That is a terrible look for the NBL. It just makes them look like they handed out punishments to gain notoriety and for advertising.

Out of curiosity, is the 'full board' Adelaide can appeal to run by the NBL or BA? If it's the NBL, there's little point in complaining, because you'd just be complaining to Melbourne about Melbourne.

If it's BA, they should 100% appeal and really question the motivation behind the sanction.
What do you think Harrell and Davis' penalties should've been?

Given the NBL's motivation behind the penalties, they should be reduced to fines.

If the NBL wasn't using the suspensions to promote the game, the penalties would be fair enough - just cop them and move on.

You can't suspend players, then use the incident to promote the league

One spectator has received a lifetime ban, and one spectator has received a 10-year ban, from all NBL games in all venues.

On the surface that's massive but John Cain Arena is hardly going to have massive photos of them strewn around the stadium to not let them in. If they want to buy a GA ticket, make up a name, whatever, they will tap their phone and walk straight through whenever they want.

It's really just a season ticket they're effectively banned from, again they can just grab a mate's.

Going by what I've heard I doubt they've ever paid for a ticket anyways.

Outside of banning them from attending games what other punishment can the league truly hand down to fans?

So does that change the tune for all the whining about how only the Adelaide players got penalties and nothing for the fans???
Not really

The only known fan getting a punishment was the one who got 10 years. I've seen his name reported. The lifetime ban person hasn't been identified and the NBL don't know who he is. In that case, whoever's seats he was sitting in should get his ban. I understand there were 4 of them. Ban all 4 of them. This isn't some human rights injustice, this is 3 people refusing to cooperate to identify the 4th, so **** them all.

Where are the improvements to seating arrangements so they don't happen again? What happens next time the 36ers play in Melbourne? What are Melb Utd and John Cain Arena going to do differently?

And what of the racial and homophobic abuse? Melb Utd can put out a statement saying that none of it has been corroborated but since this is an investigation that couldn't produce a name sitting in a VIP seat, I call bullshit on that. On the balance of probabilities, it happened and that should have been enough. But the NBL would have wanted to steer very wide away from that outcome.
