the link to buy online:

I am old fashioned. I like the shield with the GFC on the navy and white stripes. It says just who the club is: GEELONG. Names of teams that omit the city of origin are for clubs that are probably going to relocate in the near future. I think that it is a shame that this emblem will disappear.

Dunno who she is mate.

What I do know is that I like these logos.

Although I generally hate entities cashing in, I like the fact that the Geelong administration are now organised enough to do it. A bit different to their marketing activities of just a few years ago...

I might already have a bunch of jumpers, polos, fleeces, caps and scarves but, you know what, I'm gonna buy a whole new frickin wardrobe! Because I cannot think of a better mob to give my hard-earned to given the joy they've provided me this year.

Go you mighty Cats!

(Premiers - I still have to pinch myself :p)

Re: Do u like the new logos?

I agree. The term 'Geelong Cats' should never be used. Same goes for the rest of the VFL clubs - 'Hawthorn Hawks', 'St Kilda Saints' - no good.

It is the Geelong Football Club, known as the Cats.

I also agree. I think we are past the days of referring to each club in an official way by it's mascot. The game is too professional now. Only really the West Coast Eagles, Brisbane Lions and Western Bulldogs work with the mascot name.

The logo on the playing jumper is embarrasing. Its weak and doesnt represent the team at all. The sheild was simple and classic, I never heard anyone complain about it before so why change it, if not only to generate more sales in merchandise.

is the only reason clubs change things

have a look at their budget this year and you will see the growth they will forecast due to this little change

might be able to buy another stand on this change

Well IMO both logos are fine. I especially like the top one - the fierce cat looking straight at you with the hoops melting in is really good (I dont know about the wavy forehead though!)
The jumper logo's ok - a bit of tradition is good mentioning the founding date.
Another astute decision by the club to add to all the others this year. I cant wait for the membership package to come out!!

People keep talking about the wavy forehead, I thought it was meant to be like the silhouette of its ears or something like that. Plus the white has to be there so that we can see the shape of its eyes and stuff.

I actually like that second logo a lot. I can't really understand why some people are so attached to the now-former GFC shield logo, as that had only been around since the late 1990s. Anyone who's got the Centenary of the AFL encyclopedia will see that we had a plethora of pretty ordinary Cats in the post-war era as club emblems, right up until the evolution of the 'Classic Cat' (Weg-designed) shield in the 1980s. To me, that's the Cat I always identify with the club, and if the club has any sense they'll maintain a range of merchandise with Classic Cat in place - especially now as he's been immortalised in the Weg premiership poster.

The first logo is kind of take it or leave it, but if the move to these is more or less permanent, then that second logo has a sense of class that reminds me a lot of the logos of European Football Clubs that had their roots about the same time as us.

Think of the pride that ManU, Chelsea and Liverpool fans for example have in wearing clothing with their time-honoured crest and motto on it. If we were to be perhaps the first club in the AFL to head down that path then I think it would be a wonderful aspect of our history to continue down the years.

Probably only needs a Latin motto for effect. Do we have one?

I just hope the ISC logo isnt too big like it is on the rugby tops they already produce. some of them have this diaganal emblazened sketched logo that is way too big. But by the shot we have of the logo, it looks like its the smaller logo in the oval. so if thats the case, Im happy :thumbsu:

I think for most "official" logos there has always been an unofficial one to back it up. Like the one on the right here.

There was another more recent unofficial logo. Can't seem to find a pic of it but if you're ever in Kardinia cafe it's on the wall with all the other team logos. With the 2 new logos I guess the GFC have realised that both will be representing the club in a official capacity.

Can you guys believe WALL HERO posters (www.wallhero.com.au) are not even considering Jimmy Bartel for their next set of players to bring out. You can choose on the site whether you want them to choose Gazza, Chappy or Cam Mooney but it ends there. No selection can be made for the Brownlow Medallist. Disgrace!

So I was going through my brothers old Geelong stuff and I found this badge:

(Sorry for the crap quality, it was taken with my webcam)
It looks kind of like our second logo, I'm not sure if that one was official or not though, was it?

Disgraceful indeed. Still at least they have Gaz, Chaps and Moons. We could have been stuck with King, Gardiner and Playfair instead :D
