LDU is a good hard at it mid , but i don’t see him as a absolute star type player , I can understand north over paying a bit to keep him but for other clubs to be offering well over a million a season is not overly smart
A good hard at it mid, well now Tasmanian saint that is the most interesting statement about LDU I think I've ever heard, but you know what, everyone is allowed their say, no matter who it is, but a few things to keep in mind. Luke really came of age last year, if you didn't watch the whole games and just looked at the stats, or watched the odd game and a few highlights the process of forming a viable opinion isn't going to work out, it just isn't.

His running has improved to a point where it had to, his pre-season last year was exceptional, shaving a lot off his PB, and it showed by winning his first Best & Fairest, and it was certainly no surprise that he won, in fact it was a lay down moral! Now just in case one might be thinking, well down at North who else is there? That very simple question would be answered with the response of, well Tristan Xerri should have made the All Australian team and Harry Sheezel had another great year so there is just two players off the top of my head and yet Luke was never in any real danger of not winning, such was his year!

I also would like to point out in a lot of games he was scragged, held onto and almost cuddled to death by opposition clubs, now why do you think that is, because only the guns get that sought of treatment because they know if they don't do something he will inflict a lot of hurt factor. He's now used to it, never complains, the really top players all go through the same thing so the lesson here is, if you really want to be that good you better learn how to deal with it.

One last thing I would like to point out is, before the 2017 National Draft I rated Luke not only the best player in that draft but that if he continued to improve that one day he would become the best midfielder in the AFL and that we needed a hell of a lot of luck to get him because we had pick 4 and he certainly wasn't going to not go in the top 3 but Brisbane went for the hype on Cam Rayner and Fremantle went Andrew Brayshaw and even Carlton could have got him but they went Paddy Dow, so a heap of luck unbelievably went our way, and you guessed it we picked him.

We could not believe he didn't go 1, 2 was even a bigger surprise and wait for it, the Blues picking Paddy over Luke was I must say quite interesting to say the least and one must remember that Paddy had played very well that year but he did have his limitations but I guess Carlton overlooked them to take him but I assure you in no universe was Paddy a better prospect than Luke, in fact I had him a bit further down the order but I'm not a AFL recruiter, that's the difference, their professionals.

Also you point out that other clubs offering well over a million dollars a season is not overly smart, but let me put it this way, what if all these clubs were that smart, what if they know how good LDU is and how much better he is going to become, every club would love that sought of player and that is why they are offering that much coin, there not stupid, 2025 AFL football is big business, everyone wants to get to the top, not just for the flag but corporal businesses and sponsors and so on, it all adds up. I'm not trying to change your mind, I know I can't do that, so while I don't agree with it, I respect your opinion and we'll see how it plays out. ;)

I'd let him go because I think they've got at least 3 more gifted players (and Sheezel is already better) to be the main guys in the middle and you can't be paying the 4th or 5th banana $1m+.

I get you don't want to lose mature players when trying to rise, but I think this is one example that might work overall.

Straight up I don’t want LDU to leave

BUT

Clarko was right. It’s not the end of the world if he does.

Seeing Kerch work in a phone box, evade 3 players and burst out of stoppage reminded me that he’s not just “outside”

And even Dursma getting 2 big hits but fighting on and beating LDU at clearance on several occasions.

That’s not to mention the continued trajectory of Powell who is quicker and fitter.

Again, I don’t want another top 5 pick inleu of LDU but “it’s not the end of the world”

And he’s only going to leave if we are devoid of wins again. And that probably means we are still miles off it anyway.

I disagree - his 2nd half of 2024 was up there with the best in the game (18 brownlow votes from round 14) and was a deserving winner of our B&F.

Sheezel and LDU are clearly our 2 best mids. We have midfield depth but losing LDU is losing real quality.

For the time being.....

McKercher will be better in time, I have no doubt about that.

Powell has looked better than Luke in every single match sim I've watched this pre-season.

I don't think there's going to be anything clearly about it by the end of the season, in not long it could purely be age and experience as the gap.

The sun will come up in the morning and it's in a position of extreme depth.

We got over JHF and he's arguably going to be one of the best in the comp for the next 10 years. He will be viewed as a bigger loss than LDU by neutrals, im sure of it.

Of course I want to keep him, but if he walks, he walks, no use crying over spilt milk. It would be a crazy time to leave the club after the years he's put in, I hope he's a scholar of Deledio or Griffens careers.

How confident are you off mckercher signing long term ? his obviously going to get a absolute monster offer from the Tasmanian team over coming seasons hopefully north can get him signed before to much longer!

Very. I'm sure that both the new team and the AFL will throw crazy money at him, but he'll get a big deal staying too. I imagine we'll offer him a contract that takes him through to free agency, when he'll get even crazier money. And other than the money, how many cashed-up 20-year-olds from Launceston choose to move from Melbourne to Hobart? I think the Tassie team will have more success targeting older players who are starting families and do a lifestyle sell like Geelong do.

Yeah he is gone.

Hawks and Pies seem the best fits can't see him going to Saints Essendon etc

It's not ideal, Nth have a stack of talent coming through, I wouldn't be to concerned if I'm a Nth supporter.

While the outcome admittedly exists within a quantum environment, the probability of LDU leaving even at this stage is disappointing for vested interests

With how North started the season against an undermanned Dogs and the fixture of hard games they have over the first 2 months, this is a massive watch now.

Seeing as they beat us by 96 points 2 games ago it’s heading in the right direction. That might be all LDU needs.
