THE AFL has opted against appealing the Tribunal's decision in the Brayden Maynard case, meaning the Collingwood defender is in the clear to play in the Magpies' preliminary final.

The AFL, having brought the charge against Maynard, said on Wednesday that it would not challenge the Tribunal's ruling, but would comment further later in the day.

"The AFL has confirmed that after careful consideration and review of the Tribunal's decision and reasons following last night's hearing into the incident involving Collingwood's Brayden Maynard and Melbourne's Angus Brayshaw, the AFL has decided not to appeal the Tribunal's decision," a statement read.

"Per the Tribunal Guidelines the AFL had to make this decision by 12:00pm AEST today.

"The AFL will release a further statement later today."
Finally some sanity 👍

If Maynard gets off there will more kids told to play soccer by their parents imo.

Yep, people sliding into your ankles and smashing the ball with your head makes it a way safer game.

Not to mention possibly being assaulted by opposition supporters mid game.

With no pathway because there is dick all money involved.

Hopefully the kids are independent enough to form their own opinions on interests and activities.

That’s basically what Maynard’s counsel is basing this on, Brayshaw moving. It’s ******* disgusting. The AFL should throw it out. Are they serious about head contact and concussions or Brayshaw moving about 8 inches to his right?
At most I think 8 inches watching the vid as opposed to stills. He does obviously move from the kicking action I think slightly and probably centired him but though head contact was always coming even on with Brawshaw on a perfectly straight line

Did the biomechanics expert give any evidence about the movements of the kicker post kicking the ball, and that Brayshaw’s movements went against the norm? Or are they just eating up he submissions as evidence?

So initially I thought he lined him up but the defence is spot on, Brayshaw moves into his path. IMO if he didn’t move 4 weeks, but because he did nothing. Intentional v accidental

The difference is that all other acts where players are suspended they make a decision that contributes to injury. You have to be able to attempt to smother and it would be unreasonable to conclude he attempted to hit Brayshaw when Brayshaw moves a good 30-50cm into his path.

The defending BRM BRM car has a responsibility and duty of care for the approaching BRM BRM car professor even if that car is in mid-air and made an aggressive subconscious conscious decision based on his car's performance compared to the oncoming car.

End result is still a car wreck you have some responsibility to pay for

A quick showing of what Marcelo did to that MLS (I think) players leg will get them back on path

Roby noted that Brayshaw got in the way and it was his fault that he got hit.
Apparently Brayshaw was playing for the free kick.
Isn’t this right Roby??
Roby is definitely on a mission in this discussion.

He's not blaming Brayshaw for moving. He's explaining why it wasn't inevitable that Bruzzy launching like that was going to result in that collision.

I'm not sure how you can look at the footage from behind Maynard and say that with a straight face.

Brayshaw turning his head is his split second reaction to brace for a shoulder about to collide with his face at speed.

The collision was happening. Maynard wasn't in control of his body, which makes his action careless, and the result was a potentially career ending bump to the head.

Coming from a basketball background where “close outs” happen all the time. Maynard has played basketball at a high level and I think that he had two intentions, one to smooth and the other to clear up Brayshaw.

Maynard could have jump off one leg, controlled his movement more up and across.
