I just watched epsiode 4 and hardwick getting emotional about playing for the people back home etc (what a laod of rubbish, the whole premise of the season is to stop the code going bankrupt)

But it didnt stop me thinking he was getting upset because it may mean his wife and kids might have to fly up and he cant be getting the roots off the new squeeze

I'm biased but I think Buckley should be #1 on their hitlist for 2021 if they plan on going again. Coach without a flag, last year of contract, high list turnover (plenty of young players) and the recovery from a controversial off-season to top it off.
If they planned on going again, you'd expect they would already be in place.

I'm only up to ep 3 or 4 but loving it so far - one thing I have noticed is Cogs starts off as a terrible captain but as it goes on he becomes more and more confident and the chat he has with Leon where he basically says pull your head in is terrific viewing. Then there's the speech about coming from behind to win it against Essendon which was stirring. Looking forward to the episode when he gets dropped. I love the raw emotion of it all.

Perhaps my favourite thing is every time Brendan Gale is on screen - anything to do with Covid or the season he looks physically nauseous and then when he announces it to the group, he looks so calm and composed. No wonder that club is kicking goals on and off the field with the leadership they have there - him Dimma and Peggy are three completely different personalities but jeez they blend well together.

Hope to see some Saints on there in following seasons if it goes again - would have been cool to go behind the scenes with Ratts as all the videos I've seen of him at training and stuff with the boys have been terrific.

Did anyone else spot that in the Lions v Tigers prelim, after Daniel Rich's first goal, they edited the commentary? On the night, BT f-cked up the commentary and said "What a great start for Richmond... err, the Lions and Rich." The doco either edited that out or had him re-record it.

Interesting to see what these guys are really like. I'd like to hang out with Eddie Betts, he's pretty funny. Rory Sloane is just a natural leader, compare the way he goes about it to Coniglio. Nic Nat sleeps on the floor every night. I still don't think Stewart Dew looks like an AFL coach but I'd much rather play for him than Leon Cameron.

Felt a bit sorry for Cogs, but then again he's been brilliant at football for ever and looks like a male model so hard to feel too sorry for him. He needs some public speaking classes in the off-season.

I actually think this happened a bit throughout the series. A lot of the commentary felt like it was added later and not the actual live TV commentary. It sounded stilted and more like what you hear on EA sport games.

8pm on 7:

The preview of the biggest games in this season and behind the scenes footage with the coaches and players at last year's thrilling Grand Final.

there MAY be more footage of Geelong than what appeared in the doco, who knows.
Best bit so far.

3 episodes in...finding it all a bit Meh to be honest.

Eddie Betts the one with personality and kind of gives it some value. Love him.

Sloane, NicNat and even Coniglio all seem like really good people, but they’re boring.

And I don’t really get the Peggy O’Neal and Gale focus with Richmond. Adds nothing.

Not exactly hating many of the individuals, but just seems like it would be better just following one club around, like Year Of The Dogs.

I really liked ‘The Test’ so was keen for this but not impressed.

Each to their own I guess.

Yep, I'm with you.

I'm interested just from the technical behind the scenes type stuff, but the people are utterly boring.

Probably doesn't help if you've watched a lot of Hard Knocks as a comparison.

Some of the big speeches are cringe and there's very little in the way of personality.

What were you expecting?

Thought Nic nat was quite funny, but remember its a doco, not a sitcom.

Yeah Dew came across really well. Hardwick too, bloody hell the Tigers are so confident and disciplined, no surprise there of course.

I found the season riveting, so much stuff I’d never seen before off field but...it was very boring at times too. If I didn’t know the sport it would’ve been a real struggle to get through.

Yea I'd say only the true sports nuts overseas will get through it all.

I don't mind the Richmond front office focus. If it wasn't for COVID being a topic then it would be very boring because otherwise everything is going well for Richmond. Would prefer a Sunderland til I die type of series where there is still a focus on admin, but it's all gone to shit.

Naive question here but can someone explain the different roles the CEO and President play at a footy club?

Peggy O'Neal seemed like she did sweet f**K all compared to Gale
not 100% sure but I think Peggy is a 'volunteer' (advisor) she doesn't get paid as an RFC employee ?

(Aside: there's no hint of a 2nd season so far).

The one thing I’d change about the whole thing is to keep the timeline closer to the actual timeline. I can see why they’ve stuck with certain teams for weeks at a time to tell their story better, but you miss the league timeline a bit and I think that’s extra important in a year like 2020 with so many events covering several teams. It would be better if each episode covered a block of games across the league (or close enough to it).

My reading is same as last year season got better as the crowds came back round 8
Thoughts Adelaide. Sloane a good leader of men but Nick's negative demeanour as the losses piled up rubbed off.
Richmond - coach is very direct and combative (you need that to a degree) bit Gale and O Neil run the joint like clockwork. Reels in Hardwick to a degree and stops him going nuts
Carlton Beats a good bloke and family man. Loved the shot on him in the hub vs back home Teague and him returning looked to be finding their feet and covid stuffed their rythym as a club a bit
Giants cog grew into the roll. Giants seemed a bit directionless. Lacked a strategy how to respond. The **** them all before Richmond game was great and a good way of dealing with the whole hf replay thing
Gold Coast and WCe seem well run awesome fun clubs to play at.
Thought it was a bit galling carrying on about sacrifice. No doubt it was hard and not what they signed for but most were in 5 star resorts where alternative was curfew and 1 hour outside a day

Only 2 episodes in, but FMD is Coniglio uninspiring. Incredibly wooden in front of a camera, or in front of anyone for that matter. Good player though.
