While an absolute gun and a great fit for us Darcy is a pipe dream. The odds he leaves freo are pretty long, especially while under contract, and the chances he comes here if he did and not back to vic and the teams that would have been in his ear for years are even longer.

Freo would want he world for him, and while I think Darcy is one of the most influential players in the league and one of my favourites, I would be massively nervous about giving a long term contract to a 110kg ruckman due to concerns around longevity.

They super overpaid for Jackson. They paid for Jackson what we kinda paid for the Hornet. Crazy.

But I don't see Darcy leaving or coming to Ports. I'd love it but there are no real whispers or moving parts.
Tend to agree. They "overpaid" as Jackson is so young and they're betting on his ceiling being super high.

You'd still think Freo would be throwing the bank at Darcy to keep him though.

The price for Darcy would be something like Georgiades + F1
im paying that, i cant recall the last time we had a decent ruckman, a dominant ruckman.. maybe ryder for a year but i reckon its zip since brogan retired. thats a bloody long time with bog average blokes leading our ruck

imagine adding him to our midfield, we would have the best on ball brigade in the afl..we would then be a serious chance to win a premiership..

It’s a big price. But I’d give it some serious thought.

Darcy is a gun and will only be 25.

I disagree.

Gave games to Marshall when he was average?

No we didn’t.

At no point have we ever been giving games to Marshall where there was better options available.

If not him, we would have just been giving more games to small players we’ve delisted.

If anything he could and should have had more games under his belt sooner.

As for key defenders how on earth can you not think we’ve ****ed that up?

We’ve sunk so many games into Jonas when he’s cooked and been a total liability, but refuse to blood pasini in the same era we’ve willingly pumped games into guys like Burgoyne mcintee and mead.
Nah we play Trengove over Marshall in that eagles final we win

Ah yes the Trengove who averaged 3 marks and less than a goal a game that year. He would've been the difference.

McGovern was BOG with 15 marks, Mackenzie and hurn equal 2nd for marks with 8. Marshall literally Teakled it but Port lost.

Its also a draw? You're talking about a draw its fine margins. Its completely mute debating it now but more balls get to ground with Trengove instead of Marshall out there

Lol what? Was that the game we brought an underdone and out of form impey in after dropping Trengove and he was absolute shithouse?

We went into that game with only 2 kfs, one of which was very young, and a bunch of smalls like Neade gray and impey and west coasts backs took a billion intercept marks while paying zero attention to our fleet of smalls?

Marshall didn’t cost us shit.

Hinkleys love of smalls and disregard for structure hurt us.

We were calling for Trengove to be named as well as Todd, not instead.

Oh, egads! My Elimination Final is ruined! But what if I were to play Trengove and deploy him as a tagger? [chuckles] Delightfully devilish, Kenny.

Yeah, we dropped a kf (don’t recall if it was going into the game or just before that) against a known very tall intercept marking side and picked a small and went in with a fleet of smalls (who we then traded / delisted very soon after lol) and as many of us were saying would happen… we got destroyed by the tall intercept marking defenders that paid zero attention to the smalls

Should we be targeting a second in line ruck?

Henry Smith at the Lions? Or Darcy Fort as a ready made option?

Nick Byran at the Dons? Toby Conway and Shannon Neale both at the Cats?

We have 3 below average rucks and one developing ruck on our list now. I think if we are targeting a ruckman they need to be better then what we have.

Point that I alluded to earlier, is the best, ready to go rucks, cost a lot and are unlikely to move clubs. Why would they? Getting paid well to be the first line ruck. Besides we don’t have heaps to work a trade, although if Darcy or similar nominated us I’m sure we would make it work.

The second in line may be ready to play, may be on low to average money and be happy to move for more opportunities. So Henry Smith, Toby Conway, Nick Bryan etc will probably be ready to play next year and could be tempted with the opportunity to be starting ruck and on better money.

I think Henry Smith is more of a forward who can ruck than an actual ruck, like a poor man's Rory Lobb. Darcy Fort (for immediate impact) or Kalin Lane (for long term upside) are the Brisbane rucks we'd target if we were going to target a Brisbane ruck. Both would have a more prominent role here than they get at Brisbane.

We are more likely to trade for Billy Frampton than bring Darcy Fort in. It isn't happening.

That said I thought Fort would have been a good pick up when he was at Centrals.

We think we are desperate for a Ruck that is already mature then they have to offer more than Hayes or Teakle or even Lycett.

Good luck with that because they do not exist.

We will draft a couple to develop and go with what we have.

What’s Josh Carr’s relationship like with Sean Darcy - get it done :)

Would pay Georgiades, and a late first however we have to get that.

Bergman is going to be a gun. Pay the man.

Here's an interesting one. NicNat?

He'd be wasting what's left of his career continuing on at West Coast. He's never won a premiership and might be able to be convinced to move for one last shot at one. FWIW Port have a history of Fijian players on the list with Alipate Carlile and David Rodan. Given the injury risk he'd have to come cheap, but if he did, I'd infinitely rather have him on the list than Lycett.

Spicer from North for some small forward depth? Probably a DFA or late pick trade. Seems to have some pace and agility. Wonder what he could do at a club that gets forward fifty entries?
He definitely impressed me out there but with our ruck and KPD deficiencies I wouldn't be spending even one second talking to small forwards this season.

Part of the reason we missed Rat last year is we only turned our focus to him at the last minute. It was the right thing to do then, but this year we must solve these problems.

Turns 34 early next season and is persistently injured. So doesn't seem like the type of play our list management would even think about.

But presumably he's a free agent, so if he could wind back the clock and get on the park for 1 last season (and we also sort out a KPD to be a more serious flag contender)...
