For mine, the MSD is the opportunity to get ahead of the draft to add a necessary piece to our list. With viable Academy and father son prospects available in the next draft, it will be even more relevant.

If TDK seems to be moving, we look at a ruck. Happy taking Flynn Riley from within, who is a huge upgrade on Mirkov as a developing ruck in the twos. The couple of “looks” we got show him to be quite rounded, being effective at stoppage as well as contributing around the ground. (A bit depends on the progress of O’Keeffe too). Riley could be a good investment regardless, with Pitto a chance to move to greener pastures should TDK commit long term.

The other area that could do with an upgrade is a half back/wing running distributor, which brings Walshy’s boy Evans in to the discussion. Added attraction being an Echuca boy with Cody to join next year.

Face value suggests McMahon should be in the mix, however, we had a big look during pre season. Some players don’t make that step from prominent VFL player to viable AFL player. The gap between McMahon and Lemmey has closed considerably this season, so I am not convinced he is an upgrade. Young is a worthy back up at either end and in the ruck, so I do not see a need. Pre season I was in favour of McMahon as Lemmey was in the questionable category and a progression was required. I am much more hopeful on Lemmey now.

I am sure there are other hidden gems out there, and happy to see what could be unearthed.

There's a Young guns vs Vic metro/Vic Country 18s series starting this weekend.

A few MSD candidates like Tom Evans, Floyd Burmeister, Zac Walker playing for the Young Guns to keep an eye on.

Metro plays this Saturday, Country next Sunday.

Some names like Cooper Lord, Geordie Payne and Tom Hanily + more played in the series last year for YGs so clearly one to keep an eye on in relation to MSD prospects.

Personally I'm not a huge fan of taking KPP in the MSD, feel like it rarely comes off and most of the highly athletic types like Burmeister are either as dumb as dogs*** with their footy IQ or can't get their hands on the ball enough.

Am keen to see McCartin play though, he's been doing well all year in the VFL.

I like McCarthy and Raso at the Tigs as options, they've had a fantastic VFL program for a number of years too which is always a bonus. I rate Austins ability to find a diamond in the rough in the MSD so I'm keen to see where he goes with it.

Interesting that we were linked to McCartin when he was playing at Lorne under Ed Curnow, wish we'd taken the punt before he'd had the exposure at VFL level.

I think we are stocked up there with Cinc, Boyd and Cow available in the next week or so plus Newman possibly back mid year.

Which tall have we lost? Kemp played as a hybrid 3rd marking option but barely a genuine KPP option. And more importantly how many good talls have ever been picked up in the MSD?

Yep, that was always the plan (not sure why our injury report has him listed as “season” vs reassessment).

This is where I think Krueger is worth a look if our season remains alive

I've always been a huge fan of Ramshaw, loves what he delivers for our midfield in the VFL.

I wouldn't be upset in the slightest if we took him, but tend to think we'll be casting the net wider. Of course if we end up drafting big Flynn, we can pretty much read the writing on the wall.

I can’t remember exactly, I think he perhaps didn’t nominate by a certain cut off date?

It’s frustrating that TDK signing or not, has a big impact on our possible choice. I really hope his future is sorted by then.

I know we have lots of gaps and areas of need to fill but more than anything I just want to find two AFL quality players.

A few late developers or posters who didn’t take footy seriously enough in the U18s or whatever,,just find me a Peatling, Durham, Tim Kelly
