This is actually terrible news for Victorians. We desperately need a change of Government but the opposition might be the most inept group of people in the country.
You've not seen the SA Liberal Party. Their last leader resigned facing drug trafficking charges and they've lost 2 Liberal seats in by-elections in the past year. Factional infighting has made them unelectable in all but 4 of the past 22 years.

The bar is pretty low.

IMO throwing out a long entrenched government is nearly always good for accountability and refreshing of perspectives and policies. But not if the alternative has nothing to offer and is focussed entirely on itself.

As an MP. He's never been a Minister.

His main job as opposition spokesperson for a particular portfolio is to ask questions of the real Ministers in Parliament. Questions nearly always prepared by someone else, like one of his staffers based on insider leaks from disgruntled public servants or former mates in VicPol.

This is NOT the equivalent of having a 'criminal/law reform background'.

F-me - it's like saying Brad Boswell, Shadow Treasurer has an international finance background'. Whereas the main achievement he lists in his Parliamentary notes is that he was 'a Cub and then Scout with the 9th Sandringham Scouts and 2nd Beaumaris Sea Scouts.'

No worries, considering it’s such a huge deal using the word “background”, I’ll repost it for you:

Has been a shadow minister in criminal / reform. Also owned a small business (BAKERS DELIGHT). Be interesting to see how he goes.

Hope this makes you feel better now.

You are nitpicking based on the word “background”. Which can mean many different things. In this situation, I am very clearly not using it to describe his employment history.

Seriously, what is your problem?
How could that post POSSIBLY rub you the wrong way?

someone should ask prayer room boy for comment

It’s happened twice in Victoria since 1992. Kennett in for the hapless and unmitigated disastrous Cain / Kirner governments, and Ted Bailiieu in for Brumby.
One sold off anything that wasn't nailed down and didn't invest the proceeds into infrastructure improvements. The other actually thought East-West Link was a good idea, which is a fantastic litmus test to see who should never be trusted with decision-making.

He's an ex cop and ex Bakery owner.

That makes him a normal person, unlike 80% of politicians who worked in politics (politics proper or broader political world- advocacy, think tanks etc), unions or high-end law firms before being elected.
