The other footy thing I did back in Oz was buy some memberships...Port Power, Port Magpies and the Athelstone Raggies.
I want to float an idea...particularly re the Raggies.
My Athelstone membership cost $21. It gets me into games (which are free anyway !!)...a newsletter and 10 cents of all drinks at the bar...10% off meals. I would need to drink 210 beers to get my money back, and I am in Australia for about 2 days a year which is 105 beers a day !!!
BUT THAT IS NOT THE POINT !!!
For $21 I made a significant difference to a local footy club. What I propose is that when we renew our AFL membership it contains a section where we can pay $10 or $20 and nominate a "local" club for it to go to. I for one have always had good intentions of joining local clubs but never quite get around to it. If all I had to do was tick a box on my AFL membership renewal then I would do it straight away...with the cost of AFL memberships not many people would notice an additional $10 or $20 anyway and it would help ensure the survival of local clubs and comps.
What do you reakon ?
What non AFL clubs are people here members of ?
