I hope this forum hasnt gone dead. I reckon the bushies blokes are a fascinating topic (positively speaking). Especially this time of year. Great to see Macca and Dawson get drafted, but I must say the bushies as a whole got absolutely arseholed in the National Draft. How they only got two blokes over the line compared to the Nights 6 or 7 is a disgrace. Anyway, bit of frustration vented.
I think the bushies boys will be big players in the rookie draft as their is 7 or 8 that genuinly deserve a chance at the top level. What does everyone think ? I reckon blokes like:
Hockey, Garland, Martinello, Normington (altho I hear he has a shit attitude), Macintyre (same attitude as Normington), Terlich, Thompson, Walker, Warnett, Boyle, Hebbard, Saker and Morgan are all a chance at possible rookie list.
I know Ive listed alot but that is reflective of how strong the bushies were this year, shame they couldnt show it on GF day, but a great effort overall

he will hopefully get drafted next year.. too young this year.. will be a dominant rover in the TAC in 08

i thought timmy mcintyer was gonna get drafted?? wat was his under 18 championships like?

From what Ive seen Tim can be very good but at the same time he can drift out of games easily. His U18 carnival was ok without being spectacluar. Proabably a strong chance to get rookied, will be an even stronger chance if he fine tunes his attitude a bit. Murray Bushranger followers lets get this forum cranking. Lets do a disection of who and why bushies players will gett rookied, ill start it off with a few:
Ash Hockey- reliable mid-feilder of good size, needs to add an x-factor to his game though if he wants to make it at the top level
Luke Garland- huge motor, great effort to play CHF this year as he's not overly tall, great tackler. Needs to be able to kick goals 45-50m out, but pretty accurate from 35-40m none-the-less.
Hebbard- Deserves a chance doesnt he ? Would be a great GV if he didnt
Normington- Pretty clean, knows how to find the pill, needs to add more 1%er's to his game as at times is a bit of a receiver.
Happy to hear others thoughts on these blokes and any other player as I dont know all players that well so looking forward to hearing opinons of players that others might know better. :thumbsu:

Yeah a bit surprising they only got the 2 draftees. I guess they had four go to draft camp, and then a batch to screening so you mightve expected them to get an extra one or two selected.

In saying that, the players who missed out have some terrific qualities, but they also seem to have one horribly bad one. Which generally means they're rookie material. Running into brick walls, poor kicking, a bit too much self confidence or a lack of pace needed for AFL footy are traits most of those guys seem to have one of.

Of the list left over, I reckon they might have four taken as rookies.

I would suggest Hockey & Normington. Maybe Walker,Boyle, Saker & Hebbard.

None of the rest have shown the consistency , improvement or ability to be AFL footballers- Garland, McIntyre, Terlich, Thompson, Warnett and Morgan

Martinello- bottom age- but wouldn;t have him as draftable next year- Watch Tom Rockliff though- he's got awesome footy sense & ability

Hopefully Phil Bunn can explain the old concept of 'we have, they have it or it's in dispute' cos Rockliff thinks it is 'we have it, not much going on now, not much happening here either' unfortunately.
Good player when his team is in possession, liability when needing to work hard to get it back.

Who will be their key players next year? Klemke, Wright, Browne, Rockliff and Martinello seem to be the main five?

I think three of the Vic Country U16s from this year will be boarding in Melbourne and playing APS footy, and possibly Sandringham Dragons instead of Murray. That hurts.

They got 10 games + this year into Bryce, Daniels, Birthisel, Barolli. A few of them show some promise. But the rest of their 1990s only seemed to play one or two games.

Have they started pre-season? What do some of you locals think about their prospects in 2008 having seen a bit of the talent coming through GVFL and OMFL?

Which three would they be?

The three most promising I can think of from the 16's are Sidebottom, Lowden and Ziebell. Any of those 3 would be a big loss for them, do you know if any of these are the three that will be boarding?

Ziebell already goes to Caulfield, Lowden I think is joining him there and I think Pianto is the other one heading to the city but someone else might be able to confirm those.

Yes Ziebell at Caulfield Grammar and in year 12 in 2008 and can play TAC in 2009.

Lowden and Pianto will be at Caulfied Grammar and both will be in year 11 in 2008.

Lowden will be at Sandy (when APS commitments allow), not sure what Pianto's TAC intentions are.

Sidebottom will be in year 12 in 2008 and probably would not have taken a scholarship if offered as final year at school in Melb. would have been too disruptive. Being AIS the APS schools would have certainly thought about it. Probably a few kicking themselves for not offering something last year.

Farren Preist from Benalla and Caleb Tiller from Thornton were U16 Vic Country reps who should go well in 2008.

Ziebell has already said he'd play Bushrangers when available.Another guy who was outstanding at U15s and is at Caulfiel Grammar is Taylor Duryea from Corowa.Didn't make himself availble to NSW U16s due to the travelling involved.

pianto has said he will play bushies when availiable and has been training and also jamie sheehan has also been training but not sure what he will be doing... lowden hasnt trained yet?

Its seems that there is some star quality coming through for the 08' season. Keeping in mind that many could be scholarshiped elsewhere, how good can the bushies be next season also under the guidence of the bunn ? At the other end of the scale who do people think the two 19 year old's should be retained for next season ?

Don't worry about Phil Bunn, he will be excellent.

He doesn't like mobiles phones tho, boys u have been warned!:)

The TAC is all about development, and the 2 x U19 positions should be for players who were unlucky or unavailable due to reasons beyond their control, eg injury, student exchange etc or are late developers, or play a different role so recruiters can look at them from a different perspective.

Saker and Habbard were great for the Bushies this year and hope they get RD'd in 2007.

I dont think the bushies will be much of a force this year . Thier stocks look pretty slim for key players at the moment . A lot of bottom age kids . Dont get me wrong there talented but there are no keys like Mcevoy simpson, etc Paticually at the Albury end . A kid called Brown is the biggest on the list at 196cm. Sidebottom is probably the class player of the lot and he is small Ziebell wont play much at all with school and rep
pianto's off to school as is lowden so not much left. The top agers at albury are almost non existant does anyone know who they are and how many will play ?
I believe Tiller is one who will make a huge impact this year having a constant run in the side he is capable of playing CHF or CHB and has been harshly done by in the rep stuff to date he's got a lot of skills

i mean that Caleb tiller wasnt given much game time to prove himself . The short time he got i thought he did very well . in the u16's carnival in qld he didnt play much at all . In the metro game he came on and kicked a nice goal at a very handy time in the game . He's got really good skills and a good head on his shoulders. They percieve him as a bit soft but i think you will find he just lacks a bit of confidence in himself . As soon as he gets a bit of arrogance and confidence you will see the real player come out . If he is given a good run and strings a few games together he will be terriffic.
